always thought it was funny that pcat had an ICQ messenger badge in the postbit like haha an instant messenger service that has assigned 9-digit ID numbers instead of usernames, how quaint

2013: MSN Messenger eaten by Skype
2017: AOL pulls AIM off life support
2023: ICQ still apparently ICQin

my old password doesn't work though what's up with that

young Batman: (turns head)

young Batman: noooo! you bitch! you bitch!!
(teen shoots both of Batman's parents and drives off)

Quote from: RobClock on December 25, 2023, 08:04:20 AMEvery super hero movie is an origin story. Specifically, every Batman movie has his origin story in it. Everyone loves Batman, and there's a new Batman movie every couple of years that inevitably has Bruce witness his parents death.

currently working on wrangling the rights to release a straight-to-DVD Batman movie where young Batman just keeps walking into different variations of his parents being killed

I was hoping A24 would pick it up but they said capes aren't really their thing

Quote from: VCRClock on September 23, 2023, 08:55:01 PMaccidentally fucking middle clicked the new tab and it closed

can't believe i never thought to google this problem

did i find a solution? no, not anything less complicated than adding an abandoned browser extension

but i did find out that pencil neck nerds have been having a wikipedia-style bitchfest about it for years instead of adding a "don't close tabs on middle click" option (even a hidden one) to firefox

guess i'll just have to keep accidentally closing tabs for the rest of my life

fresh install got me feeling like rip van winkle

'oh hm well I guess that isn't a default package I'll just install it hey aptitude'
'who's aptitude'
'uh it's like a terminal based package manager that literally has minesweeper built into it, how do you manage packages then'
'uh synaptic'
'alright synaptic then do your stuff'
'WELCOME TO PACKAGE MANAGEMENT! PACKAGES ARE LIKE SOFTWARE. FOR YOUR PC. WOULD YOU LIKE TO HOLD HANDS Y/N'

postig from linux rescue usb

my big upgrade from not properly following a release in sources.lst to latest stable release has caused a problem where i can't get anything GUI to launch anymore and i'm not savvy enough to find out why that is

well, guess i've "maintained" this installation for 10 years, that's a good run, a real lumberjack sysadmin probably wouldn't do this to an important server but i gotta play the cards i'm dealt

rsyncing my shit to an external drive and i guess i'm gonna do a fresh install where i lose all the little things like application preferences

debian again? is that braindead? should i just do ubuntu or manjaro or something

now on some distributions of Linux, when you want to update your software, you go into your package manager and check for updates, then if there are updates you install them

debian's a little like that, but you also gotta remember that if you want the new software, every two years or so you gotta open /etc/apt/sources.list and type 'I WANT THE NEW SOFTWARE' [esc] :wq.

emoji were more fun before software vendors realized they were a minefield of competing nuances and tried to be better about standardizing expressions

you can probably guess which set i ride for

obviously the problem with deviating too hard from a standard expression is that you send someone a simple 😬 in an awkward situation, and they might end up with a fucked up Samsung grimace that wants to bite their face off, but the flip side of the coin is that you can't send a fucked up Samsung grimace to anyone who doesn't have a Samsung

dang ol, pullin in John Lasseter to help codify what emotional facial expressions should look like, talkin bout all the megacorporations tryin to make their lil faces look the same but different, new world order one world digital currency typa stuff, man

everyone's internet is absolutely fast enough to send somethingawful emotes in text messages. bet that'd take up less bits and bytes on your phone storage than svgs of the committee-designed most unambiguous version of every emotion ever, plus the shit like 🎴 and 🔏 that's only fun because nobody ever uses it

idk maybe we don't even use the angry ones (except for where the anger is directed at a party that is Not reading the comments) because choosing to show anger as anger makes us lose credibility. you see all kinds of catty prescriptive people calling people buffoons with a side of 😒 cuz that's how angry they're allowed to be and still look cool

Quote from: RobClock on November 25, 2023, 06:49:02 AMand I paid for the premium hosting on neocities so I could link my domain to it directly but I can't figure out how to do that

hey this is something i know

obligatory reddit post where someone is asking how to do it appears to contain the IP address you need, but neocities should also have given you that somewhere

i whoised your domain and it looks like dynadot is your registrar? if so: login to dynadot...
- my domains > manage domains
- kaijuturtle.com
- first line in settings is DNS Settings
- select Dynadot DNS
- record type 'A', IP address or target host = Neocities' IP
- i guess also put in the other records from that reddit post if you wanna be thorough

i do not know anything about roofing in the dark when it is freezing sorry

you say 'that place up the street' and I think 'oh he must mean pizza hut'

if I were carjacked at a stop light and the gunman said 'i won't steal your shitty car or kill you if you'll just drive me to the nearest place with alfredo pasta that isn't fucking pizza hut' I think I'd have to get out of the car

the printer even had paper in it haha awesome
#37
i wish i had something fun and interesting to share here but i don't

i got a new printer though

laser printers are expensive, but that don't matter to the thrift store. i got a 2016 model for 50% off $8. all i need is shifty ebay open-box toner, which cost about the same as my last trip to the copy shop, and i will never again have to deal with my inkjet cartridge drying out after i've only used it twice in a year

ok the answer is:

not man

where did you get that dumb ass idea
when did I say 'morning' 'noon' and 'night' were metaphors for stages of life? oh yeah, never

the correct answer is: many chairs do, or any animal (NOT MAN) that has four legs

they have four legs in the morning. it's true that they also have four legs at noon and night, but if you ask a warthog at noon "hey buddy do you have two legs I could borrow" it'd say yeah, because four is more than two. ditto for evening, if you have four legs, you have three legs plus one to spare
