Title: Bitch about your medical problems
Post by: Dragonmaw on December 31, 2009, 04:27:55 AM
I have pernicious anemia. It's when the body can't process B12 due to a lack of intrinsic factor (I swear that's what it is called) in the stomach. I have to do intramuscular injections on myself with a big-ass needle every two weeks. At least I'm not afraid of needles.

Oh and I had kidney surgery when I was 15 because my kidney was the size of my liver. This was shortly before I became a clock. I also found out that I am allergic to morphine, as it caused a reaction exactly opposite of what it is supposed to do. Joy.

Feel free to complain about how your body is a failure.

I broke my leg and it never healed right. Both my knees were shot by the time I was 16. I've been concussed with blows to all sides of my head and some how my brain still works. I can't sleep but for maybe 4 hours without being overly tired afterward and what have you.

I have apparently gotten allergies and my body's been itching, bumps and all, like crazy since October... and I have no idea what I'm allergic to.

Also I'm fat and have crooked legs, so I can only run for less than 5 minutes. :(

Me too, actually.  No allergies or existing medical conditions.
Although I am short-sighted and have to wear contacts, so I guess that's something.  I think I do -2.25 lenses or something.  My doctor says I've actually leveled out and my vision won't get any worse.

My left shoulder pops whenever I'm lifting something or moving funny.

I had a Spermatocele taken out of my nutsack when I was 16. It was close to 2 inches in diameter. To this day I have a constant dull pain in my right testicle.

I cant seem to gain weight.

Visual Snow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_snow) - Not so much of a problem since you get used to it, and it's only really noticeable once you start thinking about it. Infact it can be kind of cool sometimes, but needless to say I'm getting bored of it.

Prickly Heat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miliaria) - Really really annoying. Skin gets unbearably itchy when you get slightly warm, but it goes away once you get hot enough to sweating point.

VVV Shit, how could I forget hayfever? It's like a permanent cold, but worse because it itches like a bitch, and lasts five months.

Also I used to suffer from insomnia, but I've found ways around that.

I have Hayfever. In Spring, it's a party of sneezing and nose-itching.

Also, for some reason I get food poisoning quite often.

And I have floaters, if that counts.

-4.5 lenses here. Shit's insane.

Uhm... I have Eczema? I never really notice it though.

Other than that nothing. Oh, I think I may have exploding head syndrome, but that's more cool than a nuisance.

I wish I wore glasses so I could look like a fashionable artsy guy but my eyesight is way too good. Um.. I get a dry mouth sometimes and drinking doesn't really help you have to eat instead so the saliva will keep my mouth not dry.

And I'm too pale : (. The pale look will never be "in"

I dislocated my kneecaps once (yup both of them, separate occasions though) and my knees have never been right since.

Well for starters I've got athsma, though it's not nearly as bad as it was when I was a kid, and a bunch of allergies, meaning I produce more phlegm on a daily basis than the rest of the world produces in a year.

I also have skulliosis, which causes the left side of my rib cage to be significantly higher than the right. Pressure on my chest is scary. Also I get back pain but I don't know if the two are related or not.

On my right hand, the knuckle of my ring finger is not on top of the joint, but about a cm behind it just kind of hanging out on the top of my hand. This is because I punched a firedoor when I was 16 (my inept networking teacher was insisting that a kilobyte was bigger than a megabyte) and didn't realize it was broken until it had healed in the wrong place.

And finally, I'm bipolar. This means I have to smoke pot all the time so I don't go into mania and freak out or get depressed and stop moving. At least I don't have to get my blood tested every week.

I'm -4 in one eye and my other one is so fucked they can't fix it so my brain just pretends it isn't there most of the time.

I'm used to that though so it's fine.

My main complaint at the moment is that since I had glandular fever I've been sneezing a lot and it's pretty annoying.

I have breathing problems. Bronchial problems when young, used to take steroids nasally for my sinuses, and I've pretty much had to force my breathing periodically to refresh my lungs. That last one is a bit hard to explain, but I'll try. It's like when I breath I only fill up a part of my lungs, so every now and then I'll be short. At this point I take a really deep breath and then kind of *force* my lungs wider (I thank this ability to my powerful diaphram) in order to take up the remaining space in my lungs.

I think its asthma personally, but I've always been stronger than it so I never bothered to get it checked.

Insomnia is, also, an issue for me, but I like it.

Most of my problems are mental. Social anxiety, ADD, learning disabled, depression etc.

I think my worst physical disorder is the fact that my teeth are an absolute mangled trainwreck. I would have had them fixed a while ago, but we were running out of money at some point and couldn't afford to keep my braces. We can pay for it now, but my mom can never remember to make orthodontist appointments and whenever she does remember they're always out to lunch or have the day off or UUUUUUGGGGGHHH I JUST WANT BETTER TEETH GOD DAMN.

Also when I was growing up I had a fear of pooping so I would always hold it in. This (literally) stretched out my bowels, so now I rarely need to go jettison some weight, but when I do my loads are fucking huge. I clog the toilet every time, but it doesn't bother me as much since it gives me bragging rights.

Should I say it? Nobody has said it yet. I feel like I have to say it if no one else will.

Quote from: RibsClock;1710957I only have one kidney because an artery wrapped around it and choked it off. It was connected to my other kidney like a siamese twin (horseshoe kidney syndrome) and because of this there was significant scarring on my remaining functional kidney when my injured kidney was removed.
My kidney actually had a similar problem, although it was not nearly this bad. There was a UPJ blockage in my ureter which prevented urine from leaving the kidney to my bladder. This was causing the urine to be reabsorbed into my bloodstream and the kidney to swell with sediment. By the time we found out, it was 14 times its normal size and I'd had what I can only describe as a menstrual cycle for 15 years.

Basically, every month I would get these terrible cramps in my abdomen. It would last for a few days, then go away. It would make me very irritable and I'd lose quite a lot of sleep.

Thankfully, the kidney wasn't dead yet. After another year they would've had to remove it completely. With the blockage gone, the kidney functions, although at a much reduced rate compared to the other, and I no longer have cramps. The downside? Kidney stones. Lots of fucking kidney stones.

I'm as healthy as an ox, though I suppose I could stand to work out more.

Once I get back to college I'll hit the gym.

I'm kinda chubby. 6' 3" and 200 lbs. I could stand to lose 10-15 lbs. Not really fat though.

I have an unusually large ribcage, and my pinky toes fold over my 4th toe, and I'm nearsighted, and one time I got a hangnail and my toe got kind of green and I had to cut the dead skin around my toe myself because I don't like going to my doctor and I fixed it!

I've also had kidney stones before and I'll admit I cried like a little girl, but I passed them without painkillers.

Quote from: RibsClock;1711126See if I get punched in the stomach I might die because my kidney is right in the front instead of in the back where it's supposed to be...

...but that still sounds worse to me. Kidney stones are a cold blue bitch, and I was asymptomatic until I was seventeen.
I dunno. Dying from a gut shot sounds pretty bad to me!

I have OCD. Sometimes pretty bad, but for the most part under control. It may or may not be related that I experience physical pain when I touch certain fabrics, like velvet and corduroy.

Pleuresy attacks sometimes, rare nowadays but pretty common around 13/14.

I had really bad asthma as a kid but I grew out of it (it permanently messed with my endurance but not too badly). My only other physical problem is that I can't sleep without medicine. At all. I just stay up without getting tired until I take a specific cocktail of pills. For days even. The main mental thing I have is Tourette's syndrome. It causes you to have things called "tics" or basically involuntary movements. From minor motor tics like little facial movements or tapping your feet in a certain way, to major vocal tics like rhythmically screaming or cursing loudly. It's not a big deal nowadays but I had problems with it when I was in elementary school. I would constantly shake my head or make weird squeaking noises. Up until about then they didn't have medication for it so they tested me and a group of other children with Aricept, which is normally for Alzheimer's. Funny enough, it worked. To this day I take it although I don't really think I need to anymore. In addition to that I have OCD.
