I'm enjoying trying to figure out these best of the decade lists
1. Shaun (of the dead)
2. Steve Zisou (Life Aquatic)
3. Anton Chigurh (No Country for Old Men)
4. Patrick Bateman (American Psycho)
5. Randy the Ram (The Wrestler)
6. Amelie
7. Ron Burgandy (Anchorman)
8. The Joker
9. Wall-E
10. Hans Landa (Inglourious Basterds)
I am partial to Jack Nicholson's character in The Departed.

oh yeah he was pretty great
Hans Landa and Ron Burgundy are two for me, I'll need some time to think of other characters.
I am quite partial to McLovin from Superbad, but I'm not quite sure he's one of the "best".

I had Seth on my list for a while because he has such a great personality and loads of good lines but I'd have to put him at about 15 or 20. All the main characters in Superbad are pretty great to be honest.
1. Daniel Plainview - There Will Be Blood
2. Anton Chigurh - No Country For Old Men
3. Ron Burgundy - Anchorman
4. Randy the Ram Robinson - The Wrestler
5. Hans Landa - Inglourious Basterds
6. The Joker - The Dark Knight
7. Maximus - Gladiator
8. McLovin - Superbad
9. Borat - Borat
10. Gimli - Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Plainview ftw
Yeah Plainview probably wins. Followed closely by Eli Sunday
I would also like to add:
Harry Pfarrer (George Clooney, Burn After Reading)
Captain Vidal (Sergi López, Pan's Labyrinth)
Simon Skinner (Timothy Dalton, Hot Fuzz)
Diane Selwyn (Naomi Watts, Mulholland Drive)
Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell, Moon)
Sy Parrish (Robin Williams, One Hour Photo)
I forgot Maximus from Gladiator oh no

Yeah I had the majority of these on my list before I chopped it down. It's tricky to make a top 10.
Hmm, if I had to choose a character from Born After Reading it'd probably be Pitt's character, although it'd be a very close tie between Harry and Chad.
Another one I'd have as a contender on that list is at least one of the characters from Snatch.
This will require a bit of thought...

Oh yeah I did consider Chad but just thinking about Harry's bullshit allergies and floor obsessions put him on my list

No particular order:
Brick Top - Snatch
Archie - Rock'N'Rolla
Hans Landa - Inglorious Bastards
Joker - Dark Knight
Rorschach - Watchmen
Jack Sparrow - Pirates of the Caribbean
Agent Smith - The Matrix
Maximus - Gladiator
V - V for Vendetta
And Paul Rudd in 40 year old Virgin, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Role Models, I Love you Man, Anchorman etc. Paul Rudd is always my favorite character.

Oh shit I forgot about Agent Smith. The Matrix doesn't even feel like it was this decade.
Allan Quartermain & Rodney Skinner (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen)
Quote from: Munglai;1712332Oh shit I forgot about Agent Smith. The Matrix doesn't even feel like it was this decade.
The first (read: good) one wasn't
Quote from: Biblo;1712367The first (read: good) one wasn't
Aha that's why then. The Matrix and Fight Club and American Beauty are all really hard to place. They feel almost like 00's movies and it's confusing.

Fuck I forgot Rorschach, but fuck it not revising the list again
Oh i also liked Riddick from Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick TBH.
Quote from: Tom Jansen;1712475Oh i also liked Riddick from Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick TBH.
hes not a great character, but you gotta admit, he kicks some serious ass. which is awesome.
I'm going to view this as characters introduced this decade, otherwise Hannibal just steals it (fuck you Hannibal and Read Dragon were great and Hannibal Rising doesn't exist)
Hans Landa
Daniel Plainview
Harry (In Bruges)
Anton Chigur
Sam Bell
Robert Ford (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert ford)
Leonard (Memento)
WALL E
Captain Vidal
Wikus (District 9)
Borat (kinda a TV character)
TV characters?
John (John from Cincinnati)
Every character from Deadwood
Gaius Baltar and Tyrol (the engineer?)
Trinity Killer (Dexter)
Every character from Mad Men
Tony fucking Soprano
Paul (In Treatment)
Daisy and Mason (Dead Like Me)
Quote from: PatriotClock;1712408Fuck I forgot Rorschach, but fuck it not revising the list again
In all fairness, Rorschach is a character from 1985. The unchanged film version just happened to be released in 2009
IF we're counting cartoons, anyone voiced by Steve Blum. Rodger Smith, Mugen, Leeron, etc.
Okay, maybe not Leeron. He was a funny character, though.
Unfortunately, Cowboy Bebop was 98-99, so Spike falls right outside the range.

The entire cast of The Venture Brothers.
Also, Kamina.

Well if we're going to talk about TV...
Omar Little (Michael K. Williams, The Wire)
...actually, everyone in The Wire
Amélie made Audrey Tautou my favorite actress.
Woo Jin-lii and Oh Dae-su from Oldboy, for the same reason as Daniel Plainview.
Quote from: Phil Ken Sebben;1713344The entire cast of The Venture Brothers.
Yeah but I would specifically nominate Dr Venture because I think he's extremely well characterised.
Quote from: Juror 8;1714033Woo Jin-lii and Oh Dae-su from Oldboy, for the same reason as Daniel Plainview.
Yeah they're great too.

yes
also im going to have to say that Walter White and Jesse Pinkman from the TV series Breaking Bad have to be two of my favorite TV characters from the last decade. listing off all of my favorite film characters would take a long time.
Quote from: Marlix Wright;1713348Also, Kamina.

got my vote.

It's great to see Walter slowly turning from a man in a desperate situation to an actual awful person. To me that's what the title is about anyway.

The movie is from 2009. This thread is called best movie characters of the decade.
I just saw Harry Brown. Michael Cane's character was pretty excellent.

Quote from: Munglai;1714469As cool as Uncharted is, I'm pretty sure it's not a movie.
It's more movie-like than most movies I've seen this year.
