Title: midskoo general bug thread
Post by: Biggskoo on August 03, 2011, 01:23:28 PM
well lil fellas i didn't see a thread for general bugs with the forum skin so i'm makin this

i was gonna say that someone needed to fix the link color since it was impossible to read, but that seems to have been taken care of, so i'll start with a current bug:

hitting the "reply to thread" and "reply w/ quote" buttons just brings up the quick reply/quote window and not the advanced window

i know some people use quick reply/quote almost exclusively, but i'm sure i'm not the only one that uses mostly the normal posting form, sooooo... someone should fix dat

not really a bug, but a somewhat minor visual thing:

Not a skin bug but it's kinda related so I'll post it here.

Whenever I try and change any general settings, I get the error message

This may or may not have to do with your cache / cookies. Vbull messed up early this morning with the cookie settings so you may still be coasting off of that. Try clearing cache / cookies please.

Another aesthetic gripe, but the color of basic text in signatures is nearly invisible on the background.

This is a default setting now for vb4.1.4+. At first i tried to get rid of it completely, but there's no way to remove this new-fangled QR box. So all I can do now is bear with it (slowly getting used to it i guess :/).

NIPTIP: You can get to the advanced editor by double-clicking any reply button (or simply by clicking Go Advanced at the bottom of the Quick Reply box).

This is a security question to scan for bots, it's the last input box at the bottom of the page. If you know the answer, you're not a bot.

i know about the double clicking, the point is that it's an unnecessary extra click either way and sometimes that doesn't even work.

plus the quick reply box is a static size it seems like, which is really annoying when you're quoting someone and have to click inside the box THEN scroll down to reset your cursor to start typing.  ideally, clicking reply/quote would re-anchor the page properly to where the reply box shows up (this doesn't currently happen) and then the box would be a reasonable size and not like 4 lines in height.

edit: found the resizable text box marker and it saves the size, don't know if that's a vb thing or a firefox thing.  the re-anchoring being shitty still applies.  plus the cursor should prob automatically set itself to where people start typing in quoted replies.

also just so they're on the record here, a couple other minor things:

- profile pages are really messed up (awards dont display properly at the bottom, weird table borders like where it says 'edit your about me etc.' at the top, some general text color/bg clashes); the customization tab is pretty neat though
- all of the icons for contact info (aim, msn, etc.) are really ugly and they're not even properly transparent (clipping on the edges).  is it possible to fix this skin on this version of vb to match how the dev skin handled all that stuff?  all the icons for aim/msn/twitter/utube/fb/etc. were small, clean and out of the way at the bottom of every post.  i think most people would agree with me that that might have been one of the best parts of the dev skin.

This is mostly a problem that has to do with ckedit (these weird new JS reply boxes) and vbulletin. There isn't much customization yet available for this, but it should come with time.

I haven't had the chance to get to this, but I will eventually.

also just so i'm clear on the functions of the buttoms now...

- the big giant "reply to thread" button(s) at the top/bottom of the column are meant to be the advanced reply button(s)
- the "reply" button underneath each post is meant to be the in-thread quick reply button
- the "reply with quote" button underneath each post is meant to be the advanced quote button

stop me if i'm wrong with any of those, especially since i never cared for the quick reply function and am happy i won't have to adjust to it now.  was the function always without a sort of "quick quote" button, though?  this might be something that others would be worried about.

all of this is correct.

e: I don't think there ever was a quick quote function. Quoting may have always led to the advanced reply page.

Quote from: RibsClock;1834019I dislike that I will often go to a page, not do anything to the text field at all and yet it will still pop up the already annoying notice asking me if I want to abandon changes.

I think this can be fixed by having an admin (Piney) go to Settings > Options > Message Posting and Editing Options > Yes, click required. I'm sure he'll get to it later when he gets home :)

Every skin has this. I think it's vBulletin trying to mend things with version 4.1.5 since everyone hated 4.x when it first came about.

I guess it can be removed if it's really an issue.

The Midskoo background broke for me, not sure exactly when as it has been a while since I've used it. Instead of the gradient background fading into gray like it should, now the background tiles and makes it look not so good.

Yeah, that has to do with the way we set the colors. We're not doing the usergroup html tag thing because it's difficult to get a solid color to work in all skins, all the time (eg. black wouldn't be legible in Olskoo's "who's online").

The colors remain neutral in the who's online bits so that they match the current skin. Names go back to black in postbits since all of our current skins have postbits designed to show black

I know how to fix it, clam, it's just tedious to set it for every skin. What happens when the next administration decides to bring back 15 different colors for every usergroup?

Do you want this done only in devskoo or in every theme?
