My friend's laptop cannot start up. Every time it does try to start up, it just reverts to the black "windows cannot start- repair/start normal"

The thing is, it absolutely refuses to cooperate. Last Known Good doesn't work, I cannot use a restore point, and the Recovery DVD i burned only turns up an installation error when it tires to load up.

The system is a Dell Inspiron 1525, probably with stock components, and Windows Vista 32-bit.

Any ideas, guys?

Holy shit. even on this little dumpy tablet pc that forces me to play at 1024X768 with everything turned down to low, holy shit.

and the story went from holy shit to HOLY SHIT to FFFFFFFFFFFF to wait-what all over the goddamn place.

Plus ENEMIES FUCKING EVERYWHERE, and those damned shield enemies. Fuck those guys. I died like eight times before i could properly fight them: hint, either flank, aim for their arms, or flashbang.

But yeah. It was one hell of a ride.

So i unpack all my thingies for college, including my externals. My I drive works fine, as it should, but k:\ decides it's being a little bitch by not being recognized by windows.

I wonder what's wrong with it. After all, it's software inside it should automatically have windows recognize-

and then it hit me like a shock. The onboard software wasn't working because i REMOVED it after i installed it on my tower rig at home (to save a negigable amout of space), and never bothered to check to see if this drive worked on this little laptop that i'm typing on now. And now, i've got a 640GB drive that's as good to me as a large paperweight. Goddamnit.


TLDR windup left important shit at home and now he's stuck with a 640 GB paperweight, and emailed Western digital for help.

I've pretty much been gone all this week on vacation up at Cambridge MA visiting someone. Fun times. Saw seals, ate shellfish, bought a stikfa and a lobster finger puppet, saw a Naboo starfighter. Good times.

So, how was everyone's week? Did everyone make their clockday flashes? I made mine, but i feel kinda bad because i only had approx 2 hours to slap it together on my tablet PC, and i've hit a large artists block after i made it. So, i've been better.

My K:\ Drive decided to give me a scare by showing about 200gigs worth of data (FLAs, pictures, movies, music, etc etc) going up in smoke. Poof. I swigged about 1/16th of a 2-liter bottle of Pepsi as i prepared for damage control, only to find out that it was all "lol, j/k your data's still there tee hee!"

Now i have a caffine rush and a very string urge to bash it in the side with a sledgehammer. Heck, I think the only reason why it started working again was because i verbally threatened physical violence against it.

K:\ keeps giving me trouble. He's nowhere near as well behaved as his smaller brother I:\. I:\'s already loaded and unloaded at least 500gigs of data without making a peep, the occasional heat slog nonwithstanding, while i have to keep an eye on k:\ to make sure he doesn't get into any more trouble.

This is not the first time he's threatened me with data loss. I've counted at least 2 other incidents where he was all like "ur data's gone lolololol," and he actually did wipe out a good chunk of image data. Thankfully it was replacable, but i worry if he's going to get serious on more important data.

Does anyone else have this kind of problem, and possibly a way to make it more cooperative, besides taking it out of the dam casing and shoving it inside the desktop tower?

Dear god, the caffine rush! GODDAMNIT LOKI! (I call it Loki because of all the horrible tricks it plays against me, it has no relation to the clock who i think is a really nice guy.)

2:21AM EST is not the best time to be sharply awake.

I just unboxed, decrapped it, secured it, and installed Photoshop.

Now i need to install flash, and then we're cooking! I'm so excited!

sure it's HP, and the touchscreen has no sensitivity and it's tempermental due to the heel of my hand touching the taskbar, but still, TABLET! YAY!

SO i realized that when i open up a particular folder, it registers as empty. Nothing shows up on it, no icons, no thumbnails, nothing.

Yet when i access a file from Downthemall! on it, the picture pops up. It's there, but for some reason i can't see it.

Now this is strange.

It's on the portable drive, k:\, a Mybook 640GB external.

Its price is around $899 USD after rebate. I guess that's not TOO bad.

Except it's HP. And the graphics card, while adequate, may not handle next-gen games like Mechwarrior.
