i do it all the time
the most ive ever stretched it was a day past the expiry date
My mom tells me that eggs are still good for weeks after their expiry date, but I don't trust her. I pretty much never eat things more than a day after they expire.
Food by me never last long enough to even get close to the expiration date.
You can check if an egg is still good by putting it in a glass of water. If it lies on its side it's fresh, if it bobs up vertically but remains on the bottom it's still good, if it floats it's baaad.

i tend to use personal judgement on everything, save for milk and meat products. anything past the date i never give a chance.
the day it expires = safe
a day later = under judgement
farther than that = garbage
once upon a time I couldn't tell if some lunch meat was bad but it was 3:30 in the morning so I put some tabasco on it, made a sandwich, popped fargo in the dvd player, and chowed down.
Quote from: RibsClock;1837530Depends on the thing. Most things are sniff-test. Sometimes things like beef you can just stew them if you want to play it safe. Milk generally you smell it and if it's bad you'll know. Other stuff doesn't matter if you freeze it.
Things like raw chicken, however, you want to be careful with.
i made this thread because of mayonnaise and sour cream
they are impossible to sniff test aaaa
you would know when mayo goes bad it smells like a rotting taint and sour cream is basically just gross slop you don't really have to worry unless something is growing on it
man up

no
mayo just smells like a rotting taint
I was putting tiny, little, cut up, mini, cocktail sausages in my chicken wraps for like a month after it's expiry date and it was fine. I do the same for bread when I keep it frozen.
No, never. I'm embarrassingly picky about my food and I'd psyche myself into thinking that I was tasting something disgusting.
before expiry = must eat soon
day of expiry = must eat now
after expiry = depend what food it is. Milk, seafood and somthing that usually grows mold or isn't very safe to eat anyway I wouldn't eat. Stuff like tinned foods that don't actually go out of date and dry foods that you haven't actually made yet I eat anytime.
You guys are all dumb. Every single item of food is safe for at least 3 days after its expiry. The date is just there to cover the extremely rare anomaly. I regularly eat food a week or more over the expiry date. I try to avoid it with more volatile stuff like chicken but generally as long as it doesn't smell food is completely safe.
your breath probably smells awful
Yeah I'm actually kind of anal about this ever since I was served lumpy milk at someones house

your brain probably smells like paranoia
Munglai's mouth smells like feet.
I never look at expiration dates, some food items go bad before the date just because it's been opened, some food stays good basically forever.
With some things, like pork and chicken, I don't take a risk. If I think it's bad, I throw it out. With other things I just take a good look at it and see if it smells any different and I just decide then.
My house-mate manages a shop and brought home shit loads of out-of-date chocolate. The dates were between 6 months and 2 years out of date.
I left my house-mate eating the 2 year old chocolate and I haven't seen him since.
As long as it doesn't smell/look/taste rotten or bad, s'all good.
