So i wanted to bump our inglorious bastards thread, turns out we didn't have one!
WELL WE DO NOW!

NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN
Haha i gotta see this

everyone keeps saying that after the disappointment of death proof no one's sure what to think
but
death proof was awesome
so...
i can't wait

Came here to post this exactly. People don't seem to get what DEath Proof was.
I love "assemble a team of guys to do something awesome movies"
It goes all the way back to The Seven Samurai, which I happen to have here right next to me :)
Speaking of which I saw Resevoir Dogs for the first time yesterday.
The Orange-Brown moment was fucking awesome, the best part of the movie. It was such an awesome payoff for all that building. I was a little worried for a minute Tim Roth wasn't going to have much of a role.
I'm dying to see this!
And yes, death proof was fucking awesome, can't see why it did so bad on the box office, can't see why anybody would call it a dissapointment. Tasteless motherfuckers.
I wasnt too impressed with Brad Pitts acting in the trailer but I don't give a fuck because I want to see this insanely bad and I have for ages. Given how well Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction were received I can't imagine it doing poorly either.
I don't mind violence or anything but I think Tarantino really needs to go back to restraining himself a bit. He obviously loves basking in it and that's great but it was so much nicer in his older films when he held himself back because the bits of violence felt so justified.
It looks like he might be going back to his old ways with this one which is nice but I don't entirely trust him to not explode blood all over the place. He's a bit like an excited child.
A WW2 movie not focusing on the plight of the Jews? By Tarantino? Cool.
Death Proof was awesome btw
Tarantino? I'm already on the line.
I can't wait to see this. Brad Pitt's acting in the trailer isn't great, but for some reason I like the way he does the character. Maybe it's just the way he says "nazi's".
:)
How could you talk about the most violent moments in Tarintino movies not being shown/building tension and not mention "spider catching a couple o' flies"?
Quote from: CadillacClock;1606478I have no idea what you are talking about.
The rape scene from Pulp Fiction where Butch esceps then stands around deciding whther or no he should go back.
Post deleting nazis, Brad Pitt's gonna git yoo.
Quote from: Ribs;1606365To be fair in the case of kill bill the gore was fairly obviously designed to be intentionally cartoonish. It was designed to recapture cheesy old samurai and kung-fu movie gore.
Hostel, on the other hand...didn't see it, don't intend to.
oh for sure and I think he did a good job of it, however it feels a bit like Kill Bill was him finally going fuck it I'm going to make really stupid violent movies now and everything he's done since then has been pretty similar. Hopefully Inglorious Basterds will be a bit of a return to his less gratuitous stuff.
Quote from: Ribs;1607109As far as I know the only movie he's directed since Kill Bill was Death Proof, and I wouldn't call that particularly similar. Actually, it was pretty slow-paced for a lot of it, with a couple specifically notable violent parts. He produced Hostel and Hell Ride, neither of which I've seen, but I've only ever heard bad things about Hostel. Unless you were referring to something else?
no I guess you're right. I guess it feels like more in a change in his public attitude than in stuff he's actually made.

Well he's always turned his focus to a particular niche of film genre for each film he's made. There's always been a clear love of seventies exploitation, trash and cult films from the beginning. Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction were both influenced by the more niche gangster movies of the seventies. The innovative part was his focusing on characters and events that would have been a footnote of the original films.
Jackie Brown was a clear homage to the blaxploitation movies of the late seventies.
His focus now has become more involved in the exaggerated reality and high camp of these movies. The points of reference have become more and more niche and I think he's using his success and the freedoms that come with that to make the films he really wants to make. Revelling in the fun of those movies.
I for one am loving the ride and absolutely loved Death Proof and I'm really looking forward to Inglourious Basterds.
Never seen Mike Myers in a serious role, so I was interested to see how that'd go.
But yeah looking forward to this naturally.
I saw the trailer for this yesterday, oh god it looks hilarious :P

I've pretty much enjoyed everything he's done and thought Death Proof was great as a silly film but I do miss the feel of his more down to earth stuff. It looks like Inglorious Basterds could be a bit of a return to that, while still keeping the ridiculous stories.

Oh yeah well while I love his more ridiculous films none of them really hit on a cultural or artistic level like Reservoir Dogs. I wouldn't class Death Proof as important but Reservoir Dogs I would.
People are saying this is less of an action flick and more like The Dirty Dozen - just what I was hoping to hear. Movies that go deep into the characters are my absolute favorite (12 angry men, the 7 samurai)
I only wish it was out now because I really want to go see a movie today but there is nothing good up...
Looks so good! The kind of shit I watch.
Going to see a preview screening (it's only, like, 5 hours in advance of the actual release) tonight with friends. I'm excited!
AH! kill BRAD PITT IN HIS SHITTASTIC SOUTHERN ACCENT.
Really loved it. A bit too long but I sort of relished its length, gave the scenes lots of space to breathe.
Some of the performances were fucking brilliant particularly Christoph Waltz as Landa.
I love how little the film gave a shit about history, and how much it basked in its campness. It fucks with your expectations I was certain Shosanna was going to kill Landa, and obviously the fact that they killed Hitler was fucking with us
Great!
Hey Biblo, what's the violence like in the movie? Is it that ugly over-the-top gore porn kind of stuff or is the violence actually tastefully done?
Not that it affects whether or not I'll see it, but I'm curious.
this movie is fucking brilliant

Well like, kinda both? The thing about the violence is that it's very realistic (but as a result very graphic) when it happens, but it's kept to a minimum. A lot of the violence is implied and only a few parts are very graphic. We see
about 3-4 scalpings, a guy's head knocking around loosely from a beating with a baseball bat, a body being pretty disfigured as it's riddled with bullets, and a close up of a swastika being carved into a forehead Most everything else is more traditionally done.
Christoph Waltz was really great. He made the character really believable and layered but was still a complete bastard and never stopped being one, which is exactly what you want from a bad guy.

Just got back from the movie.
It was incredible. Absolutely incredible. I want to watch it again.
I am seventeen so alas I cannot see this fucking amazing movie.
I've gotten into plenty of 18's before, but the thing is I have a lot of friends who want to see this movie, and usually the larger the group the more less likely the ticket people are of letting you in if you look underage.

Saw this movie last night. It was excellent. The faggot kids behind me were like "that was shit, there was too much talking". I almost hit them square in the face.
Going to go see it tonight at 10.
That movie was damn good, my heart was still pumping as i was leaving the theater parking lot

I'm seeing this thing in like three hours. Can't wait!
I might go see it a second time. I'm eager to enjoy it again. I'm definitely getting it on DVD. Although I do have all his other films so I'd probably get it anyway just for the sake of completeness
By the way, was anyone else waiting for the foot scene? The movie had gone on for some time and I asked my friend "That's weird, there hasn't been a scene about feet yet in this film."
He said "Yeah, you're right, that's weird."
Then immediately after there was the feet scene.

Yeah I thought of it at the start but got distracted by all the awesome
Just got back from it. Brilliant.
I just saw this movie. All I can say is it was incredible. I found it hilarious when Brad Pitt tried speaking Italian.
This is not a WWII movie. It's a Nazi-killin' movie.
I just saw this movie and I thought it was better than Pulp fiction. I haven't seen Hitler get fucked up like that since "They Saved Hitler's Brain."
Tarantino should totally make a sequel and set it in modern times.

Just saw it. I really loved the whole feel of the movie and all.
EDIT:
Wouldnt the very last scene count as a trunk shot?
Where he says this is my greatest masterpiece?
EDITTTTTT maybe I am thinking of something else.
I really hope this sets the stage for the alternate history genre in film.
Just saw it last night. I can always count on Tarantino for a three hour movie that's so awesome makes me forget about the jerky and the box of goobers I have strapped to my shins.
I've always wanted to see more alternate history movies. Yeah, I hope this starts a trend in those as well.
When I saw Hitler get gunned down, I leaned over and shouted "I wonder if this movie's fictional?!"
Loved the movie, probably now my favorite by Tarantino. Waltz was definitely magnificent.
Quote from: Chaotic Silly Putty;1653270Tarantino should totally make a sequel and set it in modern times.
he's making a prequel.
also, this film is obviously a jewsploitation film.
Just got back from watching it. Amazing. Special credit to Christoph Waltz, whose performance was spectacular.
For someone who dislikes hebrews and constantly get disappointed when his favorite team loses the war; Is this movie worth seeing?
Meaning:
1) Hate patriotism and unrealistic gunfights
2) Dislike glorified nazi killing (they're people too youknow)
3) Really do not like hebrews put in a brighter light than worthy (aka München movie)

not for you, apparently. not unless you're also somebody that can enjoy a movie based on its merit.

wait are you unironically a nazi and/or white supremacist/antisemite
(this movie really owns by the way)
I know you will all buttfuck me for saying this but some parts were to wordy and drawn out. It needed to show more of the Basterds and less of the rest of the characters.
I also didn't get the part where after the jewish theater owner shot/got shot by her nazi stalker/budding love interest it is showing the scene playing that sad music and all of a sudden it cuts to another scene almost mid note.
They marketed this movie to look like something totally differently from what it actually was. I wanted another Dirty Dozen, thats what I wanted to go see, it isn't what I got. What I got was not bad, and I admit some parts were fucking great. But after I left the theater I felt kind of cheated. I wanted more Basterds and Jewish revenge, I wanted him to develop those characters. I actually think that may be what unseated (OR DIDN'T HAR HAR HAR DID I MENTION THE MOVIE FELT DRAWN OUT) me the most was what I said before, I wanted The Dirty Dozen 2009: Ultraviolence in France and didn't get enough of the violence or character development of the characters I wanted to know more about. Now i'm just rambling and I'm tired blah blah blah blah bklasfasdmogf
TLDR; was ok but not what i expected or wanted
So Slurpee, if you do not care for the whole "jews get their revenge" theme; Is it a good movie?
Quote from: SilverCherryClock;1657329wait are you unironically a nazi and/or white supremacist/antisemite

Not at all, I just don't like how much the jewish victims of WW2 are overplayed in contrast to so many other deaths; That is the true racism: Caring more for 6 million than a 100 million others.
Also don't answer me on this I'll just get misinterpretated and it would derail the topic :D
Quote from: ButtplugClock;1657346It needed to show more of the Basterds and less of the rest of the characters.
I disagree, I thought they were the least interesting characters, and in fact a lot of their scenes were quite unsettling as their actions weren't all that different to those of the nazis
Also, Propaganda you can't honestly expect people to leave you alone when in your opening statement you declare yourself as "someone who dislikes Hebrews"
Quote from: Biblo;1657439I disagree, I thought they were the least interesting characters, and in fact a lot of their scenes were quite unsettling as their actions weren't all that different to those of the nazis
For sure. I was expecting more of a series of Brad Pitt and pals killing nazis scenes and what the movie turned out to be was much better than that. I would say there were a couple of scenes that felt a little on the long side but it all helped build the tension that made the climax of the film so great. I felt a bit impatient a couple of times but by the end of the movie I was glad I'd been made to feel that way.

"The true racism"? What is that supposed to mean? Why is that racism true and the racism of the nazis not true?
Anyway, there's quite a lot of the nazis being shown as real people instead of monsters. Even the main bad guy who is a huge massive bastard is also likable and his motivations are more about being a selfish prick than being a heartless Jew hater. The film doesn't make a huge point of the jews vs nazis thing, it's more of a good guys vs bad guys thing most of the time. All that aside it's still a really well made film and if you can't appreciate that because of your little crusade then it's a real shame.
He said he dislikes Hebrews.
tonysopranoclock
I have to agree with Buttplug. I also didn't quite understand the random narrations by Samuel L. Jackson.
Quote from: RibsClock;1658591I just saw this and the timing is amazing.
And I didn't see either a trunk scene or a Tarantino cameo.
One of the nazis being scalped is a dummy of Tarantino, but his real cameo is when he appears in "Nation's Pride".
He's the guy that shouts about getting the tower.

Thank you for that, that made me actually want to see if for the first time ever, I just didn't want it to be a Transformers 2 patriotic film featuring jews instead of american flags.
That's why I love The Pianist, cynical and realistic view of the whole happening and not some overdramatic smear with sad music.
No I don't have any crusade and if anyone feel offended and wish to discuss it I'd gladly oblidge over PM, I apologize for my blunt formulation of words.
Tarantino is also the hands in the perspective shots in the strangling scene.

Ok that sounds much more reasonable than it did before. I'm not a fan of a lot of war films for similar reasons. There is a lot of nazi bashing and killing (obviously) in Inglorious Basterds but it's made pretty clear that it's only in the eyes of the characters that they're all evil. Most of the nazi characters are a lot more fleshed out than the Basterds themselves.
Yeah I felt genuinely empathetic to at least half of the nazis in the movie. During the actual scenes with the basterds they were much more despicable on average.
Quote from: RibsClock;1659038The first one, the captain that the killed with the bat, was shockingly probably one of the most admirable characters in the movie. He was polite, brave, and had great integrity.
Yeah blimey that actor did a good job. The look on Eli Roth's face before he killed the nazi was a good one too. That was probably the only point that any of the Basterds seemed like they were killing for more than just fun.
The entire First Chapter was probably the pinnacle of Tarantino's work imo
Quote from: RibsClock;1659118Also when they were shooting the shit out of Hitler.
I guess so but at that point they mostly just looked fucking nuts. When he asked the nazi if he got his medal from killing jews he had such a sad look in his eyes. I was pretty impressed seeing as Eli isn't really an actor.
Quote from: SilverCherryClock;1659122The entire First Chapter was probably the pinnacle of Tarantino's work imo
Yeah it could be. I'd put it on par with the really good scenes in Pulp Fiction at least.
Well the signatures were from a scene they cut, but yeah, here's an interview (http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/08/21/interview-eli-roth-talks-inglourious-basterds-going-method-to-play-the-bear-jew-nazi-atrocities-and-quentin-tarantinos-place-in-history/) where he talks about what the role meant to him. I thought he did good for someone who otherwise just makes movies that don't interest me.
Yeah, for someone who makes such pitifully bad films, Eli Roth really brings it as an actor
Saw this twice last weekend. Was fucking great, in my opinion.
Gorlami.
Ehhh, not really looking forward to this one too much. The whole premise of the movie just doesn't seem relevant like Tarintino used to do so well. I feel like because it's based in such a sort of far away time there's not going to be any of that classic dialogue that is extremely captivating and I think it's what Tarintino does best. What I'm saying is there isn't going to be any "Le big mac", no "like a virgin, toby wong fuckin' charlie chan", no "foot massage" kind of conversations that fit with the times.
edit: It's out? I guess I'll see it.
Quote from: RibsClock;1659453That was even more hilarious considering he continuously insisted that he was the best at Italian.
Correct-o.
I got to say that a lot of the negative critcism of this film that I have heard has been really silly and trivial arguments that are either comeing from those 'moralfags' or from people of the hurr durr EXPLSOIONS end of the spectrum.

Not everyone is prepared to accept World War II according to Quentin Tarantino
I don't think anyone can really argue against the quality of this film but there sure is a lot of story stuff that they could object to.

edit: It's out? I guess I'll see it.
Well, yeah, he already used those conversations in his other movies. It'd be weird if he used them again.
So Iwent to see it and I have mixed feelings.
For one it was better than I had thought it would be but that does not say anything good about it...
I could view it from a film Critiques angle and give it a 5.5/10, but the same film critique would care to see 300 as some allorgy of americans against arabs or whatnot...
Or I could view it as an avarage Joe and give it a 6.5-7/10 because it had some parts with good story.
Now my main issues is Plotholes (The cinema's lack of gaurds, how a underground group would ever not take with them anything that could compromise their cover/plans). The silly affection to gore (Scalpings etc.) and the useless hate. By silly gore I mean how it is portraied with a hint of satire, now District 9 does gore perfectly: Realistic and bountyfull WHEN the situation calls for it! Tarantino uses it abit to make unfair impressions.
And by useless hate I mean the fact that if you would strip everyone in this movie of their title, country and race it would just be about 8 tossers being tossers because they want to be the biggest tossers.
Now yeah some of you argue that this movie is about Inglorius BASTERDS, but if you'd make a movie named "Huge asshole" about a huge asshole being a totall dick for 2 hours that wouldn't justify the fact that he is still being a total dick.
Now stepping aside from the carebear angle and judging it for what it is;
I wish they had not corrupted Fredrick, I feel sorry for him.
I wish they had not ended the girl jews story in such a way that she became a sidenote in the mainplot (and everyone around her aswell)
I wish Brad Pitt didn't do such bad acting escpecially not besides his fellow actors since his face was using every acting muscle he had to look like a redneck whilst his fellow actors looked plain (Aside from the British officer and the bitter german soldier basterd who was godamn awesome.)
On the plusside I loved every nazi outfit and the SS Officer did a damn fine jobb in acting which lifted the entire movie.
I just wish he hadn't mixed silly hate/action with great acting/scenes so much. (First 15 minues in the contrast to Brad Pitts first speech.)

I saw this the other week, its fucking hilarious!
good film, critics miss point etc
Quote from: DigitalLemonClock;1666495good film, critics miss point etc
Actually I think it is the opposite.
I just think it is not a good movie... the story about the girl and fredrick is nice and has nice acting but I think the overall mixing of silly gore and satire characters (Hitler, Goebbles etc.) ruins the overall feeling of the serious parts which leaves you with silly hate scenes of people killing people.
The good is basiclly the british officer, the german basterd, the SS officer and Fredrick/Girl story. British and German basterd are as developed as all the basterds should have been but were not.
The SS officer playes his role with such passion that the whole reichstagg should have and Fredrick/Girl story was put ofcourse by above said arguments.
Not a bad film, just overpraised imo.

I saw the movie for the first time on the dutch premiere night and the entire theater was filled with real Tarrantino fans and everybody literally start shouting and clapping when that Hugo Stiglitz bit came on. Watching a movie with people who actually enjoy Tarrantino movies is so much better than watching it in a theater filled with chav's and their girlfriend who keep asking "who is he?" "why are they talking French :S :s " "eugh gross why are they showing this" fuck chicks, seriously fuck em, hard.
Quote from: RibsClock;1666705Folks tend to either get it and love it or don't and hate it. I think there's plenty who fall into the latter category and bash it unnecessarily.
Nah see I can understand what there is to "Get", it's just not my kind of movie. Which I find ironic since some people here hate 300 which I can see as an perfect example of this movie, not really a good movie unless you for some reason find that special thing that appease to you... for me 300 was good, for others this movie.
Quote from: RibsClock;1666716Woah man woah we don't fuck chicks around here come on be cool.
Quote from: RibsClock;1666760See saying it's overpraised because it's not "your kind of movie" means you don't get it to me. It's like me saying lobster is overpraised because I don't have a taste for it.
No see I can get how good it would seem for someone who puts his heart in it but that does not make it a good movie just as 300 isn't a good movie but I still like it.
It isn't worth the amount of praise it is getting because it is not a great movie, it is just not a bad one which some people love; Something which is in their right to do so.
Do not mistake my sceptizism with my utter hate for movies like Transformers 2 and anyone who does not agree it is the biggest piece of tragedy since the first murder of man.
Quote from: RibsClock;1666760The thing is though, this movie was different. The things I liked about it were not the references it made or the style it called back to, but that it contained some really brilliant writing, acting, and cinematography, and made me think. It was satisfying, funny, and suspenseful. As for the "hate scenes" I worry that some of that was truly hate on the part of some of the actors, and that it was just pulpy gore on the part of Tarantino.
I agree on writing, acting and cinematography in the cases where Brad Pitt, Goebbels and any Basterd except the German was not in which is why I am saying it is not a bad movie, it is just a brilliant movie stuck with to many bad choices.
Regarding the Hate I can understand if the actors feel genuine hatred towards what Hitler represents but the thing is it could've been a real masterpiece if they'd try to go beyond a skindeep feeling in those cases, to be honest I felt like a 5 year old had designed the whole last scene with all the bluntness that follows.
Then again that might be Tarantinos style but I don't feel like that is an excuse or explanation just as Tim Bortun can make bad movies even if he clads them in 51 grey filters and makeup.
I don't really care all to much I just don't want to be misinterpretated as one of those elitest reviewers so pardon the TLDR.
Quote from: RibsClock;1666760But you know, even if it was unintentional, it stimulated a lot of discussions regarding the mentality of the Basterds and the characters of the Nazis they killed.
Ofcourse and I am glad it did so.
Quote from: RibsClock;1666773But you see, that's where I have to disagree. I think it is a great movie, and what's more it's a movie that's great doing something different. There are so many aspects of it that are just incredibly high quality. One can't argue against its cinematography, it has oscar-worthy acting, it does a fantastic job drawing the audience into the story, and the story in itself is surprising and well done. I'd understand not liking it, or having no taste for it from a personal standpoint (as I do with Cannibal Holocaust, for example) but as far as movie-making goes I think it borders on ridiculous to attack its quality.
Not arguing against the quality; even the bad parts have over the top production values but then again so did Transformers 2.
But the overall feel reminds me of a christmas cake filled with to many fruits of different tastes.
For me it feels like they mixed parts of The Pianist, parts of Kill Bill, parts of Schindlers List and then parts of Die Hard 3. All the parts were great in their own but the whole is not always greater than the sum of its parts.
Quote from: RibsClock;1666773I really do not see the bad choices that you're referring to, I thought Brad Pitt was actually quite excellent in his part, and the part brought an important element to the story.
Well me and my friends could not really stand his acting, for me he came of as a bad redneck and as I said before he tried to hard to fall into characters that he looks out of shape next to all the other basterds (except the German one). Check the scene when he sits infront of the SS officer with the last basterd, Brad Pitt is using his every face muscle to look in character whilst the basterd besides him looks like a godamn sheep.
Quote from: RibsClock;1666773For the rest of it though...I can't help but feel like you're looking for things to criticize, you seem to be waffling between hating the idea of it being so nazi-hate based but then saying that should be explored more and in greater depth. I think it was outlined perfectly in the Hugo Stiglitz scene when he talked to the captain, and it expressed so much in one line that it resonated throughout the whole movie. It was clear as day how they felt about it and why they were doing this from that point onward, from the very first appearance of the Basterds in France.
No see that is why I put the disclaimer in, I CAN disregard alot of these minor faults I just don't see why I should. I liked the movie G.I Joe because it was probably the shittiest movie ever made yet it did not try to come of as anything else whereas people proclaim this movie to be quite grand yet I can not see the greatness of the forest because there are to many trees in the way.
There is to much happening and to little pacing to fit them togheter, the scenes with Brad Pitt and the basterds were horrible out of place next to that of the girl and fredricks story.
Quote from: RibsClock;1666773And frankly, I really have no idea what you're talking about regarding Tarantino's style, so I hope you'll explain further.
Well, SlurpeeClocks post above kind of personofies it. The western theme, the Goebbels having sex with his translator, the overthetop scenes which have no real feeling yet go for impressions.
I still enjoy most of his movies I just think this one does not deserve such comotion.
Once again I am coming of as overanalyzing it and once again let me say that I don't mind this movie all that much, I still find it as a 6/10. I just think it's being underanalyzed by its praisers.
propaganda you are silly, you know?
Quote from: Jefferson Twilight;1666710I saw the movie for the first time on the dutch premiere night and the entire theater was filled with real Tarrantino fans and everybody literally start shouting and clapping when that Hugo Stiglitz bit came on. I got a preview screening with my friend a couple hours earlier so there was only me, two of my friends, my friend's girlfriend (who gets Tarantino, I think), and a couple of guys behind us. It was awesome (though, after the movie the guys behind us said "That movie was boring as shit, not enough action.")
It sounds like most of you guys watched the movie with a lot of douchebags, the theater I went to had a pretty nice audience.
Quote from: RibsClock;1666786But you are. You're not saying "This is a great movie I just don't have the taste for it" you're saying "This isn't great. I can see how one could have a taste for it, but it is not as good as people say." You're criticizing the combination of the different elements as poor quality story, you're criticizing Brad Pitt as poor quality writing acted poorly, you're criticizing the pacing, the cinematography, the merit of the scenes with goebbels with his mistress and hitler getting killed and just in general attacking it from every conceivable standpoint.
Indeed I am, I don't know if we're simple mixing up our definitions but what I said was that the "quality" of the production value is great in every scene and most scenes are good alone but not togheter and skipping all the elitistic overanalyzing; I was just simple not amused by how the movie was presented. It was not because it was Tarantino or about basterds since I like Tarantinos other films and the movie "Dirty dozen" did this concept perfectly.
Quote from: RibsClock;1666786Which would, to me, come off initially as just overly critical, if you hadn't started to look for ways to attack it before seeing the movie, which raised my eyebrow a little. Forgive me for saying so, but I see every indication that you went into this with an attitude that I think made you predisposed to attack it.
Hahaha yeah well that is my cross to bear for my sins so I accept that and indeed I did not expect anything of this movie which is why, as previously stated, I was pleasently suprised but compared to what I had thought it would be that was not a kind judgement.
One could say I was biased but having a opinion about anything is biased.
Quote from: RibsClock;1666786I remember that scene quite well, where the decision is sitting pretty much squarely on his shoulders and he's very tense and distrusting, and the other character is stunned and afraid. The expressions fit their characters very well, and it fit the suspense of the scene well.
As for "bad redneck" he wasn't just a bad redneck, he was a leatherneck. You keep nitpicking the feeling of him being "out of place" but you realize he's the only "American" there, he's intentionally out of place. That scene where he's trying to be Italian? I think there's no clearer indication that it was completely and utterly intentional and part of the story. I wouldn't call his acting oscar material but I certainly wouldn't be bashing it the way you and your friends seem ready to.
Well see I can't argue against this because my freind Corpsegrinder, you've become what you seek to destroy. Whereas I nitpick to try and defend my standpoint of not enjoying this movie and considering it to be overpraised you are nitpicking to do the reverse. You could see it as the other basterd being a sheep, or that they had planned for him to look scared and that was a genius stroke... I just choose to see and the first thing that comes to my mind was not that he was scared but simple that he was a bad actor next to another one performing bad.
He is much better at the later half of the movie but still this is not a major point just an example.
Quote from: RibsClock;1666786Really, even if you saw these things as faults, and I really think that you're trying too hard in that regard to assert that they are faults, you yourself keep talking about how minor they are but then turning around and saying comparing it to "G.I Joe because it was probably the shittiest movie ever made"Really, you're not just finding minor fault in it, you're proclaiming it overall to be a mediocre and poor quality movie while claiming repeatedly that it is not so,
Hmm I am suspecting you are missing my points. If you read closer you see that my comparison is that G.I Joe is a bad movie but it does not come of as trying to be anything else, where as the feel I get from this one is the reverse; Not a bad movie but trying to be a great one. Yet they allow silly scenes like the last one into the movie.
Quote from: RibsClock;1666786giving it a 6/10 (60% is a D-, by the way, which I think qualifies as grading it as downright "bad") even on the good parts you seem to be looking for ways to turn them into bad things; like Waltz's acting being so good that it supposedly makes some of the other minor characters' acting look bad by comparison? It's ridiculous.
No see above 5 means worthy to watch and if you knew how much I hate just about everything that is made nowdays you'd realise that 6/10 is quite generous in my world, however that is my fault for not making that clear I suppose.
I do not find it ridiculous, have you seen the movie Dirty Dozen? Same concept and story yet there is not a single character who is not somewhat developed and has character whereas here they seemed to forget half the basterds which I do not consider good pacing regardless of how you wish to explain it.
And no I am not looking for ways to make it bad, I've said so before this is not an opinion I go around imposing in the world because I think it cares, I am just trying to explain my point of view and why I do not consider this movie to be so great.
When we came out of the cinema we discussed it vividly and one friend said it the best "I just don't think it was an entertaining movie".
Now if I'd say that it would look silly yet writing tldr is also making me look silly.
The reason it even gets a 6 is because the good scenes are up there on 9/10 whereas the bad scenes are down there on 3-4/10
Quote from: RibsClock;1666786Do you feel that way about my analysis?
I'd say you're overanalyzing it in a positive mindset which means where I see faults and errors you choose to view the good.
Dan Quayle said it best "I am always critized for the mistakes I make, but I am never commended for the mistakes I do not do."
Quote from: RibsClock;1666786For the record, you're still cool in my book, but I'm not pulling any punches in this so if I'm coming on too strong in that regard just tell me and I'll ease up a little.
Well infact I enjoyed this discussion and I contemplated on PM'ing you a {{{}}} :D, you were abit harsh in this latest reply but it is ok I'm a big boy.
Still I do not feel as if I have anything to win in this discussion as it seems there is Herman's Hermits frontman Peter Noone agreeing on my point of view which makes it foolish to continue preaching it.
Anyway all I wanted was to bring some different light on the movie and perhaps give people an understanding on why not everyone enjoyed it.
Mind you all one last time; I had not figured out half of these negative examples before I had to conjure them for the debate; The movie simple does not come of as amazing in everyones eyes even without presumption (my friends had wanted to see it from day 1 it came out etc).
TLDR.
oh god look at all these paragraphs what have you done
Quote from: RibsClock;1667350Hey if you're not pretentiously going over the movie detail by detail and rehashing it ad nauseum like we are then GEEEEEEEEEEDDOUWT
Yeah you tell him !
Also for the record I wish it to be known that I consider CorpsegrinderClock the winner of the discussion however I think I made a somewhat valid point which was my goal from the start.
{{{TLDR}}}
We make a great team CorpsegrinderClock, we should start discussing in other threads and parts of the forums aswell...
