One of the first things I decide when I'm starting a new Flash is whether I want to use real recorded voices or not. But I wonder, is it un-Clock-like to use anything but text-to-speech voices? I've gotten some criticism for the movies I've recorded dialogue in, and I wonder where you guys stand on the issue.
i guess if you do it well enough then nobody would really care. otherwise i'd consider it a taboo
i dont like voice acting. internet voice actors suck
i like text-to-speech, but not speakonia exclusively
I think it all depends what kind of tone you want to give to your movie. Real voices fit better with movies with a more serious tone, while Speakonia voices sound goofy and are more effective in random spam funnies. It's just how I see it, though. You go with what seems the most appropriate.
Remember that one of the main aspect of being a Clock is that we don't care what Newgrounders think anyway.
All my recent flash have been sprinkled with real voice acting. I personally like it. I may use speakonia for effect from some characters.

yeah its always cool when you have real voices interacting with speakonia voices btw

The Clock War part III was great with TTS.

this is the kind of thing i was trying to get at
It's fine do whatever you want seriously.
I don't really mind either way. Sometimes text to speech fits the tone of the movie better but most of the time it doesn't matter.
Sometimes I do one voice with my mic and have the rest be text to speech.
I usually always use real voices, but on rare special occasions I'll use TTS voices.
Sometimes voice acting can make a flash way funnier (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/507421), as long as the voice actors know how to be funny. And, since the Clock Crew sometimes likes being funny, this definitely shouldn't be considered 'un-clocklike'.
When I used to do voices for my Clock cartoons, however, my monotone voice-acting was too unfunny to even be considered funny ironically. So, while voice acting can be good, it is definitely NOT for everyone.
I use whatever is funnier.
I vote butts.
Honestly though, I just prefer the convenience of text-to-speech over getting people to record lines for me.

i should make an exception for bb10s sexy greek accent
real voices > text to speech

BilliardBall10Clock is how every clock should sound in every movie.
being clock-like is ass
I usually use text to speech but for like sound effects or something sometimes I'll record myself.
i voted the third option because i've seen both used in some pretty nice flashes.
Just depends on how good they are. I like a lot of Toppy's flashes because of their voice acting like this one (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/528960), but its mostly because I think toppy does good voice acting.
If you've got the talent for voice acting and the equipment to pull it off well then yeah, go for it. But like was said before, it all depends on the tone of the movie.
You can do anything you want. You just have to be good enough to execute it.
(I speak in generality, of course)
TTS is an easier sell because you're generally always going to get the same readings, which you can bend to your intent without hassle, as opposed to working with an actor, who can, intentionally or not, convey a myriad of subtle emotional shifts, which might not be in line with your intent... or which you might merely be too nice to say you can't make use of. (A habit which, while polite, I would like to take this opportunity to gently discourage.)
With TTS, you get an instinctual feeling for a competent way to play it, especially since it's fairly well plonked into the overall perception of clock flashes. You've probably seen a lot of clock movies, and you probably have a general idea, conscious or not, of how they deal with TTS communication. Thus you'll have, theoretically, a natural sense of tone and timing with TTS when you make your own flash. Voice acting doesn't have that luxury. You have to play it carefully.
But, as I said, you can do anything you want, you just have to be good enough to execute it.
We are a small and eccentric herd. What is different must also impress.
difficult, but depends on the movie i guess.
When TTS is used sometimes i dont hear half the stuff that is said, subtitles would be handy.
EDIT : Most of you have these gay teen voices so i would stick with TSS because that shit is way easier on my ears.
It's only good if BB10 does it for you.
But, actually, FU Clock Goes Hunting actually fitted great with voices, it just depends on what circumstance you use them in.
I tweak my TTS voices so they come across a bit more realistic. I dont really have any real experience with voice actors and it would be a pain to get the right one
Honestly, I almost never use the speakonia voices. It's really just a matter of "do what you like."
Somebody needs to feed F U's secret curiosity as to what his Clock Day song (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/577015) would sound like in TTS.
In an ideal world, all Clock movies would be voiced by Krak.
pm BB10 for all your voice acting needs
Real voices are fine. I personally prefer computer voices though
I like voice acting, but hey, either can be good
I always liked when people mixed them together in the same movie.
if u dont use speakonia ur straght up ghey no way around it
first of all to use speaknia u need to be straight so theres that....................................................
It's definitely a stylistic choice. Usually in my high effort movies I'll try to manually alter speakonia voices to get more depth and emotion out of them. If I have non clock characters, I tend to use voice acting to separate them from clocks, making clocks seem like a completely different being. What I want to start using now is vocaloid, now that I've got a pirate copy. It's a bit iffy though.
Real voice actors just don't seem as "clocky" to me. Like, along with the objects with clocks on them robot voices are one of the few things that define clock movies as a genre. I would probably be more receptive if I heard a movie with good voice action in it, which I have yet to see (with the exception of intentionally over the top stuff like Lot of Fries). It's very difficult to do a natural reading of a script, and I fear it's a skill nobody in the clock crew possesses.
It all depends. I've been using real voice acting a lot more lately because I've had some troubles with getting Speakonia to work. With my Pass The Flash 2 part I tried to have real voice acting but I hated it so I ended up using outtakes from Zen Micro and doing a goofy voice for the rest of the characters, so yeah.
It depends on how well you pull what off

I liked the non-goofy voices more :(
Man... I just received my new microphone which i ordered from china. The quality is great, so I can prolly do some shitty ass voice acting too.

uh ok? obv u haven't seen the acclaimed motion picture feature
halo 4: clamel dilemmas...........
I did all the voices in the post-credits sequence..... it's only the best acting on ng but w/e I guess your too "cool" for tat  :jerk: :stubborn:
There's always the possibility of getting real voice acting but saying it robotically with less emotion then adding a bunch of effects like GLaDOS
I've always thought real voices are waaay-hey better and always used em
Quote from: RibsClock;1847209I'd love to do stuff like this. I imagine that Audacity can do it, I expect however that it involves the use of tools within it that I am presently unfamiliar with.
It's apparently quite simple and there are a ton of guides how to do it in Audacity. The main thing is getting a decent voice actor who can do the robotic voice thing well.
*raises hand*
Also Sobe can do a robotic voice as well. I learned it from him.
I can also impersonate Speakonia I guess I dunno I haven't tried it but I'm a trying man so I'd try I guess.
Quote from: RobClock;1847026I liked the non-goofy voices more :(
Also while I appreciate it I was really bugged by the sound of my voice :(
It was like nails on chalkboard, but that was probably because it was
my voice I was listening to.

I would say so, because I rather liked your voice.
No homo.
ab errr--i don't know... tts voices are good and clock-like, but it's not bad breaking the mold, guys!
i mean, i LOVE voice-acting(and hearing it and doing them), and i think it adds much to the emotion of the movie.
just saying.
also, FU-clock, and zen-micro are the best examples of WHY we should have voice-acting as in clock-moviez,fellas.
uhh, also mentos, your voice isn't boring, it's so calm an' soothing, that even when a tragedy happens (like, when
the mentos gets hurt, or when megatron tried to kill pico, in ''pico-day'') it adds a comedic effect.
beeing calm on a storm.
beeing calm on a stormy day. same with radiotube. love him for that.
thinking of it, you guys have similar voices, only mento's is ALOT calmer/relaxed. epic, in my book, honest-ly.
also: topcatyo and pin, and action have hot voices.(FU clock rules. and corpse is v. good! -looking forward working with ye, again! corpsem!- yeah, they-r having hot voice-acting skills.
also rose is good)
ps.clear has one ofppg the sexiest female voices i've heard on the nets. just watch the ''clock of the rings'' by strange
