Title: The Dark Knight Rises

http://www.deadline.com/2010/10/tom-hardy-reunited-with-inception-helmer-chris-nolan-on-batman/
QuoteEXCLUSIVE: While Tom Hardy's plan to play Mad Max in the George Miller-directed Mad Max: Fury Road has hit another delay, the fast-rising Hardy's in the mix for another big film at Warner Bros. I'm told that Hardy has been set by his Inception director Chris Nolan for a lead role in the next Batman film at Warner Bros. Insiders are keeping the role secret and won't even say if he's up for a villain role, but that seems a reasonable assumption. Hardy has followed up Inception with lead roles in the Tomas Alfredson-directed  adaptation of the John Le Carre novel Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, and he's currently starring with Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon in the McG-directed Fox comedy This Means War. CAA reps Hardy, who's expected to return to Fury Road when it goes.

I'm glad Tom Hardy is gaining popularity, because he has been awesome in every role I've seen him in. I'm sure he will be amazing in the new Batman as well.

Yeah I'm excited about this. Ever since Bronson I've been amazed by him.

I think he'd be a good Black Mask:

They're saying nothing about him being Batman, just about him having a lead role.  If Nolan's directing the next Batman I'm not sure he'll switch out Christian Bale.  He already pulled that stunt once with Kate Katie Holmes and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

I overheard some dummies in class today saying that he's going to be the new batman. I highly doubt it, but if he were to replace Bale, would you mind? I sure as hell wouldn't.

Nah, he's a lot more like Batman than Christian Bale is. Batman/Bruce needs to have an apparent calculating intelligence - Christian Bale just comes across as being kind of stupid. There's no way he'll give up the role though, he loves feeling important.

I'm hoping they go with a Bane story and make him the scheming genius he's supposed to be instead of just assuming he's an idiot because he's big. Getting Catwoman involved makes the most sense at this point though.

Wouldn't be surprised if the third movie is the end to the Nolan batman trilogy. Would make sense to base it on Knightfall staring Bane.

specially this part:
"The story takes place over approximately six months. Bruce Wayne (Batman) suffers burnout and is systematically assaulted and crippled by a "super steroid"-enhanced genius named Bane"

I don't know about knightfall.
long halloween had a sequel.
I wouldn't be surprised if batman 3 was largely the bits of dark victory they didn't already put into dark knight- probably not the serial killer, since they skipped that sizeable bit in long halloween, too, but the arkham breakout, batman blaming himself for what happened with dent and becoming even more of an asshole loner, maybe some of the mob stuff from long halloween... there's a lot to work with.
I think introducing another rogue element would feel like a bit of a retread. with two-face dead, and the joker... unable to attend (and, really, their two-part act about chance, corruptibility, and faith having closed its curtains pretty soundly when deebo threw the bomb controller out the window, batman took the fall for harvey, and alfred burned rachel's note) it kind of seems like batman's problem isn't freaks anymore.
the city thinks he's a killer (not entirely unlike what happened with jean paul valley in knightfall, tbqh), and most of his allies can't stand beside him- dawes is dead, dent is dead, gordon has to lead a manhunt against him, and lucius fox was threatening to resign. not to mention Mysteries knows his identity, and hasn't been given any reason to believe he didn't murder harvey dent in cold blood after rampaging on maroni and his men.
the villain, if there is one, is probably going to be somebody that jonathan and christopher nolan can fit into those themes (and how they mesh with batman's quest to rid gotham of its criminal element) to create a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. my gut instinct would honestly be the penguin (it's kind of a shame r'as was wasted in begins, because he'd be my go-to rogue to follow an act like the joker and two-face), but I'm not the creative genius behind dark knight and the prestige.

I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that when they pitched the idea to Warner they pitched it as a 3 movie deal so if he didn't want to make a third one maybe he shouldn't have told them he wanted to make 3!

I think you're right but they don't like the Penguin so we can be pretty sure it won't be him. I think whatever they do as a primary villain story, Catwoman would be a smart move for a subplot. With Bruce in such an unstable position, he's going to be considering either retiring Batman or becoming him permanently. In Dark Knight he was feeling as though he may be able to give up being Batman soon but now with the guy he hoped to replace him as a symbol for justice dead and no one else left to support him besides Alfred the idea of just giving up his normal life is going to be tempting. A Catwoman story would be perfect, she can act as a temptress, giving him a reason to leave his old life for good, while also acting as a warning, showing what the freedom that comes with this new life can lead to. I'd be really interested to see Nolan's take on Catwoman. I'd like to see a version where she's just sneaky and can't really hold her own against Batman in a fight so he doesn't want to hit her out of guilt more than anything. Put a whole domestic abuse spin on it. Nolan would love that.

Honestly, he's also the most possible in the real world one left other than Catwoman as far as major Batman villains go.
Bane is somewhat realistic, at least more so than the likes of Killer Croc or Clayface, but the full extent of his strength is still usually taken to superhuman extents in most iterations I've seen.

Well there's people like Hugo Strange, Black Mask, Firefly, Deadshot, Mad Hatter, Zsaz and The Ventrioloquist but they're not as well known. If it wasn't most likely going to be the last episode in a trilogy I'd like to see them do the Ventriloquist. He's really interesting but doesn't have enough of a connection to make it a final story.

And yeah you could pull off Bane as long as you just made him a big guy who's trained himself to peak form like Bruce has but has an edge on him because he takes some pretty powerful steroids. He doesn't need to be a giant, just a big guy. Hardy could do a good job he got pretty super buff for Bronson.

Zsasz was already in Batman Begins.

I think The Ventriloquist would be really interesting, certainly a challenge to do in a serious way but if done correctly could be very cool. Supposedly he was going to be in the third Schumacher film before Batman & Robin tanked. He'd certainly be easier to slide seamlessly into that world than Nolan's.

I definitely think Black Mask has potential. It's got a lot of the psychological elements and the ideas of the vapid high society over the corruption of Gotham that Nolan would be attracted to. Also, his look in the picture I posted looks seriously like Tom Hardy's character in Inception, just wearing a mask. I can see 2 problems with using him though, 1) Black Mask growing up to hate and resent Bruce Wayne is quite similar to Mickey Rourke's Whiplash character in Iron Man 2, so it might come off as a bit done. 2) It can sometimes feel like a cheat when a character is introduced in a sequel as someone who knew the lead well during childhood or earlier in life but has never been mentioned before.

Catwoman certainly makes sense, Rachel's dead, Bruce is distraught and vulnerable. She would fit in well but with her being in Batman Returns and that Halle Berry movie existing, as well as her never being a really strong character presence, she really couldn't be the central villain or plot.

Riddler would definitely be very interesting if done well. Toying with Batman, leading him around, red herrings and the like. I'd like to see how Nolan handled him.

It's a very tricky call, Joker and Two Face were very obvious choices. Their strength and their ease of fit were perfect. Not to mention their fame in and outside of Batman circles. I'm really looking forward to seeing who we get!

I'd also like to see Scarecrow return again. That's lots of fun!

If Riddler's out and he's gonna go with the kind of story that seems most likely I reckon Bane's the best bet. There's a good chance he'll do something completely different though.

I really hope Nolan isn't too worried about people's current perceptions of the characters and does Cat Woman. She's kind of the only remaining villain who has a really significant tie to Batman and I'd like to see her dealt with by a good writer instead of just made into nerd porn.

To be honest I think killing him would be a good move. They could have someone else become Batman at the end or something I don't care. I just want to see superheroes moving away from comic-style writing where they're all immortal and just go through the motions over and over again.

No one gives a shit. I'm a huge Batman fan and I don't give a shit. The only people who give a shit are the anal ultra-fans and we shouldn't give them the slightest bit of slack because they've been ruining comics for decades.

This is a different story and the further it distances itself from the rigid, stagnant continuity of comic-world the better. Superhero writers need a fucking wake up call.

yes.

but it was also to provide an in-universe explanation for why everybody kept dying and coming back to life, and put an end to it.
nekron, one of DC's numerous embodiments of death, became Black Lantern Guy. he'd left the door to the afterlife open a crack, as part 1 of a long-term plan to take over the universe with zombie douchebags. (because he could also claim anybody who'd died and came back to life for his army of douchiness. slick.)
his takeover push failed, and it's widely held that he probably closed the door behind him, making death in the dcu much more permanent.

it was a pleasant surprise, but all it means is they're probably not going to kill anybody for a while, not that superman's story is suddenly going to become finite.

Yeah I heard about that. Honestly comics just need to stop referencing themselves all together and tell some damn stories. Continuity and backstory is fun and all but superhero lore is so thick trying to get into any new comic is like wading through treacle. Pretty much the only decent comics I've read that were made since the 80s are ones that find a way to completely detach themselves from the standard comic universe so they can get away with proper storytelling. 90% of modern comics are just long running soap operas with tits and fists thrown in to keep little boys happy. It's a real shame.

Bane looks kind of shit but so does Batman without all the lighting and post-production so who knows. I hope they do something to make Bane look bigger. He doesn't need to be comic book huge or anything but the scale has always been his main aesthetic.

When I heard they were using Bane and Catwoman I kind of assumed the theme was going to be masks and how having a Batman-style alias can easily lend itself to evil and how Batman deals with that, but it looks like neither Catwoman or Bane is going to have a mask so I have no idea what the story might be. I'm going to reserve judgement for now but so far none of the costumes reveals have been as exciting as the Joker's.

Yeah I was able to follow what he was saying in the prelude thing but that "you have my permission to die" line is pretty much unintelligible. Nolan's Batman trilogy is definitely going to go down in history as the Batman trilogy with the funny voices.

We can assume from this scene that the movie takes inspiration from Knightfall... where Bane exhausts Batman by unleashing anarchy in Gotham and then ambushes him in the cave when he's worn down from trying to restore order. This preview shows how perfectly played this is... from Bale's face when Batman realizes he's walked into a trap... to Hardy's, as MFC points out, glorious "Mr. Waynnnne."

I'm pretty psyched...

kind of had to fight myself from lolling the entire time I watched it. A lot of the same problems I had with Prometheus.
