Man, you fucking love controversial topics.
The death penalty is wrong

AstronautClock

I think a life in prison would be a more effective punishment

PirateClock

Two words: Forced labour.

Why kill them when you can put them to work?

My opinion is the death penalty should be allowed in two situations:

1.) If it is 100% concrete knowledge that the person did the heinous act that they are being executed for.

2.) If a lifer (or long-termer) wants to end their life.

Otherwise, the system is way to flawed to allow otherwise, in my opinion.

Fuck yes.

Ted Bundy should've been paving our roads and/or forced to sort paperclips by size, not electrocuted.

Or send them to war. Let them kill for America.

I honestly don't know how to respond to this.

I imagine that a life sentence of berating yourself would be less preferable to death, to be honest.  But i can see why people don't like the idea of taking one's life even if they did the most serious crimes.

Losperman

It has been shown to be ineffective as a deterrent, and it is actually more expensive to legally put someone to death (due to trials, appeals, etc.) than it is to imprison them for life. Since there is nothing positive that comes from it, I see no reason for it. Most civilized countries have realized this and done away with it, and the US will likely do the same in the not-too-distant future.

Make it so if you committed a worse crime, you have to work even harder.

I used to think the death penalty was a good idea. Since 1973 there's been 129 people people who have been falsely accused. Most of them are black. The majority of non-violent drug offenders are also black. Until the justice system fixes it's police system to go after people equally then I don't trust it. Especially when a multimillionaire can buy his way out of a trial, or expatriate himself to avoid punishment. The justice system currently isn't equal, and until it has laws that make it equal I will be against the death penalty. I do believe however that forced restitution should be paid in extreme cases where the person is 110% known to be guilty. That means forced work to pay the family some means of financial compensation over the years doing some kind of labor.

I don't care what anyone thinks about forced work. If you're not working or being active then you're becoming mentally ill. Mental illness is a very expensive thing to treat in the long run, and it also puts the prison guards in danger. This is only one of a few gripes I have with the current system.
