First thing is, how much are you willing to spend? You should probably spend at least $600 on the tower and its innards, ideally even more. But that is just my personal opinion. And what do you have that you can use already, keyboard, mouse, monitor, a case, etc.

These people will do all the work for you, just sign up for a reddit account:

This website is amazing for comparing prices. Newegg is usually good but shop around:

If you specifically want to play Battlefield 3, here are some premade builds. Prices may vary:

Be aware that everything could go perfectly, or you could end up having to do some frustrating troubleshooting.
Also, when you put the CPU in, yes the lever is supposed to be that hard to press down.

Do yourself a favor and buy an ASUS ROG laptop. That's what I did last year and it runs BF3 perfectly on high-ultra.

I got a GTX 560M but the latest models come with the 670M and that'll more than run BF3 without breaking a sweat. Seriously they're fantastic laptops and completely worth the money. I'm beyond happy with mine.

well i definitely dont want another laptop but thanks for the link ill check out some asus desktops instead

building it from the ground up is cool but it seems like too much work for my lazy ass. this will be my first real gaming computer so i dont want to get in over my head either

NintendrCkolc

yeah I thought about building myself a pc last year but opted out for a laptop because I like to sit in bed with my computer and be a lazy fuck on occasion. Plus sitting in a recliner and gaming is preferable imo.

I got my computer set up so I can either sit behind my desk and do whatever or lay in my bed and still game. In fact I'm posting this chilling on my bed using my TV as monitor.

You should have built a PC!!!

Here is a solid bundle to begin with. Get a graphics card, maybe and SSD and you should be set. it has integrated graphics which are capable enough (i used to run TF2 on max and WoW on high with it) but a better card is always better.

A general rule of thumb for getting a desktop is to either build it yourself, or if you're feeling lucky with pre-built ones, they should be built by dedicated computer stores such as Memory Express.

That said, i'll have to get an idea of what your budget looks like before i can figure out what sort of parts to recommend.

someone good to talk to about this sort of thing is Sobe. He helped me find my laptop.

it retailed for 1200 but with taxes I paid $1300. Put 700 dollars down and paid the rest off.

You could get a desktop for cheaper, but personally I prefer a laptop. Just depends on your own tastes. You can't go wrong with Asus though. If you insist on building your own desktop, make damn sure you put an ASUS motherboard in it. Trust me.

That looks good to me, also that case has nice cable management. I wish I had bought one like that for myself.

I don't know how good Samsung drives are, but they have good monitors and TVs so it should be fine. I'm just a Western Digital fan because they have never failed on me before. Also, I have that same heatsink/fan combo on my CPU, it is a pain to put on but it works nice. It's also big, but according to this video it fits in your case:
