Inspiration and what Bog's Ends

My last post on the CC forums was about a year ago, and since then I've dropped everything flash & NG related. I just now have a desire to start making something for real but I haven't got much to go on. As the thread title states, I'm looking for pointers on my one fault when it comes to animation, writing efficiently.

tl;dr finally starting to make something, can't write a story worthwhile without it taking 2 months, need help if you're willing.

That's how it is with animation as a hobby. Jokes and narratives come in flashes in inspiration, they aren't really something you should concern yourself with, they'll come soon enough even if you don't think about them. The animation itself is what you should put more effort into procuring, because that's actually hard, and usually doesn't come in flashes of inspiration. I suppose it's weird to talk about this on the CC where people don't actually seem to care that much about the quality of their animation, but my advice is that if you're having trouble coming up with writing, forget about it for now and hone your animation skills. Study and practice techniques, try to make something visually interesting, etc.

Afterwards, if you still can't come up with anything to use that skill on, try setting it to music. Sound is an easy source of inspiration and can make things fun.

Edit: Actually, hang on, I have a tip on something you want to avoid if you're looking for inspiration when it comes to comedy. You probably shouldn't make a parody of a specific video game. Something that makes fun of the conventions of a genre of games might be good, but some shitty Pokemon or MGS flash or w/e is right out (unless you are Slurpee Clock).

There are a lot of other things you probably shouldn't do, but I'm having trouble putting them to words (HO HO IT LOOKS LIKE WE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM), but that one's easy because it's so played out on Newgrounds. It's pretty much the basis of everything we hate here, so yeah, don't do that.

Edit2: Actually I have an idea. Make something Halloween related.
