Couldn't find the computer forum so I assume we got rid of it a while go.

My computer runs slow after I boot up and then log in. The boot before login isn't slow its after I log in. My computer used to be ready to roll maybe 1:30 after the login, but now it takes more like 4 minutes.

CC Cleaner doesn't help. I'm not fragmented. I don't have a very excessive amount of startup programs. No excessive amount of dust.

I'm thinking of just backing up my files and reinstalling Windows.

Any ideas?

My thought would be startup programs but you say it ain't. Also: I don't know what I'm talking about.

Run any scan you can possibly think of.

Ad aware, Malware bytes, Kapersky, whatever. If these don't pick up anything, try checking your task manager and see if theres anything running in the background that you can do without. Delete whatever you don't use.

Na it's been getting worse slowly so it's something building up. i think it might just be a combination of a few things piling up here and there. This weekend I will totally clean the shit I don't need off my computer.

Like ya said, back your shit up, reinstall windows. If that doesn't do it.. could be a bad drive, loose cable, bad CMOS battery, Global Warming, Westboro Baptist Church, or Parkinson's Disease.

When's the last time you opened it and cleaned the dust out?

Desktop? What do you mean by "excessive"?

Ok, how big / full is your hard drive?

when your hard drive gets full it takes longer to boot. Nothing you can do unless you want to move everything to a exterior hard drive. Start putting your computer to sleep instead of shutting it down, it doesn't waste any more power.

ITT: I haven't cleaned my registry settings in a long time.

I thought CCleaner did this.

Cleaning your register files and un-erroring them are completely different.

The programs are designed to look for ways to optimize them by checking points and data inclusions. If they don't exsist they clear the entry making a null pointer. Imagine I said take these buckets full of water. 3 of them have bleach in them. Drink them each, if it has bleach dump it out and come back. You bring back the buckets and the buckets of water.. but what use is that empty ass bucket.

What you need to do is open your registry file by hand, regedit.exe back that shit up, then go through and find programs you got rid of. Things like STEAM for example will leave deposit files and HKEYS after you uninstall it, that way the program knows if you ever try to pirate something it can say.. I CALL BULLSHIT YOU NEVER HAD IT BEFORE.. but if you dont have steam what purpose does the 3.8megs of string data being thrown around do.

Alright I'll try doing this. I have installed/uninstalled so many fucking things from these drives it's probably chick full of shit.
