Title: Reccomend me some books similar too The Illuminatus! Trilogy and House of Leaves
Post by: buttplug on January 29, 2010, 03:08:38 PM
I am looking to read something that is in the spirit of The Illuminatus! Trilogy and House of Leaves. If you have read either or both of these you know what I mean. I need something to do while there is no one in the lab to tutor.

How is the Shrodinger's Cat trilogy?

there was this book that i read a long time ago. i cant remember the name, but it was about this girl who was attacked by something in her basement so she followed it into another world ruled by and evil witch who the main character must battle because she is the chosen one and can do anything by just imagining it. oh yeah, and her little brother is really pissed of cuz hes not the chosen one. but she eventually beats the evil witch in a giant game of snakes and ladders that didnt really make any fucking sense because the did it in some giant pyramid. and there was also something about a giant fucking army of rodents led by the little brother and some wizard skunk thing. overall, good book.

The New York Trilogy by Paul Auster? it's pretty meta.

Compound. It's a bit short (around 240 pages) but a good read.

Schrodinger's Cat trilogy is good fun for someone who read the Illuminatus trilogy. It actually uses some of the plot threads and ideas that were trimmed from Illuminatus to make the book shorter for publication. It's a lighter read and (a bit) less of a head trip, but I think it's actually funnier too.

I haven't really found any books like them since, just books that supplement the knowledge in those books and allow you to catch more references on subsequent reads.

So I guess now I have to read House of Leaves. Been meaning to for forever anyway.

Gonna pick up The New York Trilogy now, I'm surprised my school's shitty library even has it.
