and that's like, totally cool and everything.
I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT I LOVE YOU GUYS, THE CLOCKCREW AS A WHOLE AND AN ORGANIZATION. I'VE ALWAYS LOVED YOU GUYS, YOU'RE LIKE THE BROTHERS AND SISTERS THAT I NEVER HAD GROWING UP. YOU'VE TOUCHED ME IN MANY WAYS THAT I CAN'T BEGIN TO THANK YOU FOR. YOUR FLASH HAS MADE ME LAUGH. YOUR POSTS HAVE MADE ME CRY. WE'VE SHARED SO MUCH AND I AM GLAD THAT I COULD BE HERE WITH YOU FOR YEARS AND WILL PROBABLY BE AROUND FOR YEARS TO COME.
HOWEVER,
You're all a bunch of sensitive ninnies. I realize that having never made a flash of my own, or really contributed to the community outside of the forums, and briefly time, I have no right to complain about the setup of this group. I don't intend to change anything, I don't intend to ever hold that kind of power. I just feel that I need to point out the obvious that has already been pointed out in several threads here on what's cleverly been titled Misc Disc.
Many (not all, but many) of the threads I pop into from time to time for my reading enjoyment are being poisoned with people complaining about the way that the clockcrew isn't what they want it to be. It isn't pretty enough. It isn't active enough. What have you. Well, you're pretty much got a few options here. You can continue doing what you're doing now, which is arguing all over General Discussion like it was intended to be a complaints forum or you can quit the Clockcrew, since you can't really dislike something that you never see or aren't a part of.
There is a lot of talk about needing to bring in new blood or new animators to make the clockcrew strong again. Isn't it just as important to try and maintain the relationship between the current members and the crew? Over the years we've had a lot of very talented animators here, and several are still around. You see them posting in the forums. Why isn't more being done to motivate them as opposed to just pulling in new, possibly expendable members? I'm not saying you need to start catering to every members whim and want. I remember when the front page, or the forums used to be swarming with contests, or ideas, or suggestions for everything from collabs to shorts to pretty much any type of movie. At the moment the front page, or TIEM isn't saying a whole lot outside of who won clock of the month in october, and talking about how people need to work on Clockopedia. I'm not saying that Clockopedia isn't important, but I think that if the flow of inspiration to make flash movies is revitalized, likely the inspiration to work on Clockopedia files will follow.
Another suggestion I would make would be to condense the forum. We don't need all of these subforums. Having all of these separate little sections does is make this place look bare and desolate, which not only is offputting for current members, but it doesn't really encourage guests to sign up or take a real look. It's depressing. A lot can be said for a little bit of space management, and how it could improve the overall look and feel of the site. There's no reason why Competitions & Events and The Colosseum shouldn't be combined into one. They aren't different enough that they couldn't be put into one place, and be handled under one name. I also don't see the need for Employment Opportunities to be it's own section. There are two posts. These could easily just be posted in General, and it would get more attention. Or if someone has a job posting for a flash artist, it could be posted in the hybrid competition colosseum forum, and if someone had a web designer posting, that could easily be posted in general or computing and programming. Wherever the poster deemed it would get the most views.
I have decided to post this little suggestionfest in General Discussion, as opposed to Site Feedback, because I was a bit turned off by posting in Site Feedback when I saw that the most recent post was made in a thread entitled "smiley requests go here ok". The posts being made in the feedback forum are not the most commonly talked about or important things to you guys. Why aren't you posting your actual problems there? That's why that subforum exists. I see posts being made there by Dwarfinator and Clammo, so they're obviously checking up on posts being made, so there's no reason for this type of stuff to spill over into General. Not this much.
So, there you go. There's some suggestions I have that DON'T involve what I assume would be that much coding work, don't require vast amounts of everybody's time, and could potentially liven this place up again a bit.
Recap:
1) Post more contests (not involving rewards, just for the sake of fun), collab idea, flash ideas for people who aren't feeling motivated right now to give them an idea instead of bitching that no one does anything.
2) Clean up the forums so that it gives a bit of an albeit somewhat falsified morale boost. It feels nice to see less forums being visited more frequently, rather than having it spread out.
3) Make Tiem have more to do with flash rather than Clockopedia and the like. Remember, people won't be motivated to work on Clockopedia likely until things get moving again.
4) Quit your bitching, quit your sass, don't take things so personally and utilize the Feedback Forum. It's there for a reason.
PEACE
P.S. This is directed at everyone. Moderators, Admins, Clocks, Whoever. Nothing is directed at a specific person. Everyone is at fault here, and no one is taking responsibility or making little changes to fix things. I'm included. I'm aware of my faults in not doing anything or taking action.
P.P.S. I have no issues with receiving a ban for this. No one ever said voicing my opinion was going to be widely accepted as a good thing.
Why would you be banned?
tl;dr

I've seen issues in the past where people are banned for similar posts. It's a possibility.
@Slash: Exactly

Well thats fucked up
I also think your almost 100% right. All this hasn't settled in my head yet but it looks about right
You're not gonna get banned, the mods are more chill now. Even biggs doesn't ban for arbitrary reasons anymore. Also we should change the coliseum back to the pokemon battle arena.

This is a viable alternative to my suggestion.
This is all true man. If you get banned for this the banner has a dick WAAAAAAAY to far up his ass.
summary:
make more mofies
bring back old members
less sub forums
how could this happen to me I made my mistakes
nowhere to run my life goes oooonnnnn..
also I am working on something ok so DONT WORRY YOU FEWLISH MAYN
If you get banned for this I will leave this place.
I agree with everything you said. Some of the forums should be deleted or changed to one. But I still think we should keep some of them separated.
Quote from: CadillacClock;1793237I wish to further discuss the possibilities of banning ShotglassClock while missing the point.
I am applying to Western and if I accept their offer, I fully intent to sleep on your coach and fulfill the role of "that guy on the couch".
You'd best get accepted boy. I have a very comfortable futon with your name on it.
Quote from: CadillacClock;1793246That's a tempting offer.
also, lol.

I appreciate it from you the most, of course.
I'm sure that at one point having more forums and subforums seemed like a great idea, when we were getting more traffic and had a more active population. You have to be able to adapt with situations though, and right now we're sitting at a point where it doesn't seem like a good idea to keep things so needlessly cluttered.
This is even more brought to light by you stating
"without a doubt General is where you want to post something if you want everyone to get involved in the discussion.", leaving several of the other forums completely without use, as no one frequents them.

oh, its one of THESE threads again.
I agree with all of that except for the spam forum.
EDIT: Also General should be at the top like FU said.
Putting the flash forum above General is just symbolic and will actually have no effect
Quote from: RibsClock;1793266Flash Help - Should be the main forum for the clockcrew's creative endeavors.
- Flash Tutorials - I hope to start making Clockopedia our main place for tutorials, it's much better for categorizing and storing things like that.
- Saturday School - An archive, basically. If Saturday School is still going regularly, I have no objection.
Showcase - Seems to me this should be merged with flash help. Maybe the creative arts forum too.
Employment Opportunities - If it was getting regular use, great, but right now I think it's there out of wishful thinking.
Competitions and Events - I think this should be up there along with an amalgamated flash/art forum
The Collosseum - Again, if we had the traffic for it.
Site Feedback - Maybe this should have a more general subject that would get more use, encompassing not just the site but what people are looking to do or contribute to the crew
Vidya games - Always gets some form of activity. Stay the course.
Art - Why this is below :this: is beyond me. Merge with flash.
Music - Maybe there should be sort of a production forum and a discussion forum for the arts instead of one for each thing. The production of flash and art and the like in one, the discussion of television and music and how Luciano Pavarotti used the power of his voice resonating through his beard to cure polio etc. etc.
Computing and Programming - Might as well leave it there, I suppose. I can't think of any better place to put those.
Cooking - Hey shotglass look over there kill it.
Reading - Last post was a month and a half ago. If someone wants to make rarified conversation about a book, I say General should remind themselves that we're not newgrounds, we're steeped in our smug superior intellectual sophistication, so nut up or shut up.
General This forum is our community place. This is where we talk with each other. It shouldn't be at the bottom. It should have standards, obviously, but we also shouldn't be driving decent folks off to clocktopia or the spam forum by being too uptight and too trigger-happy with the gas button.
- YouWhore - Only if staff members who shall not be named actually use it and don't just say "this is too funny for YouWhore". No, it isn't, everyone thinks that about the stuff they post. Put it in YouWhore you shit.
- Reception Desk - We voted a while back to make a change where new members would have an intoductory period where they would be able to post one thread and get acquainted through that, ask any questions they wanted to ask about the crew, and so forth, but agreed to put it off until after the vb4 shift. I think that it's still an entirely useful thing.
Spam Forum - Redirect to the NG BBS. I'm serious. We need more presence on NG anyway, and they need a swift clockcrew kick in the preteen balls. Hop to it.
I don't have a problem with the subforums but I do think General Discussion should be at the very top. I think we are driving people away who might have come here to sign up by seeming too uptight or something. Hell, I came here after a slight absence and though the General Discussion had just plain been deleted.
You guys should communicate more with us on what you want to see done. The feedback forum is there for a reason and you all have voices, so don't be afraid to use them. If you have something you want to bring up to someone higher up and you don't want to post it in the forum, then by all means, contact me and we can talk about it (and then I'd of course talk about it to the others above me). Even though, I'm really busy with college at the moment I'm usually around so just shoot me an IM, an email, whatever.
Quote from: ButtplugClock;1793267I agree with all of that except for the spam forum.
We don't need a spam forum. Its just General Discussion except a couple rules don't apply, which don't actually hinder anything. If you want to read up they are
here.Oh look, the only thing that isn't really allowed in General is birthday threads, which are stupid anyway. Send them a PM.
Oh look, most of the discussion-worthy threads in the Spam Forum could be moved to General.

It's also where you would put a thread about something people want to talk about but Clam might throw into the Lake of Fire, like an anime topic.

:stubborn:
EDIT: actually it doesn't even matter to me, I just use the new posts button not the forums themselves.
The spam forum has been around for years and gotten good use. It's a nice place to just chill and let loose. I see no reason to get rid of it. If we delete it we delete tons of funny threads we've had in there. Including the CCBT. If you absolutely HAVE to be rid of the spam forum at least merge it with general so the threads are still there. Then rename general "fester's quest".
Please don't kill the spam forum... It's my home...
