There's a world where all of civilization is contained within one massive walled city, and there's noone alive who ever actually saw the outside of it. The main character is a materials engineer who designs body armor for the police, and he goes on a journey to find what lies beyond the city, after the mysterious death of a friend (the friend is a high-ranking police officer, who's assassinated by the governor's private militia because he knows to much. When the main character goes to the friend's house to console his widow, she hands him the man's journal, which is full of government secrets, including the existence of life beyond the city).

Early on in the book, the journey is pretty simple; he just travels in a relatively straight line trying to get near the edge of the city (and meets interesting characters, does things, etc.). In the chapters where he's reached the outer edge of the city, he tries to find out what the locals (keep in mind the city is larger than some countries) have heard about life ouside the city. Eventually, the police find out that he's trying to escape the city, and post a bounty on him. There's an epic confrontation between him and the bounty hunter that killed his best friend, then he assumes the bounty hunter's identity and pulls some sort of stunt involving stealing high-powered equipment from the government and blowing a huge chunk out of the wall.

After he escapes he evades the police, and finds shelter in the home of a hermit who escaped 50 years earlier. The man tells him that if he wants the police to leave him alone, he has to transform himself into a new person. He tells him of a lake that has magical properties, allowing anyone who drink the water to alter reality (to a degree).

When he arrives he drinks the water and modifies his appearance. Then he notices the fish in the lake and gets an idea. He gives himself gills and swims to the bottom. Inside the lake he finds a portal to one of infinitely many other universes. He enters and finds out he has supreme (god) powers over the new universe.

If it's not 50k words by then it'll go into the creation of the universe (and maybe even his own attempts to stop its residents from escaping to yet another universe)

That alone was 400 words, so 1600 words/day (approx. equal to 50k words / month) is starting to look possible.

EDIT: The squirrel warrior reminds me of Watership Down. Boston, you might want to read it for inspiration.
I'dlove to do this but I don't have the time to.

For Aaron Martel, his entire life has been based around a few simple truths:

1. The between what's right and wrong.
2. How to tell between the good guys and the bad guys.
3. That those who live to serve are good and honorable and
4. Always be loyal to your honor and stay honorably loyal - the Martel family motto.

His grandfather, Paul Martel, was a founding member of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. A good, honorable man who's fierce loyalty and strong sense of justice serves as Aaron's moral compass. His mother, Alicia, was a highly talented agent, along side her husband and Aaron's father, Ike. Even after Alicia was killed in the line of duty, Ike raised his two sons, Aaron and Chris to aspire to pursue justice and follow in their father's footsteps. In such a short time, Aaron's older brother Chris became an agent of high distinction, and Aaron was not far behind, as one of the youngest agents in FBI history. Aaron had a good life going, a steady girlfriend, a job he likes getting up for, and doing it in Houston, Texas, that steamy bayou city he loves so much. Life could not get any better.

In one night, it all comes crashing down....

In one night, all Aaron knows will be turned upside down -  the rules he lives by, the life he knows, even down to his own sexuality. A mysterious group financial investors called the X-7 group are gathering deep in the heart of Texas. Well-known terrorists who seemingly keep escaping Ike Martel's grasp. In what starts out to be yet another attempt to take down X-7, Ike brings Aaron along as a partner. What Aaron finds goes well-beyond his wildest beliefs. Corruption will test his beliefs. Betrayals around every turn will destory his trust. Aaron Martel, code named the Cowboy, will either rise above the overwhelming adversity or be sucked away by evil and corruption....

Here is a taste of the prologue:

"Hmmm? Oh hello...didn't think to see you here...You know, I still wonder how I wound up here...When I woke up three mornings ago, I had no idea I'd be here today, but then, no one really knows what the future holds, do they? Psychics are full of shit, prophets are full of shit, bible codes, Nostradomous, Miss Cleo - all full of shit. They say the only sure things in life are death and taxes, but I've known people who don't pay their taxes. Have you ever met anyone has never died? If you meet the real Highlander, give me a call. Three days ago, everything seemed so....sure. I never had to question anything, everything was what is was and nothing more. I truly had no clue. I take it you're here to listen to me ramble on are you? Fine, I've got nothing better to do right now.

When you wake up in the morning, the first thought in your mind after "I need to take a piss" and before "I'm hungry" is "what am I going to do today?" I had it all planned out - report to work by 8 a.m., work behind the desk till it's 8 pm and time to call it a day. This was my word, the world I know, the world knew was coming complacent. It's amazing just what a night will do for your perspective.....
If you ain\'t Clock, you ain\'t Texas! B bless us all!

FFfF, I haven't started anything for it yet and would likely not finish or get bored halfway through. I would, although, like to participate next time or in some other writing thing perhaps.

It doesn't start until November, so you have plenty of time.

I'm not entirely sure yet.

It might do something  like this: there's a being of some sort who is just there is space. not very big or small but it doesnt matter. He doesnt remember how he got there or why, only that he considers himself to be the pinnacle of logic and understanding, although in reality he is a bit of a naive prick, although he is quite intelligent, mathematically. He is floating about in nothingness calculating the probability that anybody would discover him or even if there exists anybody else but himself, when a ship turns up and almost hits him. in pity, the crew of the ship let him on board.

the story results in his interactions with the crew, keeping in mind that as far as he remembers, he has never had any contact with any other life forms. It also centres around him developing a desire to find out why the hell he was floating out in space and where he came from and his adventure as he tries to find out.

I have no idea where that might lead, but its a start and I'll almost definately come up with the whole story as I go along

I think mine will be about some guy who starts to think that his life is a reality show (yes, The Truman Show, I know, but I don't plan to have it like that). Throughout the whole store, he'll be borderline psychotic, so you can't really tell if he's just imagining all of this, or it's actually real. I'm thinking that he kills himself at the end to 'show them who's boss' and such.
It's a rough idea so far.

The Spoiler

Quote from: Wind-up Clock;1443987I like these ideas. You could probably mesh them all into one story.

How about this.
First couple of chapters are a prologue about how homosexuality somehow created a giant electrical storm that annihilated the oceans. Without the oceans, all the freshwater fell out of the rivers into the ex-ocean. People have no water to live off of, and an intrepid scientist creates a silicon processor world which people (both gay and straight) can project themselves onto (its a simulated world basically)

As soon as the new simulated world is populated though, people start blaming the gays for the destruction of the oceans (But they had no idea that homosexuality had ocean-destroying side effects before it was much too late). The society splits into a faction of gay-blamers and one of people who treat it as an accident.

The same scientist who created the world is upset by this and goes looking for an answer. Though he no longer has control over the simulation, he finds a deactivated module of the processor, and manages to reactivate it from within. He gains control over it and programs a shutdown process to kill other simulated people.

The next few chapters describe the fight to prevent him using it and then portray its ultimate usage. It messes up completely, sending the society into hundreds of seperate threads, some consisting of only part of a person's identity.

I think I've covered all those stories, but how about I add in part of the grey-goo one to give it a satisfying ending?

Somehow, though, some of the threads manage to restabilize themselves. Terrified by the shock of being hit by the shutdown program, they sign a pact to never again fight. They're reminded of their homeworld, and ponder whether there's a way to save it. None of them can return to physical form, but they create an optical disc with complete instructions on how to restore the planet, and restore the people from the simulation.

A race of aliens comes along, after their world too was destroyed. They are first sad that they came to a desolate land, but find the disc, restore the world, and survive happily. In gratitude, they restore the surviving simulation-doods and provide them an island to live on, free of any worries.

Most of the parts aren't included in their original forms, but most of the themes are there.
I could also write a collection of short stories, each about one of the topics.
