so i stumbled across the lego thread on SA and i've read like 50 pages in 3 days and it's definitely rekindled my childhood obsession with lego. so i started trying to sort my lego, i have probably 500 pounds of the shit so it's a pretty big undertaking, so last night i took a break from sorting and took a hike to wal-mart and bought this:
(https://clockcrew.net/talk/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fcache.lego.com%2Fimages%2Fshop%2Fprod%2F7778-0000-xx-12-1.jpg&hash=61d64b6fe8998d4f0ce1794442c8130c2ae7a225)
50.00 bucks plus tax, having fun building it, i wanna get into making some of my own models, like a mech or a spaceship or something, i also want to build a big city and cars and boats and shit to populate it. anyway any other fucking nerds in here also play with lego?
p.s. here's a link to the amazing thread on SA, fucking inspirational shit! (http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2670513)
I have a shitload of Lego, haven't touched it in years. I wish there was star wars Lego when i was younger. That Millennium Falcon is sexy, i also saw this huge Lego Star Destroyer once, it was expensive as shit though.

yeah i like my falcon, i bought it though as a fantasy of me buying the special edition minifig scale falcon but it costs like 700 bucks and is 5000 pieces. maybe ill download the instructions and see if i have the majority of the pieces and just order whatever im missing from bricklink.
I got hugely back into legos once I found brikwars (http://www.brikwars.com/rules/2005/cover.htm)

Nah man, MEGABLOCKS are where it's at!:dork:
I should organize my huge box of legos.
Aah, I had that model.
I bought it after I won the x-wing fighter, in a prize draw, from the lego website (which, at the time, was like winning the lottery).
You know what's gay and not nearly as cool as Lego? Playmobil, that shit sucked balls. Hey look a fortress i can't wait to build it! Oh wait it's made from 3 fucking pieces.

There was no room for creativity. Instead of making some sort of uber-giant-awesome-fort-of-Doom, you had to stack the little forts into a pyramid. Or something. I remember playing with them at my friends house when I was 5, and now that I think of it, that's probably my earliest memory.
I made the mistake when I was younger of mixing my megablocks with my lego. Megablocks are shit, and they can't stay together for crap.
fuck pebe, whatever the fuck it is i've never even heard of it but to me it looks like megablocks, a fucking lego ripoff with shitty sets made out of shit quality plastic. lego4lyfe.
also i'm gonna be near a toys'r'us tommorow and i get paid so i'm gonna spend a considerable ammount of cash on lego i think, too bad it's so fucking expensive.
I still got all my old legos from when I was a kid. The mid to late 90's legos are my favorites.

A pretty good Death Star was released. Not super expensive, but not to scale. Its pretty neat.
I love Lego, although most of my purchases are Bionicles.
If you're willing to use glue instead of snapping shit together warhammer is better IMO

I like Warhammer. But you can't take a Stomp apart and make it into a car, then take it apart again and make it into a house.
Quote from: GEARBAWKCS CLOCKKK;1670847I like Warhammer. But you can't take a Stomp apart and make it into a car, then take it apart again and make it into a house.
These are orks we're talking about. If you have any creativity you can easily make 2 trukkz (ork trucks) and an ork fort out of the parts for one stompa. You can't take them apart, though, you're right.
And thats whats great about Lego
not to mention warhammer is expensive as fuck, i once thought of getting some stuff for shits and giggles to put with my handful of model ww2 planes and tanks from back in the day but it just isn't worth the money if you don't plan on actually playing with it (which im not going to do for obvious reasons, mainly because it's lame).
Main I love Warhammer. But the price point is also valid.
I played it once or twice but the games are too time consuming. Building the models is the only really fun part. I didn't think it was too expensive but then I have a lot of disposable income. I'm going to stop derailing this thread now though and post this

Quote from: Chaotic Silly Putty;1670876Can't you get a solvent for the glue?
Depends on the glue
Your either using super-glue or plastic glue
But there aren't many reasons to unglue.
I realy liked the bionicles untill theiy made the same guys over and over in different styles
I still like the first style the most without all the shiny armor etc.
Quote from: Chaotic Silly Putty;1670876Can't you get a solvent for the glue?
Most glue you're going to use is going to work by melting the plastic and literally fusing the two parts together seamlessly. If you DO use a normal glue most solvents are going to melt the plastic. The only way to easily make parts swappable is to glue magnets into the parts and hold them in that way. You can also "pin" things in if you're sure they won't just fall out. Most people don't bother with that stuff though.
The bionicles are a bit after my time, i only own one. One of this things that can turn into a ball. My nephew has that Lego Viking shit complete and that's the most badass lego i have ever seen, with giant Dragons and shit. He broke his collar bone and wrist, so I bought him the Fenris Wolf and the Wyvern Dragon, cause im such an awesome guy. His parents, my parents and our grandparents bought him the 3 big Viking sets so he got the entire series in one day! This is the same nephew that made a clockcrew comic 3 years ago btw. Fuck yeah LEGO. That shit made up half my childhood and got me into engineering.

also you have crap like LDD and Ldraw/LCAD where you can make virtual lego creations for free, then buy them and make them for real.

I really love the Star Wars Lego. Although I do not care for The Clone Wars series I do however really dig some of the Lego sets from it.
Maybe I will get some lego if I can afford it sometime soon.
Too bad all the lego (http://guide.lugnet.com/set/?qc=lego/system/castle/ninja) sets (http://guide.lugnet.com/set/?qc=lego/system/adventurers/egypt) from (http://guide.lugnet.com/set/?qc=lego/system/pirate/pirates) my (http://guide.lugnet.com/set/?qc=lego/system/castle/knightskingdom) childhood (http://guide.lugnet.com/set/?qc=lego/system/adventurers/amazon) are only available on eBay or some shit like that.
Those were the best :( (Though Vikings and Indiana Jones are also cool.)
fuck i wish i had my old legos, i had 2 storage bins full of them, but unfortunately all i have left is 1 lego star wars pod racer and lego studios. I had once built this awesome mech out of a space set but fuck my ass everything is gone.
LEGO NOT LEGOS JESUS CHRIST
Which is correct as the plural of LEGO: 'Lego' or 'Legos'? Neither, actually. The word 'LEGO', when used as a noun, should only refer to the company that makes the product. Otherwise 'LEGO' is supposed to be used as an adjective. Thus, when referring to the pieces, neither 'lego' nor 'legos' is correct... rather one should say: 'LEGO bricks' or 'LEGO pieces' or whatever (using LEGO as an adjective -- and one should really capitalize all of the letters, and put the little 'circle-R' symbol after it (®)). This is all a matter of protecting the trademark of 'LEGO' for the company (using it otherwise degenerates the strength of the trademark). This is not to say that I use the word correctly 100% of the time... but that's the answer to the question (it's always fun/painful to read the near-flame-wars that start at slashdot.org (http://slashdot.org/) over this topic... and generally, both sides are wrong).

I used to have a zoo set.
theiy deleted the old bionicle site so I can only see the new crap, so I cant show what bionicles I got because I dont know the names
EDIT: I found this one (https://clockcrew.net/talk/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.collectinghq.com%2Fim%2F0001831.jpg&hash=cc5cd06d71105918815a39f93e381941a6b5a345)

bionicle was pretty cool. But they made wayyy too many of them. I had the original ones, the digger and that one guy who could kick a boulder around
also, long before bionicle there were the slizers and I had all of them :) THEY WERE AWESOME.

I always found Technic LEGO pretty lame, the regular bricks are way better.

Holy shit the relaunched the classic Pirate series. I used to have this entire set complete.
Quote from: Freedom Master;1671724the best lego set is the big assorted bin. get some creativity you fucks
Those bins are only good to add to your existing collection! The sets have the best parts and figurines!
Quote from: Jefferson Twilight;1671715I always found Technic LEGO pretty lame, the regular bricks are way better.
it was ok if you followed the instructions but I dont like to follow the instructions
Wow the pirate sets. I remember getting a lego pirate ship when I was 3. Which was around 1994 ish. I loved how stuff actually floated, water gave my lego a whole new twist.
But following instructions were a way to improve one's skill, likda like a tutorial for building.
I even taught some basic SNOT and greebling.
i agree with the best set being a big bin, but is started buying sets because i got bored of sorting bricks, also clam we're not all engineers like yourself!
i plan on doing some sick MOCs but for now im building my millennium falcon and darth vader tie fighter.
i spent 100 bucks on lego in the past week :c
Quote from: Freedom Master;1671780its not just applicable to engineering. when you are going to draw a picture, do you trace something or try to visualize what you want, and then draw that?
i visualize it but then again i have a pretty good grasp on drawing and not so great grasp on things like structural integretity etc.
Quote from: Freedom Master;1671783maybe if you practiced with legos more
that's what i plan on doing! the two sets i bought are practice runs then i'm moving up to the big leagues!
Quote from: PEYOTE;1671786that's what i plan on doing! the two sets i bought are practice runs then i'm moving up to the big leagues!

Quote from: Freedom Master;1671783maybe if you practiced with legos more
Where would MC Escher be with a grasp of structural integrity?
Legos used to be so much better.
Pirates, Spacemen, Cars, Medieval, Ninja. When they started getting into binocle it started going downhill.
you get a lot of wacky colors in those bins, i agree with pirate about adding them to a current collection though, not a bad idea. in sets, they come with cool odd pieces you don't typically see.
Oh man I remember the ninja's. They were the first sets to feature diamonds, katana's and I believe gliders too.. This probably makes me sound like a dick

I had EVERYTHING of that set. I got so many skeletons out of that series
The ninja and egypt shit was just after my time. I pretty much had sets from every series but the bulk of my lego was stuff from (several) Pirate and Medieval series (the one with the blue/lion, red/wolf, green/dragon guys mostly), oh and i also had that Western series complete. Never really cared for the City line.
Fuck yeah posting in a lego thread
I've got a huge fucking stash of legos somewhere
I also recall making some kind of sniper mech out of some bionicle parts that I found in a bag that I did not own
I will find it and take pictures of it for your viewing pleasure
