The man behind the Inception-influencing Paprika and me-influencing Paranoia Agent has died at age 47 of cancer. This feels like a huge loss to me personally. I loved Paranoia Agent so much, and it felt obvious that the guy had so many more stories to tell.

tokyo godfathers was quite good
and it's a shame he died so young

once miyazaki and takahata go, the good anime directors are literally going to be shinichiro watanabe, hiroyuki imaishi, and that white dude that did tekkon kinkreet.

also all anime sucks and is gay

This is a shame.  Paranoia Agent is one of my favorite animes and I enjoyed the hell out of Paprika.

I, like, just ordered Paprika on Blu-ray a few days ago from Amazon. I wanted to get Paranoia Agent on DVD too, but it was all sold out. His stuff was good stuff. And now there won't be any more :(

He directed almost half my "Anime I really should make time to see" list, it's too bad.

Also 47, wow, he was younger than my mom. It's sad to see someone so young and talented die.

What a shame! Paranoia Agent was one of the few animes I actually enjoyed!
Damn this planet and it's lack of a sufficient cure for cancer!

Watched Paprika again today. This is absolutely heartbreaking. I don't know, it may be because I felt he was such a huge influence on me personally, but this may be the most upset I've ever been over a "celebrity" death.

I imagine if I were old enough to appreciate Phil Hartman when he died I would have felt the same way.

That's sad. I haven't seen much of his work but we watched Perfect Blue in college and it was great
