Title: How did you think of your clock name?
Post by: Loki Clock on October 01, 2009, 05:44:17 AM
When telling a new member how to pick a clock name, it seems like we always end up saying either to "be creative," "look around your room," or "look at the recommended names list."

So I thought it would be a lot better if instead we wrote how we've actually picked our clock names. You know, get the wheels turning in the head.

I picked my name because since I was 9 or so I've had a fascination, perhaps obsession, with Loki. Until I was about 14 or 15 I had a conspiracy theory going that I was somehow inextricably linked to him, evidenced by various symbological associations and the number of disasters I perceived to be surrounding my day of birth. So when I started pondering joining the CC, I toyed with this, I toyed with that, but when it came down to it and a friend asked if I'd considered joining this little group I knew there was only one real option for me.

Post by: EnglishClock on October 01, 2009, 06:10:24 AM
I was going to be Tophatclock at first, because I always found it funny that the pieces of clothing and personality that england is supposed to be stereotyped for are pretty much the exact opposite in reality. Then I toyed around with the idea of InvisibleClock which was going to be an invisible humanoid character where you could only see the clothes and accessories he was carrying, like the top hat, a classy black suit, a monocle, a cane, various other stereotypes, with a clock floating somewhere on there.

After that I just thought English would be the most straight forward solution which could potentially include all of these things, and was suprised to find it hadn't been taken, 3 years after the birth of the clock crew. Signed up as English and here I am today. hello.

Way back in the last months of 2005, I joined as Archangel Clock because i thought it would be pretty cool and I got a bit inspired of using it after watching Strange's "Lord of the Clocks" for some reason. I though using a roman helmet would be neat too.

That said I realized my clock was just too fucking hard to animate, and I had to face some dilemmas on how to animate the clock, helmet and wing in an appropriate angle, so I rejected it in the middle of 2006.

Later in jr high school's graduation trip I went to many places in Mexico including Guadalajara, Mexico City, Morelia, Zacatecas and Queretaro. And then I realized "hey! maybe a bottle clock would work too!", originally I thought MezcalClock would be a good idea but thought no one would know what it was, but then I browsed through the list of taken clock names and I saw no Tequila in there, which was a bit of a shock on how common the liquor is as scotch or vodka. i also picked it in a way it reflected myself: mexican, but white.

Post by: Fireman on October 01, 2009, 07:02:14 AM
I joined using PaperBagMask because that was my Newgrounds alias and was like yeah that isn't such a bad name. Then I got bored of it and didn't like it that much.
After doing some griefing on iscribble with my loveable fireman character I realised no one had taken Fireman yet! Then I was like woah the possibilities he could be a ball clock if you are really bad at animating BUT you can animate him as something decent if you have skill and it also is unique and doesn't sound gay at all.
So I went for it, was proud of it.
I wanted to be Lego at one point but a few other fags had called dibs on it that never where active. I didn't really know how that worked out at the time.

Title: How did you think of your clock name?
Post by: Wind-up Clock on October 01, 2009, 08:32:29 AM
At first it was going to be "namelessclock," an entity that stole the life force from other clocks and retains their powers. Luckily i got enough sense in me to realize that was a stupid idea.

I chose mine from a list of names i made up during my lurking period (the others included C4, Grenade, B). Alarm clocks are wind-up, so why not a wind-up clock? My art skills were mediocre at best, so i just went with the idea of a ball clock with a key stuck in his back, just so i can keep drawing him without any problems with details. He was originally grey and a static key, but i changed it to red because it was more cheery, and finally got around to animating the key.

I originally wanted to be ClockClock to be witty and original

But uh

ClockClock was already taken by Koala

So I was like "hm how can I still be witty"

And then I put on my Fossil wristwatch

And I was like "oh that is a tiny clock
...
fantastic faggotry can come from this"

lo and behold, Fossil Clock

I just never really got around to making the wristwatch version because I am lazy forever and I realized that a wristwatch-based clock would be kind of gay

So I just stuck with the cracked skull

I chose the name simply because I like monster munch.

I always thought vikings in general are the hight of manliness and badassitude. Everything from their culture, their mythology, their gods, all the way to their cloths are awesome. I came to the clock crew with the intent of being "viking clock", but was sad to discover that the name was taken. So, thinking quickly, I decided to be the singular embodiment of everything I love about the norse; Thor, God of Thunder.

I wanted to be a clock that was simplistic and not too hard to draw. So I made a list of clock ideas and custardclock was my favorite, I loved the design I had for it, but I was afraid custard might have been taken. not only that but flan just sounded better. So I took my favorite dessert, slapped a clock on that bitch and here I am. My second favorite was ItalianIceClock, but thats probably been done before.

Post by: Silly Putty Clock on October 01, 2009, 05:50:34 PM
I don't remember how exactly I got my name. My theory is that I was a hyperactive 12-year-old who still thought "randomness" was funny, so I chose silly putty because I had been playing with some silly putty not long before then and I thought something with the word "silly" would say something about my hilarious personality.
I actually still think the name represents me to a certain extent, but more because of my malleable point of view than anything else.

Well, most of it is actually in black and white, but the quality of the artwork is still really good. Junji Ito's style revolves around including an unsettling level of detail in grotesque images.

Originally I made a flash movie it was sorta of a fan/anticlockmovie.
It involved Pepsi clock spearing Orange Clock with a straw, and drinking all of his juices. because you cant kill clocks orange clock exploded out of pepsi clock, and pepsi clock recovered making an endless loop.

One of my friends I knew in real life (lol you guys might know him as slaughterdog) said I should make a tropicanaclock character an orange with a straw. After awhile I switched to the carton.

doubt anyone cares but im bored

back when I was first thinking of joining, I was thinking about what a clock does, and in my warped then 12-year-old mind, I came up that they make a "chime" sound, and for some reason, made my first design a pendulum with gears on it. After a bit of looking up, I changed to a wind chime, and then to a bar chime 'cause it's easier to draw.
