I've edited this clip I found with Windows Movie Maker:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JgRB8Fb0js
I've been trying to open it Flash 8 all day. I've never tried using video clips in my flashes before and was wondering if anyone could help. I've converted it into a fuckload of different types but flash screws them all up when I import it.

You can't edit video files in flash as far as I know. I think you can stream it within flash if you have it uploaded somewhere though.

I'm pretty sure you can import video as a movieclip or graphic symbol.

File > Import > Import video...

Select your movie through the Choose... function.
[Make sure it's relatively small. The larger the filetype, the longer it'll take to import and the slower your program will run. It could take you up to three hours to import a heavy video.]

After you've selected your movie, hit Open / Continue.

You should get a screen like this:

Do as I have done, and select "Embed video in SWF and play in timeline." Then click Continue.

Select your symbol type. I would suggest Graphic, so that you can resize and move the video, all the while keeping your ability to export to swf and mov.
Select how you'd like your audio track: Integrated will have the audio in the symbol of your choice, not sure if you would be able to remove it. Separate will allow you to remove it if you need.

Leave the two top boxes checked, since you want the timeline to expand and you'd probably like your movie on the stage.

The bottom two radio buttons leave the option for you to either edit the video before you import it, or for you to import it as it is. Choose what you'd like and the rest should work itself out. The import process may take a long time if your movie file is large.

yeah I've sorted it now the problem was that I wasn't embedding the video onto the timeline. I've wasted a large portion of my day on that.
