"Wave has taught us a lot, and we are proud of the team for the ways in which they have pushed the boundaries of computer science. We are excited about what they will develop next as we continue to create innovations with the potential to advance technology and the wider web."

I don't know about how some of you guys felt, but I always found Wave to be sorta useless. Still sad to see a project I'm sure developers put their heart into die out so quick.

Yeah, we did. We had a Wave dedicated to improving stuff.

I never heard of it until now what was it?

I think it was like some kind of Facebook except without uploading pictures (could be wrong about that one)

kind of like a forum, i dunno.

some bizarre cross between a forum, email, and IM. After a few minutes it lost its novelty to me too.

I actually thought it was kinda cool. They failed at describing it properly or developing means for growth. They also made it unclear what of what you posted would be public or not, making me cautious to post anything at all.

What IIDX said, though, about covers it for functionality. Yes, you could upload stuff, and it would display those things in the wave. Inline, like a forum page, but the threads were decentralized, a bit like how Facebook posts show up on everyone's inbox type whatsit. It was actually a lot like a modernized version of the mailing list format.

Even failed projects are usually worthwhile projects for the creators, because they tend to learn a lot from the process. New techniques, technology, ideas, design, etc., which they can bring to future projects. This isn't always true, but it's most likely true for something as ambitious as Google Wave. I'm sure they're sad it didn't become a big hit, but there's no guarantee that anything you make will be a hit, even with a giant such as Google behind it.
