Sometimes Big D and the Kids Table goes a little bit hardcore but that's really the only time I enjoy it.

I think Black Flag's pretty coo... Fugazi probably doesn't count but I dig them. And I'm sure Glassjaw doesn't count but I like them too.

i was actually in a little local hardcore band for alittle while because our town has a pretty decent scene. we did a mean Minor Threat's "guilty of being white" cover.

fugazi were formed to be part of a new d.c. scene that was completely separate from the d.c. hardcore scene, mainly because of if founders' frustration about its evolution from angry middle-class/rich kids to violent idiots.

glassjaw are like metalcore which i constitute as part of hardcore culture, esp. since that's the direction every important hc band took since like '84. tbh i haven't listened to them much so i could be wrong but since you like black flag and fugazi and still think they're good, i'm probably right. the only hc subgenres i really hate and refuse to accept as a part of hc culture are new mainstream hardcore and crabcore.

basically, if you have an anchor on your bass, your guitarists' guitars are practically touching the ground, and you do synchronized headbanging/jumping, i hate you and you should go play in a shitty metal band and/or kill yourself.

western mass has/had a pretty good scene. my art teacher from high school played bass in aerosols, did vocals in and wrote some of the instrumentals in viper (who are like blackmetalcore and are awesome) and he also fronted possibly my favorite hardcore band sqrm (the rodeo lp is totally sludgey, get into the '09 demo first). my brother plays in a indie/grunge/whatever outfit and i always come to shows with him and i got to see some really great acts like salvation, coughing fit, and hoax. i could probably spout off more if i weren't in the middle of a female-fronted punk kick right now
