A-1 - After School Special. Nostalgic pop-referential rap mixtape with shades of introspection.

the lyrical content here is similar to opposite of adults, but where chiddy played with vague notions of braggadocio and flirted with the saccharine and comforting notions of lasting youth, A-1 displays an unexpected tone of regret.   "As a kid, grown-ups told me don't hurry through your years
'cause when you're grown, you got insecurities and fears
and when you're grown, you got all the worries and cares
in the world, and the world seems dirty and unfair
I was unprepared
it's really kind of funny
I thought I would be rich by the time I was 20
now I'm trying to find a meal to put inside my tummy
and my childhood's the only thing they can never take from me"
no clue if this mixtape is going to get any traction (it should) but I hope at least the nerdcore scene perks up and pays attention, and not just because his flow is clean and raw and that this is how hip-hop production should sound (compare mc's router, chris, and frontalot).
let's be honest- if A-1's up there rapping about watching Clarissa Explains it All, he probably wasn't exactly stealing loaves of bread growing up, but he took a verse to expose some insecurities, and even if you don't quite pick up the lyrics, the tone comes through and you know he's not just name-dropping All That to ride a nostalgia wave- this actually means something to him, and that's something that the bubblegum "hey remember yar's revenge" nerdcore scene scarcely touches on. somewhat understandable because to even enter nerd culture you're probably pretty short on real problems, but, as I said, A-1 was probably not exactly stealing loaves of bread.

but anyway enough of that gay shit
here's him killing the power rangers, pokemon, and reading rainbow themes
