I've never done any overclocking before but I heard this program makes it simple. Any tips to keep my hardware safe?

If I'm testing my GPU with furmark, it is safe to let it get high enough that it crashes, or can this damage my card? I haven't let it get past 75C yet because i'm kinda paranoid.

So basically I started out cleaning my case to get the temps down. And then I decided to fix my horrendous cable managment, it only has 2 hol,es for running cables and they are right next to each other in really bad spots. The problem is this case fucking sucks for cable managment, and the mobo has the power connectors in really fucking bad spots. I'm considering maybe even getting a new mobo since this one just kind of pisses me off with how so many things are placed on it. I'll probably have to drill some holes in my case too...

I overclock my GPU regularly to squeeze out a few more FPS when playing games like BF3 or Witcher 2. My CPU overclocks itself. Turbo boost technology for ya.

anyway, I also use MSI afterburner. I've never seen my GPU's temp go over 60C but i'm using a laptop practically designed for overclocking. As long as you don't let your shit go over 75C you should be fine. I've even seen some people go up to 90c no problem but I wouldn't risk it if you don't know what you're doing.

Download MSI Kombuster, set MSI afterburner to your desired settings and run Kombuster a few times. When you maximize your FPS score in the Kombuster, save your settings and use it for games. Run the test a few times to make sure your temp remains stable.

One last thing, I've tried pushing my card multiple times with afterburner and have experienced a few crashes whilst running Kombuster. No permanent damage was suffered but I didn't make a habit of pushing it multiple times. You gotta find your cards sweet spot. Start off slow and work your way up. When your FPS starts dropping you're pushing it too hard, lower it back down immediately.

Also, if you update your drivers regularly, you may have to lower your initial afterburner settings (or raise them depending.) Drivers make a difference.

Good luck and be careful!

Thanks for the tips, I was getting it up to 75 on Kombustor and 88 on extreme burn in tests.

I've decided to do some casemods though, so I'll have to either get a dremel tool or a holesaw for a drill. Next time I get a case I'm definitely making cable management a priority.

I use EVGA Percision and NVIDIA System tools to OC my graphics cards. MSI Afterburner is good also, just be safe and run a stressful bench like Futuremark 11 or Furmark for a while. CPU OCing is a bit more tedious and risky but I got my 2600k to 4.6 stable on liquid (my gpus are at 950 on liquid). Make sure not to overvoltage it and give it just tiny ammounts more of voltage if you do have to increase it. I reccomend using the BIOS to OC CPU it's a old school way to do it and works quite well. MSI Afterburner is good for GPUs, but I prefer the BIOS on CPU overclocking. Have fun!
