Title: Questionable / NSFW image hiding codes (and Rule 2 alteration)
Post by: SchnozzberryClock on September 29, 2011, 08:18:59 PM
So I think it's about time we put this hentai debate to rest. Here's a repost of my proposition from another thread:

Quote from: SchnozzberryClock;1860704Here's my idea: We implement a unique IMG BBCode for NSFW material (and another for 'questionable' for things regarding the no-nips argument) and have the image in question hidden behind a thumbnail, prompting users to see it instead of just showing up out of the blue. There could be client side options in the usercp that could disable NSFW (or questionable) image hiding for people who don't care. The only real rule that would have to be enforced would be to make people use these codes.

Additionally we can do exactly what MFC proposed by making Rule 2 less subjective, while not outright banning NSFW pics. So by voting yes on this poll, you'll be agreeing to:

  • Make revisions to Rule 2 clearly stating what images are questionable / NSFW
  • Implement a code that lets users hide questionable pics (scantily dressed, no-nips etc.) and another for NSFW pics (genitals, gore etc.)
  • Enforce rules for the new codes requiring users to hide any image that is questionable or NSFW
  • Allow users to disable hidden images for one or both codes in their usercp to their personal liking

Is this something we can all agree upon?

You should make a poll, boyo
e: Oh you did in the last 10 seconds nice

So two things:

1) sure, who cares (so why not)
2) LMFAO I just thought about the idea of drama over hentai hahahahaha this place is I'm a edgy teen sometimes

I like this idea in that it allows for a customized Clock Crew experience.

Ok but would the staff give punishments for not using these correctly, and what about clam wanting to see the real titties but not the cartoon titties?

If you can't handle accidentally seeing cartoon titties while looking around for real titties then tough titties.

I'm fine with adding the code to thumbnail and hide pics of questionable/ explicit content, but I'd want two things clarified. Would it ever be within the rules to post questionable/ explicit pics without the code, such as in spam forum threads and specifically threads that are related to the pictures in question? It'd seem kinda unnecessary, but I can also understand uniformity. Conversely could we then post anything not forbidden sitewide (illegal porn, gore) anywhere on the site as long as we use the tags? Also obviously I'd want to discuss what distinctions we make to the part about what constitutes questionable/ explicit.

Personally, I figure we may as well enforce it in the spam forum since most of the users who WANT to see it can just enable it in usercp and the only hassle posters have to go through is just adding an additional tag around the image. I didn't bring this up because it's still kind of a tricky ordeal, so I'll leave it up to everyone else and if people don't like the outcome, we can just start another initiative for it.

QuoteConversely could we then post anything not forbidden sitewide (illegal porn, gore) anywhere on the site as long as we use the tags?

No. Even if it can't immediately be seen, it's still illegal, and it's still being posted.

QuoteAlso obviously I'd want to discuss what distinctions we make to the part about what constitutes questionable/ explicit.

We may as well sort this out now. Here's what I consider:

QUESTIONABLE - Barely-covered naughty bits and people boning each other without actually showing any genitals, cartoon or otherwise.

NSFW - Pretty much anything beyond the above mentioned. Exposed nards, scat, guro. That kind of stuff.

Obviously the above needs to be tuned according to general consensus. We may even need more than two categories.

Yeah that's fine. So I'd support adding the option that questionable/ explicit content tagged as such would just be displayed in full if I selected the option.

Quote from: SchnozzberryClock;1860936No. Even if it can't immediately be seen, it's still illegal, and it's still being posted.

Was not arguing that we should be able to post illegal material anywhere. Maybe I worded it poorly, I meant to ask whether we could post questionable/ explicit stuff in any forum as long as we used the tags. I was clarifying that illegal material still couldn't be posted anywhere.

Oh whoops I accidentally skipped over "not" before reading "illegal"

My bad.

This initiative leaves too much in question. First of all who determines what is NSFW enough to even put a tag over it? Second of all this doesn't solve the questionable user pics, and to customize it so each person would have to mark their user pics as questionable or not would be another can of worms. Finally what is considered to be offensive to some may not be so offensive to others.

You're also not determining who gets to determine what is offensive or not. We as a staff already had a definition of NSFW and it was pretty much no genitalia. (It didn't work)

(https://clockcrew.net/talk/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fupload.wikimedia.org%2Fwikipedia%2Fcommons%2Fthumb%2F2%2F21%2FVenus_de_Milo_Louvre_Ma399_n4.jpg%2F200px-Venus_de_Milo_Louvre_Ma399_n4.jpg&hash=3fb93254164a54620e30eeebfb798020798a34e6)

Furthermore under the old rules this would be considered offensive, and I'm sure no boss in the world would fire somebody over this.

So what you're doing is basically putting all the onus on the staff to define something we already defined, and then code a bunch of shit that we don't even know we can enforce. For this reason I voted no. Make something more clear, concise, unified, and with a fuck ton less coding and I'll vote yes.

No, because Piney's already got laundry list of stuff that he wants to code that will actually make the site cool. You guys really want to waste his time on this whiny bullshit that makes the site lame?

You guys make some damn good points.

Come to think of it, I don't think anyone legitimately has an issue about this. This whole debacle started as a trolling effort against anime fans and was really just meant to stir up shit. Now I kinda feel stupid for trying to appease a side that didn't have any real issue to begin with.

Alright, movement disbanded. Go home folks.
