Squirtle just gets more volume. He gets two offensive water attacks by level 12 when Charmander just gets ember at 9 and Bulbasaur doesn't get vine whipe, a 10pp attack, until lvl 13.

Ivysaur rocks because of Razorleaf, but you find Surf around the same time if you weren't overleveling too much.

Well, the first gym leader is Brock, and using Charmander against him is kind of hard.

Edit: Also the second was Misty, and Lieutenant Surge was the third. So for the first few Gym Leaders, Dwarf's right, Bulbasaur is the easiest to use.
Title: Best pokemon starter???

Bulbasaur is my second choice because he's pretty cool.

I never really liked squirtle.
Title: Best pokemon starter???
Post by: Silly Putty Clock on February 20, 2010, 10:28:25 PM
I only ever chose Squirtle and Charmander. I like Squirtle because it can learn Surf, which is handy because it's relatively rare for Pokémon to be able to learn it, and because it can learn both ice and ground attacks, which gives it a chance against both of its elemental weaknesses. Also, according to the Pokédex, Blastoise can punch through steel plates with its water cannons. How badass is that? It's basically a living tank.

Charmander gets more cool points, though, especially for its evolutions. Fire dragons are indeed awesome. Also, Charizard can learn both Dig and Fly, which I always liked. However, it's not hard to find Pokémon that can learn those moves, so it's not such a big deal.

Overall, I prefer Squirtle, if only because I always focused on my starter Pokémon rather than balancing out my party like I'm supposed to. Blastoise is good as a one-mon army.

Squirtle was the best considering what gyms/trainers you were going to end up going against in the beginning of the game. If you picked Charmander when you got to Pewter, you just got it in the ass since fire couldn't do anything to rock unlike water (and grass). I've started out with each one though in separate files, Squirtle has just always been a favorite.

Technically bulbasaur was when it comes to gym leaders, since its best against rock and water and earth, and is resistant to electric, grass, poison, while it was weak against psychic and fire.

Comparably:
Squirtle best against rock, fire, and earth, resistant to water, weak against electric and grass, and neutral to poison and psychic
Charmander best against grass, resistant to fire, weak against rock, water, earth, neutral to electric, poison, and psychic.

Totodile was awesome though.

I was thinking of something that looked kind of like an Octillery, with a thing on it's head that looked like a volcano and had black smoke coming out of it like a black smoker hydrothermal vent. And maybe it could have a signature move that is a water type attack, but it has a chance of burning the opponent.
