those rumors have been around since the 70's. george lucas kept saying in interviews that he had enough material for 9 films after the first film was a runaway success, and everybody just kind of assumed he was always planning on making them.

ANH was sort of borne out of the best adventure material they could compile from a massive collection of notes and ideas created before the story treatment. they weren't expecting a success, and weren't even planning on sequels- they were actually going to shoot Apocalypse Now after ANH, if you can believe that.

there was outlined material for 9 films- three prequels, and three sequels. ESB was based loosely on those ideas, but ROTJ and the three shitty ones weren't. the big clash with the emporer wasn't even supposed to happen until episode 9- and there wasn't supposed to be a second death star.

after Raiders of the Lost Ark came out, and, no slam on Raiders, but after it came out and was a huge success, Darth Goiter got the (completely accurate) idea in his head that audiences generally don't care about a quality story- it just has to be good enough so that nobody gets distracted from the roller coaster experience. everything that's come out since Gary Kurtz split has been slapped together with that notion in mind.

I wouldn't be surprised if 7-9 went into production after the 3d rereleases just by virtue of the fact that he's going to want to keep making money.

Star Wars is over. It's done. If you honestly want to see MORE from the series after watching Episode 3, you should probably seek professional council.
