Hello

I don't know who here saw my film Smokey the Monkey (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDnLnjlf_dc) but me and my buds are currently trying to convert it to a swf so we can submit it to Newgrounds. It was made in Flash and everything so we're not breaking the rules, it was just compiled and edited in other programs so it's ended up as a big old video file and not a tidy little swf.

We've tried converting with After Effects but it produces pretty gigantic files and I'm just wondering if any of you know a better way to do it.

On top of that we're going to need some way to get a preloader on the start, which is probably going to be a pain.

Anyone smart have any smart ideas?

There's an Import Video option in Flash, is there not?

Yeah but it will make the quality look weird.

My suggestion would be to convert it for flash output (I believe that's what it's called) in AE, then open up Super and compress that .swf file down. That should do the trick for you.

So convert it to swf from After Effects and compress with Super? or are you talking about a different format from AE?

Nope, you got it exactly right. That should do.

EDIT: Or if that doesn't work out for you, what you could do is export the movie as a png sequence and export the sound as a separate file. Then you could bring that png sequence into flash and line them up with the audio (this process is a bit tedious but effective).

Yeah that's worked out pretty well, thanks.

Is there any smart way I could jam a preloader on the start of it or is it just best to import it into Flash and do it that way?

There's a loadMovie() command in AS2, and some related ones, for dynamically importing an swf. I don't think NG lets you use it, though. I'd imagine they will have found a way to block it, anyway.
