Baldurs Gate Remade

So apparently Dragon Age Baldur's Gate is getting remade:

They are trying to update the graphics and all that. They are keeping the old development team as well as adding some more people. I think it looks interesting, I always played Dragon Age in the overhead view so I'll probably try this when it comes out.

Oh man, Baldur's Gate 2 was my favorite RPG back when I was really getting into PC RPGs. It will be nice to be able to revisit it, since games that old don't work on modern computers and DOSbox isn't a perfect solution.

I tried to get into baldur's gate before but was unable to enjoy the horrible combat system. It would be nice if they modernized it a little so I can enjoy the story. At the very least they couldn't make the combat any WORSE if they tried.

I feel the same way. It's being produced by a company called "Overhaulgames". Have you ever heard of these guys? I sure as hell haven't. Apparently the only other game they've made is some crappy 3rd person shooter game. They don't even have a wikipedia page yet.

I recall that this company is supposed to have members of the original Baldur's Gate production team though, so there's still hope.

If it's the exact same game with the exact same gameplay, story, and all that good stuff then sure, it'll be brilliant. BUT as with most game updates they're bound to stupidity and will change something that will either dumb it down for current game audiences, or just make it an unplayable mess. Thus my previous statement; It'll be shit.

But that game you linked is actually an HD remake of an old, kind-of-crappy, kind-of-ridiculously-awesome 3rd person shooter. It might just be because I played the original a shit ton as a kid, but MDK2 definitely has its moments. It also uses the same engine as Tony Hawk I think. Annnd checking the wikipedia page, that game was actually made by Bioware wtf.

Anyway, I'm basing the fact that the remake is crappy on the absurdly low metacritic score. Less than 80 is pretty much reserved for pure garbage when it comes to videogames, since the review standards are all fucked up by paid reviews. Obviously I have not played it.

If you get a chance to try the HD remake you should tell us if it stays true to the original. That's the most important thing, really.

That makes sense that Overhaul and not Bioware made MDK2 since it was rather unpolished. Well now I'm even more worried about this Baulder's Gate remake. This could be interesting, I don't know how fans would react to a shoddy BG remake.

I also tried to play this recently and honestly I just found it to be too dated for my standards. Had I played it when it originally came out I might've been a bit more inclined to stick with it.
