SO i realized that when i open up a particular folder, it registers as empty. Nothing shows up on it, no icons, no thumbnails, nothing.
Yet when i access a file from Downthemall! on it, the picture pops up. It's there, but for some reason i can't see it.
Now this is strange.
It's on the portable drive, k:\, a Mybook 640GB external.
I don't really know if you tried this already or if it will work but this recently happened to me so I googled some crap and I came with up this:
QuoteGo into the said folder click tools > folder options > view tab > tick "show hidden files and folders" in the hidden folders tab click OK and off you go
Hidden folders are already revealed.
It's like it just took the files and buried them. Did i make it mad or something?
sometimes different operating system with show folder with filenames that start with a period, like if i look at a thumb drive from work on a linux system at home, there is a ".trash" folder on it.
or
perhaps there is some weird cashed file system stuff going on there?
No, it's like this.

I can access the image though recent folders and files even though my folder shows up empty.
Try doing a Disk Cleanup, as it may be stored in a temp folder somewhere.
try adding more shit to the folder and see if that stuff shows up
if not the folder might be broken.
Personally, I don't like putting anything other than letters numbers and spaces in file/folder names. Maybe you should take the dash out of the folder name. I'm basing this on nothing though, so I don't expect it to do anything.

My god, it's like a black hole! Whatever i put in it vanishes!

It's like a frogbag from hell! Everything goes into it and DOESN'T COME OUT.
See, this is why i called K:\ Loki. He always causes problems.
any reason you don't just delete the folder and make a new one with the same/similar name?
Like i told you. For some reason i;m registering files in it, they just won't show up.
If i delete the folder, they may be gone forever.
Have you tried moving/copying the folder off your external drive, or moving/copying files from this folder into a different folder (on your main drive or otherwise), using the command line?
Cutting the folder brings up the dialog box "Cannot remove: This folder is not empty"
I think this is just corruption. First time i've seen anything like this.
EDIT: Yeah. It's corrupted. I can't delete it. I wonder how that happened.
I'm not buying another mybook. Too much trouble.
Try tools > folder options > untick "Hide protected operating system files" (just below hidden files etc)
and click ok, disregarding the warning
edit: oh ok, corruption sucks.
in that case boot in safemode and shift-delete it.

With the .trash folder are you saying that thumb drives save the location of deleted files until they are overwritten? If so that is awesome and I wish I knew it before. I always thought it totally forgot the location of the data so you had no way of accessing it again if you deleted it on accident.
in osx, if I drag something from a flash drive into the trash, and eject the drive without emptying the trash, when I plug the drive back in, it re-appears in the trash can.
I never bothered to find out why it happens but I always assumed that the .trash that appears when I plug the same flash drive into a PC was related
