Title: Having trouble converting video formats...
Post by: Topcatyo on February 20, 2011, 11:56:37 PM
Hey folkses, I'm having some problems converting video files.  When I got the files, I got them in "Matroska" format (MVK) and I can't play those (or, more likely, don't feel like playing those), so I've been trying to convert them to .AVI format along with my other files in relation to those that I downloaded.

I've been using some freeware called Any Video Converter.  It converts the video fine with no problems, but the problem is with the audio.  Every time it converts, no matter to which kind of video file I choose, the audio very slowly gets off-track where, by the end of the video, it's a second or more off, with more than half the video off-sync.  No matter which audio option I choose, the audio does that or some other weird problem with the video.

Anyone have any idea how I can fix this, or of a better way to convert videos?

Thanks a bunch.

vlc media player should be able to play .mkv files without problem.
Vlc is a piece of shit though, media player classic should work too.
You can also download a codec pack, just search mkv. codec on google.

But maybe the video you downloaded wasn't synchronized in the first place, or maybe you could try another video converter.

The final option of course is to just download a video that isn't in .mkv format.

I use Super for all video format converting. Works most the time

Have you tried it?

Yeah try using VLC if you don't want to go through the headache of converting the file. But if you do want to try to convert it anyway, try using Super (http://www.erightsoft.org/GetFile1.php?SUPERsetup.exe) or even Adobe Media Encoder might do the trick.

I'm giving this Super program a shot now.

If it doesn't work, I'm inclined to ask if anyone would be willing to help a brotha out and convert some files.

I'm pretty sure Virtual Dub will convert them.

Super doesn't even convert the videos right. For some reason it just converts the audio, and the audio is sped up a bunch so that the video, normally 11 minutes, is over in 10 seconds.

Also Zamzar can't handle Matroska format. It was the first site I tried.

Hmm that's odd. Sometimes super acts a bit funky. What about Adobe media encoder?

Handbrake is pretty good at converting as well as ripping.
