I have no clue how to do this, does anyone know how? I have a 400 mb 20 minute long .avi that should be roughtly around the size of 150mbs. How do i do this? Ive tried to use virtual dub and it just confuses me and makes the filesize like 2 gigs.
I thought the whole point of .avi was that it's a huge uncompressed file with the best quality.
Pretty sure the only way to lower it is to lower the resolution.
edit: If you have windows you can do this by importing it into windows movie maker and then export it smaller size. Quality might be shit though.
Well i dont know shit about how to do any of that, also it needs to be avi because i have a stand alone player.
Seriously just try dicking around with the resolution in windows movie maker.
Yea, i was hoping for some real help here.
import it into adobe premiere and export it with a different .AVI compression.
I dont have adobe premiere.
I never worked with movie maker but I guess it also has different .AVI compressions
I uninstalled movie maker ages ago guys, Does anyone here know how to use virtual dub?
shoot anyone who mentions movie maker. It is terrible with everything including compression and resolutions and shit.

Are you sure its going to lower the file size? Does it export to divx? Have you looked into this? I'm not looking for a "this may work" solution, Im looking for a "Do this shit here" solution. I dont want to download a program and dick around in it for another fucking hour and a half.
Try using ffmpeg (http://ffmpeg.org/). I got a 2.9 MB sized .avi down to 340 KB

Ill try this, does it stay in avi format?
Yeah it stays in .avi format. there's even an avi DivX thing, which is what I tried.
