Alright, disclaimer: I apologize if this isn't what people envisioned coming from me or for the collab's final part. I can maybe tweak it if you guys don't like it.

Freakin'... weird. Mine basically adopts whatever is first, so if I put English then Chinese it deletes the English in the entire thing. Chinese first - no English. I solved it actually by just checking the "render text as HTML" button.

So I'm translating a game into several different languages, one of which is Chinese. I've noticed that in a dynamic text box where English characters are included also, they aren't displayed when the .swf is exported. The font is embedded in the document with all characters selected. It seems like whatever language-character is first displayed in the text box, the other language cannot be. For instance, if there are Chinese characters first, then English, the English will not display, and vice-versa. Anybody ever dealt with this, or know what a good fix might be?

Alriiight, so it looks like I'm up. Just so I know, what's my time limit on this thing? I know we don't have much time to compile or what have you.

I'm very impressed with how they managed to squeeze so much into such a small space.

That being said, little to no expandability because of this, 4 USB ports, and it looks... okay, but when I first saw it I thought it was a trash can. I guess I just feel like their "pro" line should be for people who plan to crack open their cases now and again.

There are going to be so many babies coming out of her you won't even believe it.

We went to Saint Lucia for the honeymoon which was p. cool. Everyone tries to sell you shit which is annoying but you can relax in such as hammocks.

Lol thanks dawwwg.

Ring goes on the left hand and F U is right so I'm all set.

Yeah that's probably a way better way to go for this collab. For some reason when I'm having that issue putting them inside movieclips doesn't fix it for some reason.

I wonder if she makes him lick it.

Quote from: PatriotClock;1952408the list if backups isn't in any order. We picked topcatyo first the other time we needed backup.

also if anyone has any idea why my sound isn't synced in the second half of my part I would love to fix it but idk what's wrong

I've actually had a lot of sync issues before, and though it goes against all conventional wisdom and logic, try putting all of the sound on event instead of stream. It usually fixes it for me. Now that may not help you in the long run of this collab, but it's worth a shot to test it out.

General Discussion / Windows 8 a good thing to buy?
June 02, 2013, 07:49:44 PM
Quote from: SilverClock;1949750Well actually, I think it's the fact that people try Windows 8 out at Best Buy or wherever they go to get their pre-built computers that's really doing them in. Everyone who works at those stores and at college campuses always talk about having to help people figure out how to use Windows 8 and in the end none of them leave feeling enthusiastic about using it again. Which is exactly why they turn and run to the nearest Apple Store to buy whatever useless garbage they're shoveling out next (I've never cared for Macs, I don't find them fun.) since Windows 8 makes them learn all the basics over again.

I also don't think I'd say Windows was ahead of any curve this time either. They saw tablets were selling so they went "WELL I GUESS WE COULD SELL TABLETS! WE'LL MAKE THEM 10X BETTER!" and decided to force a tablet OS onto desktop PC's and video game consoles and no one cared at all. Regular users see no reason to upgrade to Windows 8 and jump through hoops to do basic functions, casual users don't want to learn how to use a OS in a new format, and PC sellers don't like not having money. That's why Windows 8 is selling just as well as Windows Surface, Windows Tablet, Windows phone, and the Windows brand underwear. Not very much.

All of this makes me feel a little upset, because I absolutely adore Windows 7, it's what I use, and I loved the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live when it first came out, but lately it seems all Microsoft is doing is crapping in their hands and rubbing it all over everything. It's sad times for Silver Clock.

We just had a dialogue about computer OS's on the internet without screaming at each other.

General Discussion / Windows 8 a good thing to buy?

Quote from: SilverClock;1949728Well, see the difference is young girls buy One Direction tickets and computer nerds deal with OS's. So far all the computer nerds don't like Windows 8 at all and casual computer users are starting to go with Apple just to avoid buying a new computer with Windows 8 on it. In fact computer manufacturers have even expressed their dislike of Windows 8 because it's making them lose sells. No one wanted a tablet OS for their home computers, yet Microsoft went ahead and did it anyway. Just like with the Xbox One, Microsoft thought they could make people like something and it didn't work out for them at all. There really is no reason to go with Windows 8 when you have Windows 7 for about the same.

Most people on message boards who complain about OS's usually pirate theirs so they have no reason to think about it from a monetary stand point.

I guess that's sort of why the hate for Windows 8 makes me cringe, because the nerds bash Windows 8 for fairly complex reasons, and it trickles down to the casual user as a sort of general aura of badness around the OS even though it would be fine for what they want to do. Meanwhile senseless praise for Apple by people who say things like "It just works!" gets tossed around and so the casual user goes for it because they don't understand the ramifications of one computer manufacturer being in complete control of their product and not allowing you to, say, built your own system. (note: I use Apple products at work and I enjoy them I am not starting some kind of flame war I actually considered getting an iMac don't yell at me)

I'm a rare breed of designer who prefers Windows machines, so a lot of the changes in Windows 8 are totally gravy with me. Microsoft was ahead of the design curve for once in their life with a flat-design UI, and I think metro is everything MS hasn't been for years - minimalist, beautiful and forward-thinking as opposed to reactionary. I dunno, I just feel like they can do no right. But I guess people did beat off to Windows 7 so they hav their ups-and-downs.

General Discussion / Windows 8 a good thing to buy?

Quote from: MiracleFruitClock;1948998i think the general public has a decent enough notion of what sucks and what is worth getting.

Man the general public does things like buy One Direction tickets in droves and makes Michael Bay movies hugely successful. People hate change and that's why the box office is crammed with sequels. I'm not even saying Windows 8 is good or bad, just that many people who get on message boards to complain about it are just 7 users trying to justify not upgrading, and haven't actually used 8 once.
