I'm letting myself get totally excited about this. I NEVER let myself get completely excited about movies anymore, because I can't even remember the last time my fragile optimism wasn't crushed, but there's just no way to hedge my enthusiasm.

Don't let me down, movie. <3

P.S. The trailer's not really that great but the Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead trailers were the same kind of stupid, where for some reason they present the overarching genre twist as the only thing worth advertising.

I think it's pretty great.

It would be keeping in the tradition of Scott Pilgram having tons of in-jokes if they made a reference somehow. Maybe when he finds out they went out he can use the line "What, are you funny or something?"

You should

It's kind of freaking me out how good the casting is.

Kieran Culkin appears to actually be Wallace Wells

Michael Cera has nailed Scott's stupid grin

Chris Evans looks like Bryan Lee O'Malley drew him when he's talking about the league of evil exes

Also, it's difficult to not get excited about something when Invaders Must Die by The Prodigy plays over it.

Also "It's on like Donkey Kong" is a fantastic tagline

Also this is pretty good too:

I was really worried about who they would cast as Wallace before since he's one of my favorite characters in the series, but yeah, it looks like the guy they got might actually do a good job.
I was shocked but not at all surprised when I found out it was a Culkin.

I generally think they put in as little of the plot as possible and just get right to the action so we will spend money on a movie with explosions and punching.

I mean, observe 1:40 in this trailer:
[u2]OX8enKJ197I[/u2]

They can't even let a dude finish a sentence, they cut him off right after he barely gets to the letter M in "time" because they wanted to show Michael Cera bust through a wall and some crazy awesome face-punching.

I'm going to this thing (http://www.savagecritic.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Scott-Midnight.jpg) because 1) I've got nothing better to do 2) I wanna play the game and nobody I know has a PS3 3) maybe I'll get some other comicy things I dunno 4) any chance for free movie tickets is nice (damn things are expensive).

It'd be cool to meet any other clocks in the SF area!

This movie has the absolute worst tagline that I have ever heard. I have no idea how many people it takes to make a tagline that awful, but they all deserve some kind of reward for that.

Just read the book and I am so mad now that Joseph is not in the movie. I love how his relationship was quietly built throughout the course of the entire series. I love his character, I love how he interacts with the other characters and him + stills made me smile and giggle more than pretty much anything

Well keep in mind that the film departs for chapter 6 because they didn't have access to it when making it and had to make it up apart from a few suggestions and small ideas from Bryan Lee O'Malley so the big climax to him and Stills' relationship wasn't there. So without knowing about the ending, Joseph does seem periphery.

scott pilgrim is gonna be a great movie. My main problem with the movie is that one movie abridging an entire six book series might not be enough. I can understand why they would go with only one movie, but i really hope that they still retain the charm and laughs from the silly banter that goes ons

In all honesty BLOM's art style is suited more to static comics than animated cartoons.

IDK, I think the simplicity of his style would work really well for frame-by-frame animation. Unfortunately, nobody is going to pay for fbf anymore.

I dunno. While I do think that animated thing would look better as a handdrawn animation, the style they picked works fine. Nothing life changing but it doesn't jar me. The silhouettey bit in the trailer looks great!

Back from the movie.  The movie was great when it was following the book.  The pacing was breakneck but still worked and the movie was hilarious and immensely enjoyable.

However, after the fight with Lucas Lee, the movie starts to deviate heavily from the books.  I don't care about that, that's fine, but as soon as the movie started doing its own thing, the pacing really started to suffer.  After the fight with Todd, the whole movie just seemed rushed and it lost a lot of the charm and character built up in the first half of the movie and instead became more of a "Scott fought this person, he goes on to the next fight, and after that the next fight".  By the end of the movie it's pretty much all just fighting.  Again, I wouldn't care so much if it weren't for the fact that the pacing of the movie is bad and you can't escape the feeling of how rushed the movie is.

It's still a great movie, it's hilarious and awesome and Wallace (my favorite character from the series) is awesome, but everything starts to falter the second half of the movie.  It's a shame the second half couldn't match the quality of the movie in the beginning because it was pretty fucking fun to watch at first.

So, kinda disappointing, a great movie until after the fight with Todd, and then it becomes a flash of colors that start to make less and less sense as it goes on.

Still loved the movie, I just think they could have made it so much better with even just an extra 10 minutes in the film.

I have to admit I haven't read the books yet. It'll probably be a while before I do.

That said, the movie was pretty awesome, I loved how it had a great dash of humor mixed in with a pretty strong plot. Having not read the books I can say the story built itself well enough through the movie to stand on its own. Sure, it was outrageously fast paced but that sort of worked for this movie, what with all the action and stuff they put in. I liked the end, which may annoy some of the "true fans" but while it started to become an action flick, the deal with Giddeon was pretty cool, and I liked his character for it.

Also I loved Wallace. He is pretty darn gay. And I:

I consider myself a pretty big fan of the comics, but i thought the ending was fine. The only reason why it was significantly different is because they didn't have access to the final book while making the movie. The ending was very satisfying, and it did pay off

Saw it yesterday, I agree with whoever said that it felt a bit rushed during the second half- with the exception of the fight with Gideon. I felt that was given as much time as was needed, as was done very nicely (even though it was totally different from the book lol). I also particularly loved how Scott handled NegaScott in the movie. One complaint, though, is that they skipped over most of the third book, which was my favorite. Since they took out most of Envy and Scott's dynamic, and didn't reveal the whole Todd was cheating on Envy thing, that whole part seemed totally weird. Also no Envy coming back like in Book 6, she just kinda disappeared (yes I know that book six wasn't out when this movie was written but it felt awkward to just pull Envy out for one scene then have her vanish into thin air). The moral of the book and the movie were totally different too, while the book's moral was "learn from your mistakes and don't be a dick" the movie was more "respect yourself and don't be a dick." Not that it was bad, on the contrary, it was great and I loved it. Just different.

Also Book three had great lines like "Today a child is born unto us, and his name will be bacon" and "The man is a dick, baby. He hates us vegans and truth seekers." They weren't in there.

Also I am now totally gay for Kieran Culkin.

As much as they chopped out of the books, I really liked the finished product. (Actually, I finished the books just so I could see the movie. i really stopped reading them after "Gets it Together") I know that stuff has to be changed and moved around to make a good adaptation, but for some changes I was just thinking "Why?"
Knowing that the story was written before "Finest Hour" clears up a lot. But the movie stood well on it's own, and did not need the fame or fandom of the comics to make it a good movie.

I really enjoyed it, however it could have been longer. Seeing some actual chemistry between Scott and Romona would have been nice, as well as spacing out the fights scenes more.

Damn it, I wanted to see more of the supporting cast. Sex Bob-omb are great.
