Opening Statement:
Ken Ham cannot be trusted as all Australians are crooks and liars.

I await your rebuttal. Also: butts.

Bill really wasn't trying hard enough out there. It felt like he thought the dude would actually listen to evidence and facts when his entire argument goes against one of the most basic tenants of science.

Good, but how do you debate a person who will not listen to evidence or facts? What would you do in Bill's shoes?

And why was there not a lightning death round?! With more blood, and death! I wish I lived in ancient Rome sometimes.

Marlin Clock

Don't debate them. There was this really douchy writer for Richard Dawkins that talked about why he shouldn't, and despite the really condescending parts he made a pretty solid case.

the best part of the debate is when it ended and you could hear some ladies going "BILL! BILL! BILL! BILL! BILL!"

Nye was mellow and respectful and sincere... to a fault? Australian fruit cake guy was respectful, too, on the face of it, but was throwing some major rhetorical douche boomerangs, arguing from authority, establishing false dichotomies, denying the antecedent, begging the question; there's a point where your opponent is being flagrantly dishonest and arguing in bad faith and needs to be called out. OTOH Nye was out of his depth on the theological side. When he was talking about Noah's Ark not sinking, there's a pretty clear and obvious theological justification in that. I had to pause the stream and go look it up, but, yeah, when Jesus calmed the storm, he basically told his followers he didn't even need to do that, because they were never in any danger. A lot of the rationalist interpretations of Biblical events don't take the divine element into account, so there's a communication disconnect.

I would have liked to have seen somebody from the Pontifical Academy of Sciences take on this bro job. this "debate" needed somebody better equipped to take on the blatant theological misdirection he was pulling with his absolutist American-Protestant interpretation of Christianity, which Nye only addressed from a distance as being quite small on a global scale.

HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU WERENT THERE

ham totally fucked it up because he didnt realise that his counter argument of you werent there is equally true for himself

As Renegade said, he's Australian, but otherwise your point still stands. I do like that whenever a Catholic believes in creationism I can whip out the catechism and tell them the Pope is on my side.
