Quotethere are many documented cases of toads, frogs and other small animals inexplicably found encased within solid rock - alive!

QuoteIn 1865, the Hartlepool Free Press reported that excavators working on a block of magnesium limestone taken from about 25 feet underground near Hartlepool, England, discovered a cavity within the stone that contained a live toad.

It was reported in an article in The Illustrated London News (February 9, 1856, page 166) that, in 1856, workmen laboring in a tunnel for a railway line, between Saint-Dizier and Nancy, in France, were cutting through Jurassic limestone when a large creature stumbled out from inside it. It fluttered its wings, made a croaking noise and dropped dead. According to the workers, the creature had a 10-foot (3.0 m) wingspan, four legs joined by a membrane, black leathery skin, talons for feet and a toothed mouth. A local student of paleontology identified the animal as a pterodactyl. The report had the animal turn to dust, as soon as it had died.

This incredible hoax was stimulated in part by contemporary Franco-Prussian palaeontological rivalry. The Solnhofen limestone from Bavaria (in which Archaeopteryx would later be discovered) was producing many prized fossils, each of which was proudly announced by German paleontologists. The tunnel in question was through limestone of similar age to the Solnhofen Limestone, so it presented an opportunity for a shocking story by the French.
Damn, that bit of the article is fake.

Read the second article I provided and you will really go WTF. Especially the ending where the toads were actually fatter than when they were put in.

I've heard of this happening before. A long time ago I was watching discovery channel and they showed these frogs that would be frozen for months and once thawed they jump right back to normal. I guess frogs can hibernate in just about any condition.

Quote from: ScrewClockhow could this be possible?
Shutting off all unnecessary body functions I suppose. Bears sleep for months without food, anthrax spores can survive for years with no host.

I think it'd be awesome to suddenly wake up with half your body incased in concrete and the year being 2097.

What's up with the random year number? the only thing i can relate to it is that it's the same year number in which the story of One Must Fall was set in.

Roman Collar Clock

I've heard one theory that said the stone frogs were actually born inside the rock because their egg fell in it, but I have no idea if that is possible.
