This is an untapped outlet with a lot of users. We could easily make a name for ourselves in /r/animation and get a lot of exposure.
Do you have a plan?
Yeah it's called post yer damn movies to /r/animation
We need to post the classics first.
That too.
We should make a Clock Crew account on Reddit (does Reddit use accounts? It basically looks like Digg.com to me) and post some of the better movies to it. We could have members audition their movies to be posted on Reddit.
Here's the thing, reddit's voting system is probably harsher than the portal. Probably best that we all have accounts. Still, it might be a good idea to have one account to post all the classic movies from.
Clock Crew, we run Reddit.
Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?
Are we gonna flood it with spam or actually put some quality stuff on there?
Spam is more fun, because they'll get indignant.
I'm submitting total fucking metal 1 and 2.
Yeah, Reddit is not the NG portal. Munglai could get some good exposure from it, but our spam flashes won't actually be seen by anyone.
lots of spam from the same account of with similar content will quickly get flagged and from then on blocked by the spam filter.
This is true. Some of the weirder stuff might still get some exposure, but outright spam will probably just get downvoted into oblivion.
what's reddit? i live in a box
Reddit, Stoopid, is a content aggregator. It's a list of links and text posts that is based on which subreddits you subscribe to. Check it out, it's pretty cool.
Beware, most people on reddit suck.
Reddit's community is pretty diverse. I'd imagine /r/animation is probably best for the upper-crust of our flash, but some of the other subreddits might appreciate different aspects of the Clock Crew. If you look at the main subreddits, there are a *lot* of idiots that we could be trolling, whereas some of the smaller ones are more sophisticated and often have tighter communities. Also, banning on reddit is nearly non-existent unless it's determined that you're a commercial spammer. The worst you're going to get is downvoted.
Even if we do get downvoted significantly (which I expect we'll have a bit of a buffer against, with our community backing), we can have some visibility, especially if we do something in the vein of duck day or camel day.
There are so many subreddits that it's really hard to pigeonhole reddit as any one particular flavor of site.
I like to think of my movies as barely ever including inside jokes related to Newgrounds. Some clock movies more than other would translate over to Reddit well.
There may be some references to NG in clock movies, but I don't think lack of knowledge of those things would universally make them uninteresting. Most fiction references otherwise unknown worlds and situations, ours just happens to sometimes be based on something that really exists. I love the League and know fuck all about football.
Anyway when I found the CC I thought Newgrounds was Celebrity Slap and Club a Seal. I didn't even know about the portal.
Quote from: RibsClock;1833962Suffice it to say a fair portion of our flash reference the portal, and a fair amount more exist specifically to get a reaction out of dumb people on NG.
Star Wars movies reference the force and most people don't deal with that on a daily basis either. I think if anything it might make it more intriguing by adding to the mystery of clock culture.
I've always been interested in having a consistent backstory and mythos to the Clock Crew because I think it has the possiblity of being really interesting and cool.
I think redditors are idiots for the most part (at least the ones I've come across in real life). This one kid and his silly friends at this pre-college program where I teach tried talking to me in some weird and dumb reddit secret code lingo thing just because I happened to have a forever alone shirt. Then the entire elevator ride consisted of them talking about reaaaaaaaaaaally old memes and other stupid things about the internet blah blah blah I'm just going into a tangent about this dumb kid.
ANYWAY, I don't know if redditors can really appreciate the Clock Crew. I feel like most of them are dumber than the typical NG user :(
EDIT: Did I mention they brought up All Your Base and quoted the whole thing whilst laughing uncontrollably?

You should get rid of that shirt, then.

I've never been on Reddit so I wouldn't know, but that sounds like a pretty hefty accusation.

That's pretty much reddit in a nutshell. They steal ancient content from other communities and make shitty original content themselves, and they beat jokes to death even though they weren't funny to start with. It's kinda like a PG-13 4chan, in that the people think they're hilarious and in some sort of secret club for the intellectually gifted.
Zen you sound like Europeans who meet one fat dude from Texas and decide all Americans are like that. Reddit is a huge site, it gets more traffic than Digg and has for over a year now. Small sites that get a link on the front page frequently get accidentally ddosed by the sheer number of users that view the site. The main subreddits are chock full of idiots and there are plenty of stupid people that read it, but some of the other subreddits are gold mines. Check out http://reddit.com/r/askscience to see what I mean. This is literally a panel of scientists that are there to explain things to you. It takes some filtering (which it's built for), but you can tailor an excellent front page if you take the time, and there are some truely incredible people on that site.
Post it on /r/trees they love everyone
they are also incredibly fucking stupid but hey
EDIT: I have come to hate reddit because I have a ton of downtime at my job and reddit is the only thing to do there. It's so easy to appeal to the hivemind and karmawhore it really is pathetic. I'd say 2/3 of the users of reddit are pseudo-intellectuals.
Quote from: RibsClock;1833978Wait and you think they won't get the clock crew?
Dude it's like comparing a common cold to full blown pneumonia.

Hey now.
I've met multiple fat dudes from Texas!

wellll
I think some of our stuff could translate pretty well, I'd be willing to get in on it.
i think reddit is like the best website ever so that should tell you something yeah
reddit is essentially 4chan lite but there's a few quarters to be plucked from the poopy toilet.

Anything that isn't an auto-frontpage subreddit has the potential to be good.
Now that I think about it subreddits for art and music are pretty good, except for the rampant use of the word 'hipster' that tends to find it's way into them.
The more academic subreddits are un-fucking-paralleled.

Hipster is applicable over a broad spectrum of ideas, tastes, feelings and thoughts that conflict with my own. It's usage is only as 'rampant' as the people of this world allow it to be.
Hipster.
Hipster means you like something because you want to seem cool by not being like the other guys, but still with this other group of guys who totally arent like the other guys trust me.
Apparently, Leek made a subreddit for us. 9 months ago.

looks great cant wait

I'll get on this too in a little bit, this could prove interesting.
We should try and make it so that any flashes that get submitted link to the homepage of this site, or another page greeting Redditors and filling them in on what the ClockCrew is.
Keeping it brief, of course.
reddit is the worst place ever ever EVER EVER EVER

How about that!
Yeah I thought reddit's karma based posting system might be a nice way for the cc community to communicate. Even if it were just for one forum, like the flash showcase.
You can create a reddit forum on
reddit.com, then point it to your own URL to integrate it with your site. You can also apply css styles to the reddit forum.

I wouldn't touch reddit with an 8 1/2 foot pole.

Your loss.
Also it's a 39 and 1/2 foot pole you heel.
I only have an 8.5' pole though.
