Even reasonably intelligent people can come to believe a load of horse shit. Here's the thing, reggae music is awesome. I don't care if you believe that or not, it is. Smoke a shitload of pot, listen to some crazy dread shit, and you can get carried off. If you're really into weed, and Snoop is really into weed, and especially if you feel marginalized or have spiritual leanings, the kind of shit Rastafarians talk about in their music can have a powerful draw. Rastafarianism is kind of dumb because it's a religion and all religions are kind of dumb, but it's got some pretty damn cool aspects, especially if you're black. First of all, it deals with much more recent figures and events than most religions. It's also a revolutionary religion. It openly and actively rejects the dominant power structures that exist today and predicts their end. There's no question what Babylon refers to, you're not interpreting some 2000 year old document to apply it to situations the people who created it had no idea about. There's a lot of appeal there, not to mention all the heady weed smoke.
 
Anyway, Snoop was already a member of the Nation of Islam, and I'd argue that those guys are crazier on average than Rastas, not to mention racist as shit. At least it's not Scientology.
 
I hope he gets back to rapping eventually, but I'll be interested to see what he does with reggae. La La La was an okay track.
