Quote from: clockradioclock;1920804Neat app!

What kind of tech is it built upon?

Codeigniter framework in AWS, 4 models, 2 views (and some tiny includes). Continuous integration via Git.
Only 4 db tables in RDS (storing results as not to overload Google, tracking rate limiting, etc).
Heavy usage of APC, mild use of Varnish.
Cloudflare proxy.

For the front end. It's a rather raw usage of highcharts (very dirty js) and the latest bootstrap.

I borrowed some code from a similar weekend project I did a while back: http://agilegit.com

I started writing a forecast algorithm/model before I had to stop myself.. Maybe when I get bored again, I'll have it predict the next year, etc.

The fall of newgrounds is inevitable... It's due in large part to the rise of youtube and facebook (if you compare the slopes).

Some words don't show up because Google has an internal limit of so many searches per week, before they allow that data to be pulled... It's a privacy thing.

It always annoyed me that google trends let me only do 5 terms at a time, and Insights is far less precise.
So yesterday/tonight I made this google trends thingie...

It totally violates the google trends system since they don't have a real API, so it will likely implode when it reaches their internal rate limiting. Till then, enjoy.

Quote from: IronClock;1918761Most likely the ownership will shift to the entirety of the cc staff and not just one person. Also we have a grid thread for this so not sure why this is here

Nobody told me, so... *shrug*

Quote from: RobClock;1918755I take it, then, that we're not using .cc's donation money to run it?

How it's funded is a different decision... this is who I will be handing over all login and account credentials to.

See this thread.

So far the following have come forward with a desire to help.

Right now I just need an owner, someone to hand the keys over to. Who they choose to fix it up and make it more awesome is up to them.

Help me choose... And because polls are fair and balanced ;)

anyway i can chip in and we can also dip into the funds to help keep it afloat. also i vote to have crc maintain it along with me and clam and anyone else who can code a php or 2

I love imgur, and it's one of the goodies. I could recreate it in a week (no doubt better), but it's sort of unique and I'd hate to compete.

Quote from: clockradioclock;1918633I didn't know Cloudflare worked so well.

hmm, is there any way we can increase revenue with this thing? Paid accounts for those who'd want them, ads at the bottom of direct-link pages (as illustrated here), some kind of chrome extension for easy uploads, a shorter URL that also acts as an advertising agent (eg: //frogb.ag (for $90/yr, yikes)), ????.

There are a lot of things that could be done (and if you like I'll list them), but I doubt it will ever be monetarily successful. The business model of image hosts is not an easy thing to make work.

And about Cloudflare... this is one of those perfect-use-cases for something like their proxy, since the vast majority (95%) of all traffic is from the most recent/popular SWF uploads... Single files that are easily offloaded to the cloudflare CDN.

Quote from: clockradioclock;1918621Is shared hosting really capable of handling the # of requests you get? I always thought you'd need some kind of VPS or something more.

What kind of revenue are you currently generating with ads (if any)?

I hope my questions aren't too forward, but I assume it's important to get some numbers in so people can figure out how much of the cc funds they'll need to dig into per year.

I've offered to take up the project before, and I'm still up for it if anyone needs a hand with the code. I can help with PHP, Javascript (also Node and jQuery), HTML5, and CSS3. Myfrogbag is full of clock history and I'd hate to see it go.

It is shared hosting, but I am pretty certain that myfrogbag is eating the lion's share of the box it's on. It handles it easily because a) the program is rediculously simple, and b) Cloudflare is acting as a free CDN to the frequently accessed files, saving gigs of bandwidth a day.

It has earned a grand total of $71 in it's lifespan... It has had 800 unique users in the past month, but the click through rate is so tiny that you might as well not count it.

somebody who knows what they're doing would have t operate tho

Yea, it is an account that's grandfather'd in so that it is totally abusing their "unlimited" policy.

Also it has Cloudflare in front of it to keep the bandwidth manageable.

Quote from: RobClock;1918602what's the cost on keeping it up?

It's with bluehost.com, so you can see their pricing.

It's from $4.95 to about $10.00 depending on how many months you pay for in advanced.

Unless someone upstanding is willing to take the reigns by then.

I know I said the same thing a few months ago, but nobody really stepped up with a definite yes.

You will be applying to be owner and operator. There are no perks (except that you could spy on people's uploads I guess). It will cost money to run, but very little.

General Discussion / Myfrogbag for sale - $10.00
February 08, 2012, 11:34:37 AM
I got several people pinging in a few weeks ago when myfrogbag.com went down due to an error on my part.

I have no time nor desire to keep maintaining it. Honestly, some of the photos on it could become a legal liability and I don't want to be responsible for this.

Since that hosting expires soon (I have been renewing annually), and will require renewal in the next couple weeks, I need to know who's going to take over. It's a very cheap thing to host. It's about $10/mo (cheaper if paid annually). I enabled CDN support recently and it's running far faster than before, reducing bandwidth constraints by a factor of 5+, but the code needs some work. I have spent good money to transfer some unused domains off of that host, but now nobody is contacting me about who to transfer ownership to... so...

To be clear, I don't want anything from this, I just want to get it put into someone else's hands right now. Preferably someone who can fix it's issues and take care of it. I have far too many other services to maintain/build and this is my least favorite.

Quote from: clammo;1891428tom isnt going to give you 200gb of server space. we didnt even have enough space to keep a backup of all 6 years of posts

Not a problem, you can keep it on the existing host. It's very inexpensive.

Quote from: RibsClock;1891405I'd love to get it integrated with our library somehow and transferred over to the NG server and become our own personal bwahaha machine but I suspect that's a really, really complicated proposal

That's doable. First step though is for me to transfer ownership of the hosting/domain package. What happens to it after that it totally up to you guys.
