Heh, Helvetica Standard is a really weird part of it. It's generally a gag comedy show, and helvetica standard is a segment where it shows really dark gags, usually meant to throw you off since it's so different from the rest of the show. It's pretty funny and fantastically animated. Crunchyroll's got it streaming if you wanna take a look.

It's not terrible neckbeard pandering at all.

Which is probably why it didn't do too well in Japan. (also the DVD prices were ridiculous).
