til Frog and Toad and The Wind in the Willows have basically nothing to do with each other and are completely different stories from different authors in different eras and countries, they just each happen to have a character who is a toad named Toad so my brain decided they're the same thing

actually, in case you do want to do that, other non-intuitive stuff:
• hold Q then hit spacebar to see your quest stuff (which, in Monkey Island mode, means Monkey Island stuff)
• press X to drop whatever your holding, if you need your weapons / to pick something else up

I guess that's it, minus that there is one actual Sea of Thieves-style ship battle at the very end of the last chapter (though I don't THINK you can lose it... if nothing else, avoid rocks and the NPC will do the cannons for you)

any island you can wake up (ie log in) on has a lady on the beach in a tent where you can start a """"tall tale"""" ("""quest""") where you're still playing Sea of Thieves, but it sends you to an instanced Melee Island (which does not necessarily have to be singleplayer, but I mean, if you want a Monkey Island do it alone)

There's a lot of tell-don't-show where they try to tie it into the Sea of Thieves plot (SoT is pirate heaven and Guybrush was supposed to go there but did not) at the beginnings and ends of each chapter, but the juicy middle part is you running around with your Sea of Thieves loadout* and your Sea of Thieves ship is parked at the dock, but then it's a first person Monkey Island game in that medium


*somewhat annoyingly, you do need a sword. Other slashing items won't work for some of the scripted interactions

but yeah, 130 gigabyte download aside, there's a free monkey island game that i feel like most monkey island fans haven't even heard of

if you care about plot, you can glean most of it from the FIRST CHAPTER of the pirates of the caribbean crossover quest (don't do the later chapters, jesus) but you really could just do the tutorial, log in to the main game (even on "Safer Seas" (no PvP)), and talk to the lady at her tent to start Monkey Islanding. I guess technically you talk to the book next to her to start

there is a whole single* player Monkey Island game in Sea of Thieves and it's honestly not shorter than the first game, and aside from one swordfight in act 1 and, tragically, needing to know how to manage an entire ship Sea of Thieves style at the VERY end, you can almost just hop in, play it, and then delete Sea of Thieves

man that was weird

got a knock on the door. was two HUGE angels (the perceivable kind, at least. looked like really strong humans) (wings tho) wearing high-vis vests and hardhats. one was holding a clipboard

'hey, just letting you know we're doing some work in this neighborhood. we'll try to keep the noise to normal working hours but sometimes we gotta do nights, should take a decade or two'

i mean i've been working from home with the window open but it sounds like whatever they're working on is important so i wasn't gonna interrupt, but the angel went on to explain that everyone who's died in my neighborhood in the last 200 years is just gone. something wrong with the afterlife right here, but they're aware and are gonna start fixing it in august or so


this is excellent news because i'm pretty sure i'm not gonna die until my 80's. no need to move
