Since Maltese seems to have abandoned his infuriated attacks on American Government, I've decided to take one of his excuses here, I think I'm done with his jaded views on our "theocracy", so I'll let that lie.

if he freed his own slaves, he would have lost all financial security, slaves cost money, and represent huge amounts of money for themselves. NO ONE is going to give up all of their money just because it's the right thing to do

Was not the Declaration of Independence the greatest gamble of his financial security? If he could stand against the British why could he not stand against his fellow Americans? The just should not throw down their beliefs for economic security, such a thing is cowardly. That is what creates the corrupt, those who are willing to sacrifice their beliefs for safety. The just man would stay by his beliefs and defend them to the last breath, because that is what is right.

Is it not the responsibility of the just to stand against the unjust, regardless of the effects on their life? Is not fighting for justice and equality for all more important than the one's own well being?

It's nobody's responsibility to do anything. What makes people just is choosing to do the right thing. As for security I see no connection to this. I will say that people who are willing to give up their freedoms for security deserve neither.

As for Jefferson and the slaves well it's pretty complicated. He probably should have freed the slaves, but if he did put that in his will before he died his kin probably would have claimed them anyhow and won. They had really good lawyers. From what I understand he treated his slaves much better than most folks do.
