This website's always been known for its unique ability to get rid of people who just don't 'fit' with the rest of the group by flaming the holy shit out of them to the point of making them feel terrible and they never come back. Like that one clock who got his dad online because we made fun of him and then we burned his father so bad that he ran away crying.
Why the hell then do I see posts like:
QuoteYou are mistaken.
In reality, it is my tendency to share my opinion regardless of the consequences or what other people think.

QuoteFunny coincidence, earlier on today I was wondering how a battle between Jesus and vampires would turn out. I think Jesus' blood would be fatal to them, since his body is what, 60% composed of holy water?
Quotenot THE chuck norris!??!
QuoteFun fact, did you know John Holmes could never get all the way hard? Yeah it was big, but it was always kind of big and soft. One chick described it as being like having sex with a luffa. THANKS WIKIPEDIA!
Quotewoah that is so amazing I waited all the way for it to end untill I posted this
It is time you rectify the situation.

I will punch my monitor at every single bad post that I see.
Like this one I just made.
all of those posts are better than any of the ones ive seen from you

hey guys i found a pretty terrible thread lets get rid of this guy

you know who is a horrible poster? Catclock, let's flame that guy instead.

Yes, and so far complaining hasn't done anything because people won't reach a consensus, so please, shut up everyone. This matter is to be decided by staff only(sadly), and apparently they have no plans in changing things, so what's the point?
Flaming people got old.
Quote from: PirateClock;1598349you know who is a horrible poster? Catclock, let's flame that guy instead.
Change I can fucking believe in :salute:
1) Silly posts have their own charm. Its obvious when someone is being silly and when someone is just being an idiot.
2) This is one of those silly topics that shouldn't have been taken seriously.
Everything that is posted on this forum unless in a specifically serious section needs to be made in half-jokingly good humor. In the past, this meant funny images to associate how someone felt about the thread/post/reply. But sadly, the forum just turned into a giant ebaum's world depository. So now its only acceptable if you make something like this on your own. Photoshop/MS-PAint will always be welcome. My point in all this was to show you that you all need to be more elitist in your approach to posts, and at the same time less serious. Suggesting more regulation (rules) over self-regulation (lolnoobgtfo) was exactly the reason half the CC shifted to WTFnoob years ago. Redemption had the wrong idea, and I'm glad his system is gone. What I'm not satisfied with, is that we lack the air of superiority that we so rightfully deserve.
Welcome to the Clockcrew, We run Newgrounds.
Corpsegrinder, pull your head out of your ass.
Everyone else, your opinions meant so little to me that I had to get someone else to type out this part.
Quote from: Ribs;1598358Actually this is the suggestion forum and it's quite alright for people to suggest stuff here.
And this attitude of "don't say anything the staff decides everything and doesn't care about what anyone else thinks" is a load of crap. If someone has a viable suggestion for how to fix something don't shoot it down before it's even considered.
I dunno, I like the idea of this forum(and it works fine, I've seen results coming from it), but from what I've seen thus far, the matter of bringing Clockification(or other measures) back has been discussed in this very forum several times, all to the same conclusion. Several options were brought up, and most were dismissed or ignored.
I dunno, if so many people are unhappy about this, I think something should be done about it. I remember reading in a post by a mod stating that the staff has already discussed this several times and they always came to the same conclusion.
That's why I posted that post.

we've gone over it ad nauseam it's just a dumb idea that has proven itself to be dumb and in hindsight was probably never even feasible in the first place.
there's only so many ways I can spell out a round, even-handed dismissal

Alright, this idea has been dismissed for too long, and alright, it's futile to keep insisting on it. I admit it.
But you must admit that the situation shouldn't stay like this. If a good idea were to appear, an idea that would quiet the complaints of the Clock Crew regarding new member policy, then I'm guessing the staff would reflect upon this new idea, am I right?

They should do. Tha staff aren't in charge of the clockcrew, just the website. We are all as much of the decision makers as them.
Also, how and when did slurpee take over the site? I'm not complaining really, it just seemed quite a swift change and nobody really complained, which is odd
I'm already a fulltime jerk.

I was trained and received master status in inscrutable subterfuge by the renowned evil bastards' guild of southern bhutan. it's all to do with pacification, and an endearing demeanor.

Leek kind of dropped out of the picture, none of the other admins really did anything bad per se but nobody was really stepping up to take the wheel so Slurps did.
OK, here's why clockification went away: the forums don't decide who and who isn't a clock, its a perpetual state of being and we've been infected.
Here's why flaming doesn't work: we got bored.
Here's the solution: how about you calmly and politely take a newbie to the side, chat with them for an hour and explain what they're doing wrong, and what they should focus on. If said attempt fails, chances are they will get bored with not being accepted into the social fold and go away on their own. Someday they may come back, and generally when they come back they realize the error of their ways and try a bit harder, or they become terrible posters and end up banned.
I think the staff are doing just fine in this as compared to what I've seen. We've had some pretty decent posters, and a hell of a lot less drama surrounding he clockification system. Also the people we have don't leave once they become clocks.
WE SHOULD ALL BE NICE TO EACH OTHER AND GET ALONG OK EVEN TO THE NEW MEMBERS PLEASE GUYS
Quote from: Franklin G. Hamilton;1599648heres the problem: 99% of the current userbase never got told when they were fucking up. hence why we have all this bullshit that never existed back in the day.
My point exactly.
The topic was never about 'clockification'.
If the internet was such a sweet place then you could pull someone to the side and say: "Hey there little fella. I see you just posted there on that topic over yonder. Now see, we may not have a rule about stating the obvious or ruining a joke or telling some strange story about how your grandma once beat you over the head with a wooden spoon and it hurt like hell for a week and a half: We do expect a certain sort of quality to posts that yours lack. So if you would kindly just troll around for a few more weeks and observe how other people act, then I'm sure you can get the hang of it and everyone would be better for it."
But since its NOT a sweet place, we have to tell them how much of a royal pain in the ass they are and they should feel shitty about even trying. Otherwise they don't go away. And you have 1 more...and then another. Until after only 2 or 3 years the whole damn place is full of them. To the point that you can't even see quality posts anymore because you want to gouge out your eyes from all the stupid bullshit that stinks up the place.

Except for some people who
really looked hopeless and needed to be flamed by someone else for a while, I've done this on IRC. Not for an hour one-on-one, maybe, but I have offered advice to new clocks.
I think we should mail packages with dog poop to the houses of newbies.

I never go on IRC so I didn't know about it. Guess the Clock Crew takes time to help after all.
We still tell all new people that their names are taken, that counts right ?
Quote from: Ribs;1598336and generally hypocrites because they were just as silly when they started out.
It doesn't make it hypocritical to have been just as bad, it just makes it personal. Hypocritical would be GreenDayClock trying to flame new members.
The reason we have so many useless faggots is because too many people would rather take Rabid's approach, acting as some sort of loving mentor. I don't need to go find actual quotes, but we've all seen the posts in introductory threads.
QuoteHey, I'm ToyotaClock. I think maybe we started off on the wrong foot...
First of all, your name has been taken by a previously active member. This tends to give people the wrong idea, as it generally shows that you are unaware of or don't care about the Clock Crew's rich history and traditions. Let me suggest a few names that are not taken.
Secondly, I noticed you don't have flash. Well, let me take this moment to inform you that we are after all a flash community, but fear not; we are much more forum-based than times past and I'm sure it won't be a problem.
Lastly, I can tell by your posting style that you are unfamiliar with the Clock Crew's social hierarchy and unique style of communication.
And I can say from experience that, generally, this kind of help will go right over the head of the offending poster. Because the person that would post stupid shit in the first place isn't the kind of person that can suddenly realize the error of their ways.
I like how the people in IRC are often perceived as the biggest assholes, but at the same time they are usually more helpful than the bbs.
Quote from: Franklin G. Hamilton;1599648heres the problem: 99% of the current userbase never got told when they were fucking up. hence why we have all this bullshit that never existed back in the day.
now the acceptable response from these people is "lol" when being told to sit down and shut the fuck up. how can these people be counted on to tell people to stop fucking up, when they don't even know when they are fucking up themselves?
This is pretty much my sentiment. Everyone sucks

And now that you mention it, I didn't have the easiest time and it paid off in the end so long as I could keep my head above water.

I didn't say I coddle people, I try a positive approach first, then if theres no response, then yes, flaming or banning is called for. Most of the time nobody explains anything to the new guys and just ignore them. Then they think they're doing something right and all hell breaks loose.

That's reasonable. I think the problem though is when people keep giving these people chances.

Actually, as a 'victim' of flaming I must say I support the act entirley. If anyone knows who I am well enough to remember back to my begging here will also remember what a fucking ignorant, stubborn noob I was. Nothing spoke to me more than good old fashioned blunt hatred. I eventually fled and returned a much better poster. I myself would never flame in attempt to have someone leave, as I'm certainly not a GREAT poster myself, but I feel its undeniable that ive changed quite a lot and for the better. And I owe it all to being hazed by my superiors back in 05/06

That's just my two cents.

Yes, but the registry is not updated on a frequent basis, VCR does that once a year, I think.

By the way, I should probably mention that in the recommended names section it still lists BreadfruitClock despite the fact that he has been around for quite some time.

See? Those sections aren't verified frequently, and as such aren't reliable.

I didn't even check those sections to see if the name Aussie was free, I just ran a forum search and found that the only time it was considered was when it was one of BootClock's original ideas but he scrapped it when he couldn't draw the hat. _poogle_
I'm glad I nabbed it when I did, otherwise I would probably be GrenadeLauncherClock (yes, I like to play as the Demoman in TF2).
EDIT: But GrenadeLauncher still blows aFuckingHorribleClockName out of the water.
