I work for CompUSA which is a 'sister' company to Tiger Direct. I could potentially get you a better price.
Another interesting factoid... 'tormented-soul' on Newgrounds (of
Star Wars Lo Mein fame) is a corporate exec for our company.

i already have an Audio-Technica AT2020 Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone - #270620
It's been giving me the worst fucking shit ever, I plug it in to my computer (yes I have an adapter) and try to record- all I get is some really indistinct fuzz or nothing at all. That's with recording in stereo. In mono (depending on the program) I get some sound, but there's no bass, all treble, and it sounds terrible.
Yes I bought phantom power for it. It works fine with an amp though.

I think you need a preamp. Also, what you really need for proper audio recording on your computer is an audio interface, popularly but I think incorrectly referred to as a sound card. And it must be FireWire - USB has too high latency for much effectiveness in usage. For one thing, it will take care of the preamp requirement, but for another thing, it's multichannel, so you can use multiple mics with it. That is, if it's the thing I'm thinking of. To tell you the truth, I don't know a whole lot about it, so I may be conflating it with another thing that you can plug a bunch of regular mic jacks into.

I seriously considered doing this before I lost my job and my money.
Unless you have an external sound card, you should always record using a digital mic... HUGE difference.
I'm a big fan of non-analog audio devices.
And by non-analog, I mean as much as possible. Keeps all that interference and fuz out of the recording.
I'm such a fanatic about it that I've made my own headphones... they0're digital, w/ dual ferrite cores, dual internal sound cards, and a couple other gizmos crammed inside a koss ur-20 housing (because it's a really comfy and durable headset housing).

Go into your local grocery/convenience store, find the lowest priced item (probably individually wrapped bubble gum or candy), buy $200 worth of that and then return it 15 minutes later complaining that you have no friends to share it with. Then spend the $200 on something worthwhile.
