I did register with the draft board. I would also gladly go to prison and eat free tater tots before I go and kill somebody without a damned good reason.

I agree that pepsi and nazis use the same tactics to sell. It's a useful tactic, but it's dishonest and it's not right.

If people want to get more good done I would suggest becoming more active with your town via the town hall. Show up at meetings, ask em where the money is going, and ask them what's being done about teaching our kids to be responsible citizens.

I'd also like to see more done with young people out of high school (like us) in the private sector. Programs like Big Brother/Big Sister would be swell. Also the government should create new opportunities for people to work for federal school money. I think our generation is smart enough to efficiently pick up garbage, and paint over graffiti. Local initiative is where it's at. I'm not against places spending more money on pet projects. I just believe that it needs to be micromanaged instead of put into a easily manipulative one size fits all box.

Quote from: RibsClock;1555687The problem is more the people than the system.

The system of government is the symptom of the disorder of the people, not the other way around. The solution should be on the individual level. Imposing a system on a people that won't work with it has never worked. As long as citizens are unattentive, lazy, and disgruntled they shall erect a government that caters to that.

But how do you fix the government when there are so many people who say the government needs to fix it?
lemayo lol :soups:

Quote from: RibsClock;1555739I think that the change needs to begin at the very grassroots. People need to stop relying on pundits and party leaders and make the effort to be informed about their participation in their government, start voting on people because they feel that they are most qualified not just that they most agree with their mindset and have the best name recognition.

And this needs to begin with individuals. Individuals need to start requiring a stronger basis for arguments, need to start paying attention to what their lawmakers are passing, what their congressman's job performance has been, and to the qualifications of candidates that aren't necessarily backed by a specific party.

I'm nowhere near where I want to be in this regard but frankly the government won't change until its people change on their own or until some catastrophe happens that changes them.

Well yes there is that, but also what about individual belief. When I vote for somebody I look at a few things. First where they stand on the issues via their action, second, how much experience they have, and third how much of their campaign money is grassroots v. corporate. (Or tax money for that matter)

Like when Obama ran it was really annoying that he said he wouldn't take special interest money or federal funding. At the same time he also took campaign contributions from AIG, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, JP Morgan Chase, Time Warner, Morgan Stanley and GE. Then there's the biggest corporation of them all. The federal government.

Also anyone who says the federal government is not a business has obviously never mailed a letter, gone to a DMV, or gotten a speeding ticket.

Quote from: ZombieRichardNixon;1545070It's unconstitutional, and it'll probably pass with this fucking ludacris congress. We should stop spending money, and creating artificial inflation with bullshit projects.
I agree; at no point in my future do I want to be forced to volunteer for some stupid government-required bullshit. By the way, it's spelled "ludicrous".

I've already grandfathered out of Congress's Youth. It's the young people I worry about. I guarantee you when all hell breaks loose they're gonna use this as some kind of sick joke.
