You're really gonna want to see this:

[u2]DGIgXeGC6Dg[/u2]

Can you imagine if these all were a part of DLC???? It's as though they took a checklist of everything I wanted in Skyrim and made it. If not I hope at least some mods inspired by these come out. God damn.

TequilaClock

The detail of the water flow is really interesting.

GreyClock

Don't get me wrong, it's cool and all, but most of that stuff should have been in the release version. (You know, apart from more kill cams.) Claiming they did all that in a week only adds insult to injury. Plus who the hell still plays Skyrim.

Yeah this actually, how the fuck could all that be done in a week? If it was, how the fuck did the game take so long to do?

I just want more enemy types and more ROLEPLAYING, there isn't really any ROLEPLAYING in that ROLEPLAYINGgame unless you make it up in your head whilst you go along. I want choices, I want fucking characters asking me stuff or my wife not being a cunt.

Thor

Did they make it so they dungeons aren't so tedious and repetitive? Did they fix the combat so that it requires you to be awake to win? Did they rebalance the skills so that blacksmithing and conjuration don't win the game for you while restoration and lockpicking are useless? Did they add a quest that lets you kill the thieves guild instead of joining it?

Skyrim had some roleplaying, it's just that it was really bad so you tuned it out.

To be fair, you don't have anything. Clocks are just machines that tick.

RobClock

Dragon mounts. Fuckyes.

This.

Apparently Todd Howard was quoted as saying spears weren't possible on the engine or some shit like that and then wuddya know, SPEARS.

Thor

Todd Howard is a liar. He's been promising radiant AI since Oblivion and it's still just a pipe dream.

He also claims that ladders aren't possible in gamebryo (not true),  that they were going to use a new engine for skyrim (also not true), that you could climb any mountain in skyrim (not true unless you exploit a collision bug), and that the player could effect city economies. God this guy is so full of shit.

more enemy types.
agreed I guess more enemies is always cool
roleplaying
how is it not roleplaying. you play as a specific race in a different world on a quest. what the fuck is roleplaying according to you
choices
you have choices to do some quests that prevents you from doing other quests. there is enough choice tbh, even character builds. you can be very specific with that. also you could just be an evil son of a bitch and kill everyone, hows that for choices

believe it or not, adding little things like this is a lot easier when you have an entire working game.

I mean seriously these guys did all the art assets, all the dungeons, all the game structure, reworking their engine, etc. this shit takes time.

Plus there are a lot more politics that go into a game than you might think. Hopefully now the Besthesda publishing unit will see how valuable this kind of developer freedom is.

That would make a huge number of games roleplaying games. You do play a role in those games, so to speak, but what distinguishes a roleplaying game specifically is character building. You don't just assume a role, you also determine it in a way beyond playstyle. In Skyrim you make a lot of choices about your character, so it is a roleplaying game, but not just because you assume a role.

I'm not saying much about Skyrim except "yeah it's an RPG", I just wanted to make that distinction about RPGs.

He's still nowhere near the levels of Peter Molyneux on the bullshitometer.

Keep in mind people at least Bethesda designs their game to support extensive modding. There are plenty of developers who do not do the same. Mod support is part of Bethesda's PC appeal, keep that in mind when bashing them because some modders made mods that improve the game.

That said, I agree with some things in this thread about things that could have been done to improve it from the start.

Thor

I don't see how the amazing mod support bethesda offers makes it okay that they lie constantly

Nah I'm not saying that mod support excuses lying, but mod support does improve their games beyond whatever design choices they deliberately make because of how active the Bethesda modding community is. I wasn't commenting on the lying part besides stating that Peter Molyneux is easily the biggest liar of a developer.

i don't see how you believing the same bullshit every video game director says before their next big game comes out makes it any less your fault for being gullible.

NintendrCkolc

I still think Witcher 2 was the best RPG of last year.

If you guys want true roleplaying, fucking get it.

Naw man, the best RPG of 2011 was Hyperdimension Neptunia

That's as stupid as saying Soul Calibur is a RPG because you get to create your own character:

Creating a character isn't ROLEPLAYING unless there are different roles to play, reactions to how I act or effect the world, asking the same questions regardless of what race/class/evil-good I am to everyone is not roleplaying... that's just a very linear path with a shitload of small branches, but it all takes me to the same place.

Yes yes I know there are "choices" in the main quest but in the end the world ends up the same, not much changes and nobody gives a shit in towns anyway.

I roleplay alot but I do it in my head, I'm a romantic vampire faggot who only drinks the blood of nobles and leave flowers on their bed, I'm a psychopath mage only capable of loving myself and my own constructs so I roleplay that Venassa is a golem (dwarf suit) of my construct and that I married her. I also collect heads.
The point is there is nowere where I can play these things out, there is never a chance for my character to explain WHY I am acting in a certain way which is why the Assassin Guild is a bullshit travesty compared to the last game: Why would I want to assassinate the Emperor after 4 assassinations? The first thing they tell me is that to each his own and that the Dark Brotherhood is a sinking ship... woop-dee-doo let me just kill some nonames and then BAMWHAM LETS KILL THE EMPEROR. Fuck sake I'm even a Imperial General, there is no fucking argumentation or reasoning from my character to why I would ever want to do this: I don't like the leader, I have no emotional bond to the guild, etc etc.

That is not roleplaying, that is bad writing, that is forcing me to act out a story without a development of character or reasoning. Exactly why Dragon Age 2 is a shitty game:

If there are Two choices
A
B
There should be 4 options (of sort)
Do A
Do B
Do Both
Do Neither
I hardly EVER EVER get this choice in Skyrim, it is always "Yes" or "No". That is not roleplaying.
It is still an amazing game and I've played it a shitton, but I wanted more roleplaying. Christ I almost cried when one of the characters in Baldurs Gate II actually turned around and asked me "So... Tell me about yourself, how are you feeling?"

buttplug

roleplaying video games don't exist. They are all either dungeon crawlers, levelup games, adventure games, "interactive" stories, or some combination.

No, picking A,B, or C from a menu is not roleplaying.

Roleplaying only occurs when you have a pen, paper, and other people.
