I really want to put together something where artists can come together and do some collaborative projects with music. For example, I know Yo-yo had mentioned something about trying to get a chiptune cd made with some people from clock crew together. I thought idea might be a good way to get everyone together and learn some technique as well as find out some good vst plugins and programs. The only problem that I thought of was the amount of difficulty it would be to get files shared amongst the artists. Since I'm an FL Studio user, I have collab, but as I mentioned a while ago, I can not get it to work. So I thought, "Well emailing each other the .flp files (or whatever file extension you save your projects as) should work." The only problem is that is too time consuming. Then it hit me, what if we had a section of the site set up where artists can directly upload their projects for others to download and work on. There would of course have to be a time limit as to how long the file could be on the server (let's say a week or so).

I think this would benefit a lot of people on here who want to get into music or who want to learn some new things. It would happen every saturday night (sort of like the CC Academy).

So what are your opinions on this matter?

LeekClock

We ought to have little weekly audio challenges like the foto fandango

Drakolan

weekly audio challenges? Interesting concept, or the collabs even.

How would we do the collabs though? Someone post a sample or a sound or a theme, then everyone do a 30 seconds to a minute of something?

ChocolateCoffin

I request a weekly music competition! or bi-weekly.

SixShooterClock

I say monthly, and the winner gets a golden mustache on their avatar for the month.

Hrm. Composer Acadamey?

That'd be rough though, audio isn't like flash, where everyone is using the same software, we probably have everything from Fruity Loops to Pro tools going on here.

(not to mention all the random plugins everyone has and loves)

ChocolateCoffin

Topics could be based on theme, or music genre.

AC Slater

Yes, it wouldn't be about what tools a person has to create music, but their musical composition skills instead. We could break it down into two categories: Most Creative, and Best Compositional piece.

I like the monthly idea also.

Drakolan

So composition lessons...

One idea, in my undergrad the teacher would have a project every so often where he would write a short theme and all of his students would write their own variation on it.

AC Slater

I still really want to do this badly. I suppose I should talk to Leek eh?

SpinningCubeClock

I have an idea. For collab, why don't we all get a certain number of loops we can use, then compose something 30 seconds to a minute with those loops, and a limited number of tracks of original stuff? Just to make it fair.
hello

LeekClock

Collab seems too restrictive. I like the variation on a theme idea.

HachezClock

I say the theme variation thing. I want to do this.

AC Slater

Then let's get this together asap.
