I can understand that reaction. It was rather dismissive of the protesters which garnered the attention in the first place.
I have my own bias here. Rather than playing devil's advocate, it's more that I'm inherently distrustful of any new story that comes out which sounds shocking or disturbing. Unless there's strong evidence to the contrary, I'm going to assume the least interesting version of events is what's true. The fact of the matter is, modern media is not in the business of spreading news. They're in the business of getting you to watch ads. Social media is even worse, with things that sound bad being amplified simply based on how bad they sound.

Anyway, that's the perspective that most of my views on events come from.
