I feel programming could be merged with computer cr4p somehow.

Also looking through the forums list for once (I usually use the new posts button) I'm reminded we have a pretty nice forum.

Wouldn't you guys agree that a lot of the topics could be posted on their respecting forums? (We have a lot of "arts" forums; other forums such as video could be done in general as well)

I was considering this, but then again what would it actually do? Art threads would get bumped off the first page faster if they were all consolidated. Then again the forums spread out as they are now seem fairly barren.It also seems like there have been less active users lately, so maybe we should consolidate a few.



But none of this really affects me personally because like I said I only use the "new posts:" button and my subscriptions list.

We have so many forums that some of the less popular ones just never get posted in and are eventually forgotten. Programmers' Den, C0mpu73r Cr4p, The Jukebox, and The Dungeon are pretty bad on this. I would never even bother posting a programming problem in the Programmers' Den because it would be weeks before anybody even noticed the thread.

I would also rather see some of the near identical forums groups together in subforums, like moving Collaborative Projects into The League of Extraordinary Animators and putting the Pokemon Battle Arena into the Artist's Lounge. Also, as said before, Programmers' Den and C0mpu73r Cr4p should be merged.

What if we combined the art forums intro strictly audio, visual, and written?  We'd cut down some of the extra forums there and that way some art will get more views.

I'm just curious to see how hard it would be to implement. Piney could probably do it, but that might be asking a lot from him :( . I think people would use it a lot honestly, this way the user can join any forums into their own specific one; displaying whatever they wish.

...but of course, the easiest solution would be to simply merge the threads.

We should stop making threads, and just make a new board each time instead.

I think we have too many forums and someof them are turning into ghosts towns because not enough people give them the attention that they need to thrive and they end up not having that many threads to begin with and you go visit the  board and only 3 threads have been posted within the last month and it really is silly to have so many boards.

you should compress the leisure ones to more generalised forums and the same with the creative ones.
or or or do the already sugested option of combining the creative ones with their leisure counterparts.
there isn't really an art appreciation forum or a filming forum.

We merged/purged a lot a while ago, i think it's good enough as it is. Although i think i have suggested merging the cooking, sports and health forum into a "lifestyle" forum which could also include stuff like clothes (or things like the Watch thread) and alcohol/drug related threads. Basically anything that isn't art or media and doesn't belong in general. Which i still think is a neat idea.  Also maybe ad like /Comics to Literature (Literature/Comics) to stimulate comic discussion in that thread or something.

I think these two ideas combined would make for the ideal solution

Pokemon battle arena should stay separate, as it has fairly high traffic.

Flash
Arts
Gas Chamber
Spam

I don't see why we can't talk about non-flash, non-art based things in the general forum and just let it sink down overtime. Plus we never really had enough traffic to where an overcrowding of forum posts would become an issue. This would also slow down the bumping of long dead threads while bringing a new clear focus to the CC.

I feel like the amount of activity that the TV and Video Games forums warrant would be unnecessary traffic for General. It would get a little chaotic at times with threads getting bumped all over. I like the forums the way they are, honestly. I don't see the problem with having a lot.

That's the idea I posted. This would be the best solution, but the coding will be a bit challenging.

Let's say you click on Arts; it would take you a forum that displays everything under arts, including sub-forums. There would be a menu option to unselect certain forums (let's say the Pokemon Forum), so everything would still be shown, except posts made in the Pokemon Forum.

Combine everything with General and show 100 threads a page plus stickies and minimize images so the height of each thread title doesn't take up too much room.

I agree with all of these except the Programmer's Den. The first two would work out well, because it will probably lead to more criticism or commentary, as right now the authors and the audience have a brick wall between them. People who like listening to music go to the Jukebox and people who like reading go to Literacheur. So more people will probably be interested in listening to or reading YOUR music or writing. But for the Programmers' Den, this doesn't really apply. The average computer enthusiast does not necessarily understand code, and the interests in the two don't really overlap in the same way. If you think programming threads are being ignored now they're not going to get any help from having to compete with Mac vs. PC threads and OMG NU VALFE GEM DAWG threads.

We actually don't have to many forums if we were just more people.

Problem is we are not many people nowdays so untill we revitalize the Crew we shan't be needing this many forums for they only add to the feeling of solitude.

Obviously not when alot of forums stand vacant for days.

If people just do some flash and get some more members it's not a problem, it isn't right now either in truth but it just feels empty when the only forums to be uppdated on a regular basis is ART, General and Gaming.

Didn't we used to get a boost in members after clock day? like, y'know, from people seeing all the clock day flash? :confused:

I calculated the numbers, we had a much higher rate of recruitment on clockday as always, but only 12 of those became active(made at least 1 post).

It's depressing to look at, really.

Oh well. The current blood will probably last us until our deciversary. Maybe we should do more propaganda flash. Haven't really been hustlin' so much these past couple years. We can't self-perpetuate forever, it's going to end sometime, but still. We should at least try.

To put it into perspective, we've had as many active recruits in the past 20 months as we got after Clockday '05 (275, I left that data out because it made the low-numbered points hard to see.). Two weeks compared to almost two years.

Why don't we make a bunch of Flashes in January?  Any style, be it classic clock style or whatever, our aim would be to make as many clock flashes in January as possible.

Problem with humans is that we love to look back at things and nostalgia, once again; We COULD make the clockcrew more prosperous than it ever has been, it is within our might to do so: We just probably wont.

Also it's just the natural pacing of the internet at the moment, most people who experienced it back in the day noticed cool guys like us but now Youtube/Facebook/Etc have such huge fucking blinking signs alot of people miss the "other" side of the internet of which we populate

I'm not saying we're dying, but we're definitely at a much smaller size than we used to be. I haven't even tried doing a month-by-month population count of the clock crew due to the incredibly labor intensive process that would make. I am thinking of asking piney if he can pull up that kind of info, though.

I never realized there was a specific way to screw around in Flash a bit for fun.
Don't get me wrong, it's a wonderful formula, it's worked for me before.  But to say it's the only way isn't really true.

Also, the Flash I've started isn't a spam Flash, so, really, this reply was kinda pointless anyway.

If you have any musical work in progress and are looking for critique, just post it on the arts forum. If you're looking for someone to create a musical track for your flash movie, or are offering your abilities, post it on the Flash Works forum.

You guys said it best, we are a Flash Community, and that includes both Visual and Auditory arts, so why split the two into different forums? This way more people will get to listen to your music rather than the fewer members that visited the Studio.

I find this idea quite dumb, The studio was probably the forum i was bound to use the most. If anything give us a sub forum, it'll be muddled up with all the drawings.

I agree with the previous posts. I don't like these changes because it makes forums too generalized. As Cadillac said, making subforums would be much more appropriated. Not to mention the Green Door is gone.

I realize you've been away for a year or two but the topic of Art being for our art and art discussion has come up quite a few times.

Pushing photography, music, and created art into a single forum is just asinine. Creating a vague guise of activity by pushing everything into one forum does not nor will it create legitimate activity.

Sub-forums are a bit of a touchy subject, since some people bother to click them, others don't. If it was all down to me, I wouldn't have used sub-forums in the first place; a much better system should have been made.

I really do believe photography and visual arts do belong in the same forum. We just don't have many people do photography, thus, many people here don't bother clicking the photography forum. I don't see at all, how this creates a "vague guise" of activity, considering that the people that do bother with Photography will get more views and feedback on their work.

As for music creation belonging to the Arts vs Jukebox, I see your point, and have done as so.

So the other admins are more active than I currently am? I'm trying not to go against the majority's opinions; and it's hard keeping most of you satisfied as there's often opposing points on how the forum should work/look; thus what I'm changing might not be permanent depending on your guy's feedback.

As I mentioned, all the changes that are happening are not permanent. It's up to you guys to voice your opinions, and I'm here to listen and act upon them. I just find it that it's necessary for a little change to happen at this moment.





What will be ultimately done, is that like now, we'll have a few forums, but within them, the threads will have some sort of tagging depending on what the topic is.

Rough Example in the Arts Forum:

[Topic]----[Subject]---------[User]----------[Posts]-[Views]
[Photo]----[Wide Angle!]-----[StrawberryClock]----[10]-[100]
[Sketch]---[Quick Doodles]---[Olskoo]-------------[15]-[149]

Each forum would have 2-4 topics (more or less) and upon accessing, the user could filter out certain topics he/she wishes to see, without the need of having subforums.
