I also got a lionfish a couple of weeks ago. When he sees me he swims as close to the glass as he can get and spreads out his fins and wiggles begging for a ghost shrimp.

Nice tank, I've always wanted a big saltwater tank but it's expensive and you have to hire someone to occasionally do maintenance if you don't know exactly what your doing. It's been my dream to have an octopus or two and a mantis shrimp. Maybe a cone snail if I can get ahold of one.

I actually looked into owning an octopus but they're extremely difficult. You need at least a 60 gallon tank, and it's the only thing you can keep in there. If you put any fish in there, it will eat them. If you put another octopus in there, one of them will eat the other. They also only live about 6 months, but rarely you can get them and they'll live a year. You also have to feed them live crabs and clams. All in all, as much fun as they are (you give them infant and toddler toys to play with so they don't get bored) it's really not worth the trouble unless you live on the coast where you can obtain crabs daily.
Also, a live rock system (using rock from the ocean) isn't hard to maintain. You just do 25% water changes once every few weeks and be sure to add calcium, stronium, and iodine if you have corals. Also get a shit load of hermit crabs and snails to keep the algae down.

When I saw the title, I thought of the thing you do while fisting someone where you open up your hand and wriggle it around inside them.

No, it's still poisonous, I just avoid putting my face in the tank. Should I get stung I have to go to the hospital D:

Damn, I wish the wild starfish around here looked that cool.

We just have boring star shaped fuckers who get into our crab pots and eat our bait.

Shit, thats a hard question, the tank was $300, that included the sump and powerhead. I put about $500 of live rock, $100 for the protein skimmer, $50 for a heater, it costs $1/gal for saltwater so to fill it is about $100 for the tank and sump. About $320 for the lighting (I have two metal halide ballasts I haven't hooked back up since rebuilding the stand, the bulbs are $60 a pop). The lionfish was $40, rock anemone was $20, clown fish $20 each (2), mandarin dragonet was $20, bulb anemone was $40, file fish was $10 because I got him teeny tiny, coral banded shrimp was $20, dartfish another $20, chromis was $5, pajama cardinal was like $20, basket star $15. I use to have a lot more expensive fish in there, until I realized until you tank is over a year old, you might as well flush you money down the toilet because they all die. All in all it's a really fun hobby, just really expensive to set up and make mistakes.

Funny enough, the basket star came out of the caribbean sea, the guy at the shop said he's never seen an orange one, most are normally brown.
